Chapter 7

ERIC . "I cannot believe that after waiting for years, you got a human female as your mate. Does the goddess really like you or what?" I teased and he glared at me with those eyes that only spelt anger and rage. He had been so upset about the issue ever since we got back from the hospital. If he was feeling this way, I wonder what his mate would be going through at the moment. I mean he had outrightly rejected her in the hospital despite her condition. The poor girl would be heartbroken and he felt really bad for her at that moment. "Why would the goddess give me a weak and puny woman as my mate?" He asked feeling exasperated. I didn't know what to say to him so I just watched him rant while I listened and supported where necessary. "Did you see her?" His brows knitted together in a tight frown causing him to scoff. "I feel so betrayed right now" He continued while I looked on "I waited so long Eric. I waited hoping to get someone better and then when the opportunity presents itself, I get a human mate for no reason at all." I took steady steps towards him and placed my hands on his in comfort "If you're acting like this then imagine what she would be going through right now Ivan. I'm sure she's more hurt than you are" "You think I care?" He brushed my hands off that part if his shoulder where my hand was holding. "I don't care if she's burning in a hot volcano at the moment. She deserves everything and more." "You make it seem as if it's her fault." I countered feeling bitter already "I'm pretty sure she didn't want this in the first place. Do you think she wanted to be tangled with an Alpha? Her life just turned around for the better including yours so you should find a way to accept it rather than throwing tantrums like a three year old who's angry about not having his first shift" "Arrrgghhhh" He growled. His voice tore through the entire room In a high pitch scream. I'm running out of patience to tame this big guy and it's getting very annoying now. "Over my dead body Eric. I've rejected her and so I want absolutely nothing to do with her" "But you brought her here. What would she do now? The poor girl would be raving out her mind at this moment" I said the last part to myself. "Send her back to wherever she came from. I do not need her at all." "Really?" I asked, giving him a cynical look "Wow, I can't believe that you would just toss her away simply because you just rejected her. Where's your conscience Ivan?" "I don't have one okay?" He shouted back at me "and I don't care what you think about me but I'm not doing this anymore. Please just send her away cause I don't want to see her. I don't want to have anything to do with her" "Alright then. I just want you to know that whether you sent her away or not, the attraction between the two of you would not go and your wolf would always feel longing. You're the Alpha King after all so you should know better, I'll be leaving now." I announced and took my leave out of his mansion. I hope that he doesn't regret his decision. He should know better than anyone that when you reject your mate without performing the mating ritual, without finding a second chance mate, you would end up becoming a rogue. He's supposed to understand better. I got into my car and started the ignition, after pulling out of his mansion, I drove straight to my mine. I was already feeling exhausted when I arrived and I wanted nothing more than to have my lunch and probably a good rest before visiting the club later at night for some hot ladies. Stepping into the apartment, I heard sounds coming from the kitchen. I was about to call out to Martha when my eyes locked onto the woman who was seated on the couch. "Who are you?" The words rushed out of my mouth before I could stop them. I could tell that she was nervous because I could smell the fear emanating from her but other than that, I could also smell Ivan's scent on her. Why was she carrying his scent? Who is she? I scanned her from head to toe. Her hair was scattered across her face and she wasn't dressed in the most decent of clothes ever. She looked pale and her eyes were a bit swollen which indicated that she had been crying. The Bastard Ivan. "It's either you speak or I make you" it threatened her and she immediately fell to her knees. Her faced bowed down towards the ground. "My name is Adelaide Jackson, a slave that needs your help my lord" Long silence descended in the living room after her statement. I was still processing how she had managed to get into my house without my permission and who had let her in. "Sit down" I said instead. She rose up quickly and took the couch next to her. Her hands were trembling as she struggled to remain calm but I could tell that she was failing miserably at it. Martha joined us later with a tray containing foods and drinks which she placed on the table before leaving the room to give us privacy. "I'm waiting." I urged and she coughed slightly before summoning up the courage to look at me. "I came from the hospital" she began "The doctor told me that he wouldn't be able to direct me to my pack and he insisted that you would help me. That's why I'm here." "But I don't know you though so how can I help you?" She gulped "You came to the hospital with the big scary man that said I was his mate." By the goddess! I thought I smelt something weird when I perceived the scent of Ivan on her when I had walked in. She was the woman from the hospital. Ivan's mate. Heavens! Ivan's mate came to my house to see me. As much as it was exciting, it was also frightening because he had told me blatantly that he wanted nothing to do with her. "You're the human female aren't you?" I inquired feigning a surprised look. "Yes" she replied slowly. "I'm sorry for coming to your house unannounced but I'm desperate. It feels like I'm loosing my mind and I don't know what to do next." "What's wrong?" I asked calmly. "Is it true?" She asked facing me. I knew what she was talking about but still I pretended not to. "What is?" "Is it true that the big scary man is my mate or whatever it's called?" That bloody Ivan. Why would he just reject her and leave me to shoulder all the burden. "Yes he is." She nodded once "What does it mean?" "The meaning is different for you humans though. You guys call it being married as husband and wife but to us, it is a union of two souls for a lifetime. A mating bond is formed by the goddess and it lasts for a lifetime. Usually when you are marked by your mate, you would never separate from each other and can never get divorced because the love between the both of you only deepens as the years go by but the only thing strong enough to severe that bond is being rejected or if one of you winds up dead." She listened to me with rapt attention. Her eyes unwavering. She was quite a beauty to behold. Despite the rags she had on, she still looked undeniably pretty. If she wasn't Ivan's mate, I would've made my move but the werewolves unspoken rule was 'To not touch another wolf's woman'. It was considered a sacrilege and taboo of the highest order. "I guess our bond has been severed then because he rejected me right?" Her voice held a note that I couldn't quite comprehend. There was a mixture of sadness and also relief. I breathed out "It would appear so." She nodded "That's good then. He's a very powerful man so there's nothing I would ever be able to do for him. He needs a strong woman who is as strong as he is. I'm nothing but a common weak maid and so there's nothing I could do for him even if I wanted to." She wiped the tears on her face aggressively "I need your help my lord, I want to go back to my pack." She informed me painstakingly "The doctor at the hospital told me that I cannot leave of I didn't come to see you directly. He said that you're the only one to help me." "Would you be able to leave without–" "Yes" she replied sharply "I want to leave so please helped me." She clasped her hands together as she pleaded with me profusely. "Alright then" I said at last "I will take you home after you've eaten your meal. Your stomach has been grumblings for a long time now." "Oh" she flushed shyly. She looked so innocent that it almost made me laugh. "Finish up and get some rest. We leave tomorrow morning. Mariam would show you to the guest room." "Thank you so much my lord." She bowed her head in appreciation. I nodded at her before standing up to exit the room.
