Chapter 31

Ella's POV

We have been hiding here for weeks, and our food supply was already gone, I wanted to go out, I wanted to see if the creature was still at large, you know take my chances before the hungry kills us here but Alex refused, she said the food was of no relevance to us now that our lives were

Hmm as if living meant anything right now to either of us, we did even know if we were going to see the next sunlight, our lives were just bent on natural probability

In my self-doubt and mystery, Alex was my backbone, she didn't allow me to give up even though I desperately wanted to, because this wasn't how to live, we were constantly afraid of our lives daily, unsure if we would see another day.

And thinking about it we were better off in the belly of that beast, just allowing the island to win this battle so that all this misery would finally end, but Alex was persistent, she was strong, and surprisingly never giving up hope like I was doing

''You have to be strong Ella,'' Alex said to me

''But how can I be strong, 6 of us came here now we are only two,'' I let out with a gloomy expression on my face

I can't be what I am not, Alex, I am not strong like you are, I am not brave or ready to face any challenge that meant presenting itself right now... I am not you Alex,'' I let out as tears streamed down my eyes

''Alex looked at me for a while, with silence taken over our little hiding place

''You think I am strong? Do you think I am brave? Well, news flash I am not... All this is an act... You that saying fake it until you make, Yeah that is me right... I am just playing dress-up because I know acting scared and weak would not do me any favours

I have to act strong, I have to act brave because only then would I get through this s**t show of an island,'' Alex said and understood her completely

She was pressing through a lot on her own, I thought she didn't feel but she was just handling the chaos of this island in her own way

''I don't want to be strong Ella, I have to be strong and so do you, we can't allow this island to defeat us anymore, it had taken 4 of us, and we won't allow it to take any more from us,'' Alex said as she pulled me to her give me a hug

'' We would get through this, remember the only thing left for us to do now is to survive,'' Alex whispered into my ear

We wallowed in our newfound hope, every though there was absolutely no reason for us to do so as we were still so hungry, we seat still just waiting for a miracle to come

Soon we notice bright lights and several shadows approaching us, and we automatically thought that our miracle was finally here

''Another life, apart from us here on this island? maybe it is a rescue team sent out to look us,'' I said to myself

''Finally true hope, we would be saved and I would finally get to see Arthur again, I have so much to tell him,'' I smiled to myself

Maybe Alex saw the joy and the little hope on my face because whispered towards me

''Let's not get ahead of ourselves Ella, this might be another game made up by the island to get us,'' Alex let out and she was right, I shouldn't have thought to expect any good thing from this god-forsaking place. Because as the light draws near, we began to hear gunshots

''Go low,'' Alex screamed as she laid flat on the floor and I followed suit

I was shivering as if I was just been dripped into icy cold bucket water, I didn't understand what was going on now, this sounded like a real gunshot going off in the air. But what I couldn't explain was why they were shooting at us instead of saving us

I wanted to get up to have a better look at our assailant, but Alex stopped me immediately

''Are you mad, what are you trying to do, kill yourself,'' she whispered

''I need to see who is shooting at us,'' I whispered back

''Yeah then kill yourself in the process,'' she said with anger in her eyes

''We stay low until they stop shooting,'' She ordered and I nodded in agreement

We stayed like that for a moment, until the crooked door to the shed was busted opened by unknown people

We didn't know who or what they are, because their face's we covered in masks

''Who are you? I asked softly as I looked up at them from the floor, but they didn't respond they just kept on looking down at us

''Ella this is creepy,'' Alex whispered by my side

''Are you here to help us, we have been here for weeks,'' I asked as I hoped that maybe they could actually be of help

But still, no response from them

''Okay that's it, if you are not here to help us, then tell me why are you here,'' Alex screamed this time, and all of a sudden, she was slapped hardly by one of the people in a mask which instantly made her fall to the floor

''Ella these people are not here to help us, we need to find a way out of here,'' Alex whispered to me and I nodded

We decided to make a run for it, but unfortunately, we were shot down by what seemed to be a tranquillizer dart and soon all we could see was darkness

I didn't know how long I was out for but I woke up with a severe headache and blurry vision

''Goodness what happen,'' I said out loud as I tried to clear my vision

Looking around what I saw made my heart beat even first in uncertainty and my body quiver in fear

I was in a cage and I did know why or how I got here, the last thing I remember was seeing those masked people

Alex was also not here with me, and instantly feared the worst

''Alex...'' I screamed her name, just hoping that she answers me but still I couldn't hear her voice

''No this can't be happening, she has to be somewhere around here,'' I said to myself,

''Alex..'' I decided to shout her name again, and luckily for me, she answered this time

''Ella is that you,'' she said in a sleep tone

''Yes it is me, thank goodness you are alive," I let out

''Where are we? What happened? why are we in a cage,'' Alex asked me so many questions, that I didn't even know where to start

''Alex I am as confused as you are, I really don't know what is happening,'' I let out

Alex was quiet for a while until she said

''Ella... I think we have just found ourselves in another messy storm''
