Chapter 35

Ella's POV

“Come with me if you want to live," the stranger said again

Looking at him closely, he was wearing worn-out clothes, and his chestnut brown hair and overgrown beards looks so rough and dirty as if it has been washed or cut in so many years

I was inclined to ask him who he was but he immediately, yelled at me telling me that there was time for questions

“if you want to live, don't ask me necessary questions, just come with me," he let out and I nodded

It was not like I had any choice, I didn't know this man but right now he was my best bet to escape those people chasing us, so I nodded and urged him to help with Alex who was already so weak to walk

Swiftly the man carried Alex as if she weighed next to nothing, and soon we were on our way

We passed through a path, I didn't even know existed here on the island, and just like that it felt like we had vanished because we lost those masked men in no time

we made our way through the path, and it led us to a water cave, we continued walking until we moved deep into it, so deep that I could hear anything apart from us breathing

We soon stopped, when we got to an open space, looking around it was a well-structured living space

“Have you been living here," I asked confused and he nodded as he carefully, put Alex down on one of the beds

“Yes this has been my home, I have been living here for 7 years now," he answered and I was shocked

“7 years, how is that even possible," I asked softly as I looked at the mid-aged man in surprise

“I was part of the 1st hunt here 7 years ago," the man said as he offered me some water

“My name is Damien," he said softly and I nodded

“I am Ella and that is Alex," I said and we both gave him a friendly nodded

“ Can you please go back to what you said about coming here 7 years ago, for the Hunt," Alex said faintly as she looked up at Damien

“Yes like I said I came here 7 years ago, for a contest called the Hunt

my best friend Arthur told, me it was for a reality show and as an actor, I grabbed the opportunity not knowing it was my death sentence

we were put up in a house by the water, it was so beautiful and we were on top of the moon for just one night, but it didn't waste time for the c*****e to start happening

slowly but surely, the creatures devoured 5 of us and I was the only one who survived, the WIC company captured me in other to complete the cycle of 6, but I escape that as well

And ever since, I have been in hiding from the WIC company, just looking for a way out of here ." Damien said

“Wait did you just say Arthur," I asked as I instantly felt a pang in my chest

“Yes Arthur is in charge of recruitment, for the WIC company

He gets the chosen subjects to the island after they had been selected by the head of WIC company," Damien said

“So he had always been doing this, bringing people to their death," I asked and Damien nodded

Arthur is one of the front runners, of the Hunt program her a Marajó island

so when I saw the helicopter land this year, I knew it was time

Yearly, a helicopter lands on this island around this time, carrying a new set of six subjects, but every year none of them survive, but this year was different

So when I noticed, you two were the only ones left out of 6 of friends, I knew I had to find you

I was about getting to you when the WIC company captured you, but I continued to follow your trail and that was when I saw you both had escaped, so I can help," he said

“Why..." I asked and the Damien smiled

“Maybe for company, are the first group that has a survivor in years, I had to see you for myself," Damien chuckled

“Thank you, for saving us," Alex said softly as I looked at her questioning gaze

“Alex we don't know this man, how can we trust him," I said and Alex rolled her eyes

“Ella right I don't give damn, whether he is out to kill us or not, I'm tired of running and I'm sure you are too," Alex let out

“But..." I tried to protest but Damien cut me off immediately

“Ella don't overthink this listen to you friend," he smiled as he went over to Alex, trying to check on her wound

Alex wimped in pain as he removed the cloth that was tried to her abdomen

Damien was taken aback by the state of the injury, but he tried not to say it that much

“It's nothing, you would be fine," he said to Alex but I knew he was lying

He dressed the wound and gave her something to drink

Within seconds, Alex fell asleep

“Now Alex asleep, would you tell me what lie brought you here to this island," Damien asked me as he took his seat beside me

“His question caused chaos, in my heart as I thought of all of Arthur lies and deceit

“No Damien I don't want to talk about it," I said in a low tone

“Come on, I told you mine and it is only fair, you tell me yours," Damien urged me to speak

“ I was here with 5 of my friends for my bridal shower," I said softly and the look on Damien face changed immediately

“ if you don't mind me asking, who was the lucky guy, that you were supposed to marry," Damien asked

”Lucky or unfortunate," I murmured to myself

“Well if you must know I was supposed to be marrying that good for nothing Arthur," I said as I tried to hold back my tears

“ Arthur... as in Arthur Logan," Damien asked and I nodded my head

“Damn, I never thought Arthur would go that low just for the WIC company...this is just messed up," Damien said as he shook his head

“Don't worry we would all get through this, I promise," Damien said softly towards me and I chuckled in disbelief because this wasn't the first time I was hearing that tale.
