Kai's POV
It pleased me how fast that young man from alpha Ross's pack could get the information I needed from the prisoner.
At least we know what their primary goal was when they entered my territory.
But my heart surged when Wilona's mind sailed within the lines of her life being in danger and no matter how hard I tried to avoid the issue, she asked about it.
'She reminds me of a newly turned young man who didn't give up when the same thing happened to him.' Nova's speaking broke me out of my thoughts.
'It was different because my father trained me two years before I got you,' I replied, watching Amedeo's fancy jacket sway with every step he took, pacing my office.
'Yeah, being a late bloomer suck,' he said, licking his paw.
"Who would want to harm Wilona?" Luca asked, interrupting my talk with Nova.
Amedeo stopped and glared at him with his head tilted to the side. His upper lip curled into a scowl.
Konrad recommended I should place a permanent guard with Wilona all the time. Even though it has been a week trying to figure out the master behind those filthy wolves that hurt my daughter.
"I suspect Filippo, but doubtful, because he's the obvious one among all of them. And he called me on the day of the incident, assuming that Wilona passed away." I sighed, leaning on the table with my elbows.
"Then you have every right to summon his àss here." Amedeo snarled while sitting down.
"Do I always have to tell you to reflect before reacting?... Look, I know it was hard for you to adjust to being my gamma, but irrationality can only lead us further into chaos. We need to avoid making simple mistakes, especially accusing an alpha openly without enough proof." I spoke, seeing his jaws tense.
"I didn't have a choice in that matter because my sister's wellbeing comes first. I am just worried that you are being too soft, as my father was. Our pack got destroyed because of him repeatedly choosing to be careful, even when danger faced him."
"Since it's the howling celebration tomorrow at midnight. I think you should have a brief meeting with all the alphas before the event starts. Have them earlier to approach the matter and see how they react to it." Luca raised his brows.
I pressed my eyes with my fingers as we went silent for a moment, thinking about what Luca said. I agreed with him and sent emails to all the six alphas, summoning them for the meeting.
"Amedeo, please make sure the scouts follow the plan. Luca, I need three more guards with Wilona the entire night." I said, dismissing them as soon as she got into my office.
Her feet scuff the tiled floor.
"Hi, dad." She greeted him, thanking Adam for helping her sit.
She frowned uncomfortably, fixing her purple shoulder sling.
"How was the shopping with your mom?" I asked as I join her on the sofa.
She heaved a sigh. "It was okay, though I could not find the dress easy enough for me to wear tomorrow and at the coronation. And it's only three days away... Enough about me. Do you need help with anything? I feel useless with this thing hanging on my shoulder and having to deal with Adam treating me like an egg."
I chuckled, seeing him shake his head in amusement.
"It makes me happy knowing he is there with you always."
"Even though I feel as if you are hiding something from me?"
'She will figure it out, eventually,' Nova chimed in.
"Dad, I know you are trying to protect me. But don't you think that, by not telling me, might be a risk on its own." She said.
'I spoke too soon,' Nova barked, feeling his pride for her.
I sighed, staring at her because I knew I had to tell her the truth. "Okay," I said. "When we were on the field, Nova noticed the wolves changing direction towards you. We were late since you almost lost your arm. Then, when you were in surgery, I received a call from Alpha Filippo assuming you were dead." I heaved a sigh, leaning my back on the sofa. "Everything pointed to you when Fetu, the future beta from the Cyclone Moon pack, got information from the wolf we caught. And Konrad, who is the future alpha from the same pack, suggested I place a guard with you until we find the person responsible for this madness."
"So… a total stranger advised you to get me guarded?" She asked in awe, and I nodded.
She thinned her almond eyes, the same way as her mother does when she is thinking. "Tomorrow night is the full moon. The day we celebrate our wolves with our region except that I won't be shifting. Don't you think the meeting might affect the spirit of everyone?" Her dark brown eyes shone with worry.
"What do you suggest?" She will rule soon and not involving her in this was a mistake I almost did.
"First, those wolves were not in their right state of mind when they realised I was there. Have you asked your friend Emma for help?" She asked.
"No, I didn't want to involve her. Ethaweth is not a friendly province and they might crucify her if they find out she is secretly helping our pack."
"Then get someone from Aberith." She sighed restlessly.
"Can we not dwell on it now? I will deal with it, risking no one's life. Thank you for your opinion."
I stood up from the couch and carried her out of my office to her bedroom. "I can walk, you know dad." She protested.
"Believe me, it took me this long to realise that I wasn't taking my daddy's role seriously," I said, kissing her forehead.
She snuggled into my chest with a yawn. I chuckled, settling her on the bed.
"Netta will bring you food and water for your medication," I added while going to the door.
"Oh, mom didn't tell you? She left yesterday for Cyclone Moon pack. Following her mate."
This was unexpected, but I hope she is alright. "O... kay. I will send Endre." I scratched the back of my neck, then left.
'Luca, change of plans. We will have the meeting after breakfast before everyone leaves.' I mind-linked him.

The following day, in the afternoon, wearing my crispy suit with my mate dressed up in her long, flowing dress matching my suit.
We stood at the entrance, welcoming the guests. It stunned me to see the Dull Moon pack arrive.
"Alpha Filippo, Luna Adella. It's surprising to see you earlier than usual." I eyed their royal blue velvety matching outfit and Filippo's grey hair neatly jelled back.
"My Luna is fond of your classy boutiques in town." He grinned, squeezing her tight to his body.
"You have exquisite material in your town." She giggled like a schoolgirl.
I told the housekeeper to show them to their room while accepting other guests.
"He is hiding something," Annunziata whispered in my ear.
"I already told Luca to observe him, but I am not taking any chances with the rest. It could be any of them who was behind the attack." I muttered, holding her waist and kissing her.
'Nah, he is just being a show-off,' Nova grumbled.
"I hope everything goes as planned without issues." She whispered, letting go of my hand.
All the expected guests arrived, and I led them into the clearing behind our house. I stood on the small makeshift stage in front of everyone.
Thanking them for taking their valuable time and resources to reach my pack. "We gathered here tonight as we celebrate life, especially the wise spirits that live in each one of us, our wolves. It's 9:30 pm. I need all the alphas to command their pack to shift as they follow me, along with everyone behind them. Those who are old, pregnant and injured will remain in the hall. When the moon takes place at its highest peak, you will leave the hall and kneel facing the sky until the howling quiets down." I told them, shifting into my huge grey wolf, followed by my Luna in her charcoal wolf.
We led the massive pack of wolves to the forest, and I hailed them for hunting. The moon drew right in the middle of the sky, gracing us with its light, shimmering the forest. I let out a howl that vibrated the night sky with a melodic song spread through nature, sung by all the wolves.
The forest became silent as we conclude the night, but there was a sharp scream that reverberated in the air.
'Wilona.' Nova roared viciously and darted to where the sound came from.
Annunziata's charcoal wolf, Nikita, rushed past me with a bark.
'Annunzi-'
'No Kai, she is my pup too.' She retorted with a growl, cutting me off.
'Alpha, unscented wolves are attacking us in the field.' Adam's groan resonated in my mind.
Making Nova sprint next to Nikita possessively.
'Get her out of there, NOW.' I growled through the mind link.
Nova let out a howl and went as fast as a bullet shot from the gun.
Paws thumping the ground were the only sound behind me as we ran.
'Dad.' Wilona's tense voice rang in my head.
I sent a silent prayer to the Moon Goddess to keep everyone safe, especially my stubborn mate, who gave in to her instinct to protect Wilona.
