7| unlike the CEO

Elizabeth was overflown with joy when he announced that he was going to introduce her as his secretary. She thought he had never seen her as one. "My laptop is over there; pick it up and follow me with it." He ordered as he gestured at his glass desk. Nodding her head, she walked towards the desk and carefully carried the laptop with both hands. Normally, she would carry a laptop with just one hand. But whatever made the fire-breathing dragon become nice to her that day, she didn't want to make any mistakes to make that niceness spirit go away by mistakenly dropping the laptop on the floor. Turning on his heels, he started walking towards the exit, with Elizabeth hot on his heels. Everything about her annoyed him, but taking her along to his meeting was the only way he could thank her for what she did last night, hoping she wouldn’t tell anyone about what happened. They slipped inside the elevator, and Alexander clicked on the 20th floor, where the meeting was to take place. As the elevator door closed, the air inside became tight, and Elizabeth found it difficult to breathe. She was suddenly very claustrophobic, as she was in a closed space with her boss. She kept biting her cheeks to hide her nervousness until they finally reached their destination and the doors slid open. As they stepped out of the elevator, she blew out a sharp breath—she was finally able to breathe again as the wave of fresh air hit her nostrils. Just a few minutes in the elevator with her boss felt like an eternity, and she thought she was going to die. Alexander turned to the right, and she quickly trailed behind him. When they got to the boardroom, a group of fourteen people were already seated around the long wooden table inside the boardroom. The moment they sighted Alexander, they all stood up to grace his entrance. "Please sit-down." He said, as he walked like a demigod to the empty chair that was situated at the head of the table. He pulled the chair out and sat on it. "Good morning, everyone." "Good morning, sir." They all said, their voices in chorus. "Before we start, I would like to introduce you to my new secretary." He gestured at Elizabeth. "Elizabeth Felix." They all turned their gazes to Elizabeth and welcomed her warmly. She was glad that they were all nice to her from the start, unlike the CEO. Elizabeth found herself an empty seat at the extreme end of the table and settled on it. The meeting was started, and Elizabeth did nothing but stare at Alexander all through it, with her elbows pressed to the table and her chin resting on her palms, marveling at how witty he was. He really deserves to be in that seat, she thought. The meeting lasted for one hour and thirty minutes, and the team filed out of the room afterwards, leaving Alexander and Elizabeth behind. While they waited for another team to arrive for the next meeting, Alexander kept himself busy with his laptop. Elizabeth’s eyes were still glued on Alexander, thinking he wouldn’t notice since his eyes were glued to the laptop’s screen. She didn’t know why she was staring at him, but she couldn’t take her eyes off his perfectly sculptured face. "Ms. Felix," he called, raising his head to look at her. She was wrong; he had noticed her staring intently at him. "How may I help you?" A lump formed in her throat, and she swallowed as she shook her head. The research team filed inside the room, throwing greetings at Alexander as they positioned themselves on the empty seats, saving Elizabeth from what would have been the most embarrassing moment of her life. "Did we keep you waiting, sir?" One of them asked. "No. I just finished meeting with the marketing team." He directed his gaze at Elizabeth. "You must be wondering who the new person there is." He scratched his temple. "She is my new secretary; her name is Elizabeth Felix." They all welcomed her, and the meeting began afterwards. But this time around, Elizabeth tried as much as possible to avoid staring at Alexander. At exactly 12:40 p.m., Alexander closed the lid of his laptop and looked up to address the team. "If you would excuse me, I have another meeting by 1:00 pm, and there is something I would like to sort out before that time. We would continue our meeting another time. Bye for now." Without waiting for a response from them, he leapt to his feet and held his laptop in his hand as he trudged towards the exit. Elizabeth sprung up and walked closely behind him. "Let me help you with the laptop." She offered as he tried to catch up with his pace. Stopping in his tracks, he turned to look at her and handed her the laptop before he continued walking. When they got to their office, he turned to look at her as they approached his chamber. "You don't have to go inside; give me the laptop." He said, stretching his hand out for it. "I could just—" she trailed off when she raised her head up to see the terrifying look that clouded his features. Without thinking twice, she quickly handed the laptop to him. She was still enjoying the small kindnesses he was showing her, and she didn't want to mess that up by angering him. Elizabeth stood there and watched him as he trudged to his own office and entered it. When he was finally out of sight, he heaved a sigh of relief. His death glare was so intense that she thought she was going to die. Turning on her heels, she trudged to her desk and sat by it. She turned on her computer’s screen and started looking up gift ideas to give a man. After a few minutes of working on her computer, she glanced at her wristwatch and realized it was five minutes until 1:00 pm. She drew her brows together, wondering what he was still doing inside his office when he had a meeting to attend by 1:00 p.m. Blowing out a sharp breath, she decided to go and remind him about his meeting. Leaping to her feet, she trudged to his office and knocked on the door. "Come in," he said, granting her permission to enter. Placing her hand on the door knob, she pushed the door open and slipped through it before closing it again. "What is it?" Alexander asked the moment she entered the office. "Your meeting is in less than five minutes, sir." She reminded him as she approached him. A ghost of a smile flashed across his lips. "At least you remember this one. Good start." She narrowed her eyes. "Sir?" "Nothing." He closed the lid of the laptop and leapt to his feet. His gaze returned to her. "Why are you still here?" "Shouldn't I be here?" She asked. A frown creased on his forehead. "Mr. Anthony, why haven't you gone to his house?" "Oh, I just finished looking up the best gift to give him." She told him. He raised a brow. "And?" "What do you think about a Swiss wristwatch?" She asked. "A Swiss wristwatch?" He raised a questioning brow. "Why did you pick that?" "I looked it up, and I found that it's the best gift to give a business associate." She replied quickly. "Good." He said, as he walked around the desk and walked past her. "Meet Mr. Daniel for the company’s card." Pulling the door open, he walked out of his office with Elizabeth trailing behind him. "Ms. Felix, why are you following me?" He asked when he felt her presence behind him. Confusion spread across her face. "Aren’t we going to the meeting together?" Stopping in his tracks, he turned to look at her, a frown creasing on his forehead. "Ms. Felix, are you dense?" He let out a frustrated breath. "For Christ's sake, how many times do I have to tell you?" She clasped her hand behind her back. "I’m sorry, sir, I thought—" He cut her off. "Go and get Mr. Anthony’s gift and go to his house, now!" Taking one last glance at her, he turned on his heel and shook his head as he continued walking. He drew in a sharp breath to cool off the frustration crawling up his chest, hoping that woman wouldn’t make him commit murder because he really felt like strangling her.
