"If you would excuse us, we have to get going now before we get late." Alexander announced as he leapt to his feet. He stretched his hand forward and shook Andrew’s hand. "We are going to contact you when we finish preparing the contract."
"Bye, Mr. Henderson, and thank you very much." Andrew beamed as they shook hands.
Nodding his head in response, Alexander turned on his heels and started walking towards the exit.
When he didn’t hear Elizabeth’s footsteps behind him, he halted and turned back to look at her.
She was standing next to Andrew; they were both smiling from ear to ear, like lovers birds, and a strange feeling arose from inside him—the same one he felt when he saw her talking with him in the company’s restaurant. He didn’t know what it was, but he sure didn’t like how he felt.
"Ms. Felix!" He barked. "What are you still doing there?"
"I just want to congratulate him, sir." She said, her voice in a murmur.
"You would congratulate him when he comes to the company to sign the contract." He beckoned at her. "Now, let’s go."
She knew arguing with him was pointless, so she decided to just obey him.
Returning her gaze to Andrew, she stretched her hand out for a handshake. "Bye Andrew."
"Bye Elizabeth." He said, as he received the handshake, a smile curling on his lips. He darted his gaze at Alexander before flicking his gaze back to Elizabeth. "Your boss is surely possessive." He whispered to Elizabeth’s hearing.
A face-splitting grin tugged her lips apart as she turned around and strode towards Alexander.
Alexander glared at Andrew; he knew Andrew whispered something to her, but he couldn’t figure out what he said, even though he tried reading his lips.
His eyes strayed from Andrew to Elizabeth, and his expression quickly softened.
"Shall we?" She said, as smiled at him.
Turning on his heels, he started walking towards the exit, wondering why she smiled at him as if they were allies. It wasn't like they were enemies either, but they didn’t have the best CEO and secretary relationship.
But somehow, in a way that he didn’t understand, her beautiful smile melted his heart.
"What did he whisper to you?" he asked as they slipped through the door.
She knew telling him the truth was a bad idea, so she proceeded to lie to him. "Nothing; he didn’t whisper anything to me. He only said Goodnight."
"I know for sure that he definitely whispered something to you. But that aside," he turned to look at her. "When did you guys start addressing each other informally?" He asked, knitting his brows together.
A smile touched her lips. "I don’t know; we just clicked when we first met."
His face twisted into a scowl. "Clicked, as in?"
"No, no, no. That's not it." She quickly defended herself when she saw the expression on his face. She knew he had misunderstood her words.
"I don’t like the type of CEO-secretary relationship we have." He lifted his shoulders in a half-shrug. "What if I say I want us to click too?" He said, the words leaving his mouth before he could even stop them. He scratched his temple. “I think that’s what's best for the company."
He was doing it for the company, at least that's what he told himself.
Elizabeth was in awe as she gawked at him. She couldn’t believe that the man who had overworked her since she started working at the company was the one telling her those words.
"I think we didn’t start on a good note. Let's start all over again, Ms. Felix." He pressed on. "Allow me to re-introduce myself. My name is Alexander Henderson, the CEO of Henderson Group. Welcome to Henderson Group." He stretched his hand forward for a handshake. "I hope we work together as a great team."
A lump formed in her throat, and she swallowed. Whatever made him switch up so suddenly, she knew she needed to play along.
Stretching her hand forward, she took his hand. "Thank you, Mr. Henderson. I promise to work hard and try my best for this company."
That was the first time she was shaking hands with Alexander since she started working with him. She couldn’t understand how or why, but she felt a tingling sensation the moment their hands came into contact.
