Elena I waited and waited for anyone who could come in here and save me from this hell. I didn't dare to pull out my parents' picture, knowing they could barge in pretty much whenever they wanted as they already had the keys to the basement door. I laid down for a bit on the floor and cried. I felt like someone ripped my heart out. The pain I felt inside my chest was much greater than the pain I was feeling in my wrist. I didn't know whether I could ever get out of this hellish life or start my journey or I would rot in the basement forever. No one came here after they locked me in to give me food. I hadn't had dinner and it was already past one in the morning. I tried to sit up on the floor, putting my body weight on my hands as I was feeling dizzy. It was either from dehydration or I was starving. But I forgot that my wrist was badly injured by my aunt. When I tried to put my weight in my hands, a low scream of pain left my mouth which jolted me to sit up straight on the floor. I clutched my injured hand to my chest and lightly tried to rub the injured hand with the other one. As soon as I touched my left hand, I winced in pain. Tears flowed down from my eyes like a river. I took a few deep breaths to calm myself down and take a good look at my hand. The room was illuminated by the moonlight that was coming from the little window and the dim light I had in there. But still, I could see my swollen purple wrist. I held my hand against my chest and slowly backed myself towards my bed to support myself. I knew if I stood up right now I might end up hurting my hand even more. I gave up the hope that someone could come here to at least bring me some food. I craned my neck towards the little window and looked up at the sky where the moon is visible and the sky was clear. The feeling I am getting just looking at the moon is beyond explanation. Like someone is comforting me somehow. Maybe my parents are watching me from up there. I sighed and started to get up slowly so that I wouldn't hurt my hand anymore. I remembered I had some ointment in my drawer. I walked towards the chest dresser and opened one of the drawers to look for anything that I could find so that I could somehow lessen my pain. But there was nothing. Usually, I use the first aid kit from the bathroom whenever I get injured during any chores around the house. I sighed and walked away from the dresser towards my bed and decided to lay down and get some sleep. I didn't know how many hours I had slept but I was disturbed by the constant sound at the window. I looked at the clock and it read 5 in the morning. I narrowed my eyes and slowly pulled myself up on the bed. I got out of bed and walked towards the window, but unfortunately, the window was a bit higher than me. I looked around the room and saw a stool and dragged it towards the window with my other hand. I used the wall as my support and got up on the stool and opened the thick glass window and looked outside. I was surprised for a moment and didn't know how to react. There stood Liam with a little paper bag in his hand which I suppose was food for me. He waved his hand to back away from the window and I did. As soon as I backed away from the window, he threw the paper bag inside, but I don't care about the food right now, because he is my only hope left to escape from there. " Liam," I said. My voice shook a little. " I will come later, take care of yourself," he said, and was ready to walk away. " Liam, help me. Get me out of here," I said, and tears started to roll down my cheeks. He didn't say anything and smiled at me before leaving me standing by the basement window alone. I got down and, after I closed the window, moved the stool back in its place and picked up the bag from the floor. The bag was sealed so I had to tear the bag to look inside. There was an apple, a sandwich and a bottle of orange juice. I pulled them out thinking I had to eat something even if I couldn't get out of there. As soon as I pulled them out, I saw a piece of paper at the bottom of the bag. I took it out and curiously unfolded the paper and read it. "Hey Ele, I hope you don't mind me walking away like that. But I don't want anyone to see me there talking to you or else you will be in trouble again. Remember tonight is the prom and Sara will go there no matter what. I heard mom will also visit her friend tonight. Just wait for me for a few hours. I will take you out of here. And you will be able to fulfil your dreams. Please forgive me that I wasn't able to save you yesterday and I still feel terrible about that. Father said everything to me and arranged the things you needed to go there. Just hang in there a little." The letter lifted a weight from my chest and I felt relieved knowing he would come back to get me out of there. I placed the letter inside of my bag beside me and shoveled the food inside of my mouth. A few hours after that, I bid this place goodbye forever. My heart tugged thinking about my uncle, Liam and Gwen. The time went by quickly before I knew it. I restrain myself from packing my bags with my stuff because if they come here I don't want to give up on the last hope left. I was sitting on my bed when I heard the sound of the lock opening and someone turning the knob from the outside. Sara came in, followed by my aunt. Both have the same smirk on their faces and it disgusted me. How all these years I called this woman my aunt and her daughter my cousin, knowing how despicable they are. " Hello cousin," Sara said, standing a bit away from the bed. I know she is here to show off her dress and that she is going to the prom. If she knew. " Hope this little lesson teaches you. And you will never plan to escape," aunt Lina spat like venom. I hung my head down. " I think starvation took a toll on her, mom. Let's just go, I don't want to talk to this dirty, broken little b***h and waste my time here," Sara said. " Let's go then," Lina said, turning around to leave the basement. They acted like this whenever they came into the basement and it disgusted them both for some reason. Gheez it's your house, I mentally thought and smirked. " Oh and one more thing, don't try anything funny, dear, as long as we are away. You will not be able to leave. We are bringing the keys with us. See you later," Lina said and got out of the room. I rolled my eyes when I heard the clicking sound of the lock. I don't know what century they are living in. It humours me to think they thought the lock would keep me in. I know if Liam promised me something he would do it no matter what. I just have to wait and have faith. There are hundreds of thoughts going on in my mind. But they all disappeared when I heard the sound of the car and roaring. I quickly jumped down from the bed and picked up my bag from the floor. I winced in pain again as I used my left hand. But this is the least of my worries now. I moved through the room like a tornado and picked up the things I would bring with me. I went to my bed and pulled out the wooden box my uncle gave me and the letter Liam wrote to me before I went towards the hole in the wall. I pulled away the painting with my left elbow and picked up the cash and the cards that had my savings and the cards my uncle gave to me. I was about to move away from the wall towards my bed when I heard a loud bang on the door. I felt like my heart just stopped and I froze on my feet. My forehead started to sweat and my body trembled. I was so indulged in the packing that I didn't try to hear any sound coming from outside. I gulped audibly thinking that it was over, they might have come back. I jerked again when the loud bang made a crack in the door and it was kicked open. Finally, I released the breath that I was holding when I saw Liam come in through the broken door. " Elena, what happened?" He ran towards me as soon as his eyes landed on my trembling body. " Nothing," I said as I shook my head. " I thought they were coming back here," I said, they were coming, and he hugged me. I didn't feel uncomfortable like the last time he hugged me. I hugged him back this time. " Thank you for coming," I said. " Don't do that to me yet. Are you ready? Did you pack everything?" He asked and I nodded my head. " I just have to put these inside my bag," I said as I showed him the cards. " Where is your bag?" He asked and I motioned towards the bed. " You are going to bring that with you?" He asked, turning to me, and raising an eyebrow. " That is pretty much what I had," I said as I shrugged off. " Alright, we will discuss this later. Are you sure you had all the things?" He asked again and I remembered suddenly that after what had happened on my birthday Gwen knew what happened when she was not around. She gave me another pair of clips and hid them. I quickly got them from my drawer. " I am done," I said, and he didn't waste any time and pulled me out of the room by himself. I saw my uncle standing in the living room looking anxious. He sighed when he saw me with Liam. " I am gonna miss you, child," he said. " I will contact you once I am settled in there," I said, assuring him. He gave me a small smile. " Go before they return home," he said, and I hugged him tightly. Without him and Liam, this would not be possible for me. " Thank you," I said, and left him in the living room. Liam ran towards his car and opened the door of the passenger side of the car and I quickly got in. He went around and sat on the driver's side of the car. I put on the seat belt. " Ready?" He said and I nodded my head. The car hit the road. Liam tried his best to speed up. Once we are outside of the area where people can recognise us. Liam slowed down a bit and I broke down. " Elena?" Liam called softly. " I am okay. I just don't know when I can see you again and it kind of hurts like someone pricked thousands of needles in my heart. After my parents, you three are the closest family I have," I said as I sobbed. He didn't say anything as he knew I needed to let it all out. When I calmed down, he said, " Can you reach out to the back seat? There is the dinner I bought for you," he said. I did as I was told because I was too hungry to refuse anything. There was a container of food. It was not hot but still warm. I opened the lid to see the Mac and cheese. I immediately dug in. " Thank you," I thanked him after I finished my meal. He didn't say anything and gave me a small smile before focusing on the road again. I looked out of the window and didn't know when I would fall asleep.
