Of Wolves and Dragons

Chapter Six

Marina laughs uncontrollably. "I can't believe you did that."  

Apparently, what I did to Erica spread like wildfire through the school. So much for keeping a low profile. I look in the mirror fixing my hair into a half ponytail with some strands on the side. I have a short small thin black dress on with a denim jacket over it and black flat thigh-high boots with simple makeup on. There's no way for me to hide my amulet so I just wear it. 

"So, it's this good enough?" I ask Marina. 

"Yea, perfect." She says. 

Marina has a suede tight pink short dress that goes great with her tan olive skin and she has black ankle-high boots with her hair in a ponytail.  

Someone knocks on the door, Marina opens it, and it's Holly. She has a red bustier with a black skirt and sneaker boots which I find odd but still looks great. We let her in and she sits on my bed waiting for us. 

"So....obviously Luke is into you." Holly says looking at me. 

"What me? He does stare at me a lot... but it doesn't matter, he's going to be mated when he turns eighteen, right?"  

("I'm not here to get distracted with a guy anyways. I have to be careful.") 

"Yea, true." Holly says. 

Marina sits on the bed slowly thinking. "You just burst my bubble, I had forgotten about that... and I was liking Parker too." She says looking disappointed. 

She sighs. "Oh well, I guess I could just have fun with him." She perks up again and goes back to doing her makeup. 

"What about you Holly, do you like someone?" I ask. Her cheeks turn red, I didn't know that vampires could do that.  

Holly turns her face away. "No, not really." 

"Ooh, she does." Marina says. 

"No! He doesn't like me so.... it doesn't matter." She says shyly. 

Marina looks at her. "Who is it?" 

"No one!" Holly yells. 

"Oh come on, I will figure it out one way or another, you'll see." Marina says squinting her eyes at Holly. 

"Are you ready yet or are we staying?" Holly asks annoyed. 

"Yea, yea let's go." Marina says also annoyed. 

We head out quietly. Holly leads us to one of the corridors that have marble statues on the walls. She stops in front of one of them and looks both ways. She then pushes the statue's right eye and a small opening appears in the back of the wall. 

"A secret passage?" I ask surprised. 

Holly nods. "They are all over the school." 

"We head through the dark tunnels and luckily, Marina and Holly both brought flashlights. They probably have done this a lot of times. After about five minutes, we make it out through an opening in the courtyard that closes right after we walk through it. We head in the direction of the forest and once we are walking through the forest, I can see why Holly came in those shoes. This terrain is not made for these kinds of shoes even though my boots are flat.  

("That's what I get for listening to Marina.") 

We walk for another ten minutes and from the distance, we can see a bright light through the trees. Once we get there the place is packed, everyone is here. There's a huge bonfire in the middle, we walk around and everyone is drinking and having a good time.  

"Hey, there they are!" We hear Nolan yell. 

We see Nolan, Parker, and Luke with a few more guys in the corners near a table with drinks. We quickly walk over towards them. Luke smiles at me brightly and I smile back. He has a simple white shirt that hugs his body and jeans. It's simple but since I always see him in school uniform, right now he looks very tempting. 

"By the way girls, we'll have to visit the quarry next Saturday. Our parents want us to visit them tomorrow." Parker says looking annoyed. 

"Oh, that's fine." Marina says and I nod.  

"You guys want something to drink?" Nolan asks. 

"Hell yea!" Marina says enthusiastically and Nolan gives her a big smile and hands her a drink. 

I shake my head saying no and so does Holly. 

"I'll find my drink somewhere." Holly says looking at people around us. I look at her horrified and she starts laughing at me.  

"I'm joking." 

I chuckle too, feeling relieved.  

I look at Luke who hasn't taken his eyes off of me.  

"You don't like drinking?" He asks me. 

"That's not it, I just don't like beer, I don't like the taste of it." I say. 

"Ah, I see." 

Parker starts laughing looking to the other side of the bonfire and we see Erica and Jillian. 

"We heard what you did to her." Luke says.  

("Of course you all did.") 

"Man, I wish I could have been there." Marina says laughing. 

"It was an accident... sort of." I say. 

They all laugh again and I roll my eyes. 

Luke's expression changes to anger and he gets closer to me, looking to the side where a few feet away I see Isaac talking to someone.  

I look away and see Marina getting close to parker. "You know Parker, there was this really cool looking tree in the forest on our way here. Wanna see it." Marina says giving Parker a flirty look. 

("Jesus! She's not subtle.") 

Parker smiles. "Lead the way."  

She grabs his hand and pulls him into the forest. 

We all look at each other and start laughing except for Nolan who walks away.  

("That girl is more daring than I thought.") 

I can't help but look at Luke while he starts talking with another guy. He is gorgeous, all these werewolves are but there's just something about him that attracts me to him. He has an amazing physique and is very handsome, his eyes are this light caramel color and when he looks at me, it makes my heart skip a beat. I look away because I don't want him to catch me staring but I end up meeting eyes with Isaac who gives me a cocky smirk. He has a v neck grey t-shirt that hugs his huge muscles and dark jeans. Dirty thoughts pop into my head and I look away, feeling my cheeks heat up. 

("Uh! What the hell is wrong with me!) 

I look back at him and he gives me another cocky smirk. 

(He's so annoying... yet tempting. I never thought that a bad boy would be so attractive to me.") 

I look away and see Holly walk off to talk to a guy and her cheeks are pinkish. He's another vampire and looks like they are friends.  

I keep looking around and see Nolan getting distracted talking to two other girls and Luke... is staring at me again.   

"Wanna go see the lake?" He asks smiling. 

"There's a lake?" I ask surprised. 

He chuckles. "Yea, right there." He says pointing at a dark area where you can see its glistening with the moon reflecting on the water. 

"Holy crap! I hadn't noticed." 

He full-on laughs and starts walking. I follow him and we stop under a tree where you can see the whole lake. We start talking and asking each other questions.  

He told me that even though he's an Alpha, he's not going to be the Alpha of his pack. He has two older brothers and that position falls to the eldest. He also has a little sister, and his pack is this town's pack. He asked me about my life with the humans and I told him how boring it was compared to this school so far.   

"And boyfriends? You had any? Do you still do?" He asks. 

I laugh at that obvious question. "Yea I had a boyfriend and no I don't anymore."  

He smiles. "What happened?" 

"He almost found out that I was a witch and I got paranoid, so I broke it off." I say. 

He nods. "Losing you must have really broken his heart... I know it would break mine." He says staring at me. I hadn't noticed that he was now inches away from my face. 

He looks at my lips and I really want him to kiss me. He lowers his face to mine and softly grazes my lips with his and just that tiny contact feels so right and good. I can feel his warm breath on me and I want to give in so badly but I close my eyes and pull back.  

"Luke, look I like you and I find you very attractive but, eventually you'll be mated to someone and I don't do casual dating so-" He cuts me off. 

"I know, I know it's just... I don't know why I like you so much, but I do. From the first day I saw you I couldn't stop thinking about you and-" He sighs and looks at me with a little bit of sadness in his eyes. 

"All we can be is friends." I say looking down. 

"I know." He whispers. 

I look up at him and he looks really sad. He gives me a half-smile and walks away. He sits near the bonfire looking at the fire and drinking.  

("This sucks! I really like him, these are the moments when I wish we were all just humans. That would make everything so much easier.") 

I feel so bad right now. I walk back to where we were all before and pass by Luke.  

Jillian sits next to him and grabs his arm. "Hey Luke, feel like having some fun?" 

"No, leave me alone." He says looking at the ground. She looks annoyed and walks off. 

I don't want to be here anymore and I'll be the stupidest person if I head back through the woods alone. I look in the direction I came from when we got here and I see a few girls leaving so I decide to go, walking close behind them.  

We all walk for about nine minutes, almost to the end of the woods.  

"Hey, new girl." I hear obviously Isaac behind me. I roll my eyes and turn around. 

He smiles but it seems forced. "Leaving so soon?" 

"Yep, got bored." I say turning back around but he grabs my hand and turns me back to him.  

He squints his eyes at me. "I see that you give free kisses." 

"What? What are you talking about?" I ask confused. 

"Luke... you two kissed." He says now almost growling. 

I scrunch my face in anger. "Okay first of all my name is Victoria, not new girl, second, Luke and I didn't kiss... not that it's any of your business, and third, why the hell do you care?" 

At that last part his eyes go wide and he lets me go. He stares at me with those beautiful blue eyes like he's studying me. Then he looks at me like he made his mind up about something.  

"You're right, I don't." He turns around.  

"Stay away from me." He says walking back to the party. 

I stand there feeling stupid.  

"..." 

("Stay away from him?") 

"WHAT!!... THE HELL!!" I yell at the darkness. "YOU STUPID BIPOLAR WOLF!!"  

I continue walking back to the mansions while I yell angry like a maniac. I make it to the courtyard where I stand at the area that opens into a secret passage. And I stand there...and stand... and stand there some more... just looking at the brick wall.  

"How the hell do I open it?" I look around it and to the sides but nothing.  

"Is it like... like... harry potter where you have to tap the bricks in a certain way?" 

"I'm pretty sure that's a no." Someone behind me says. 

"AHH! s**t!" I yell and look behind me. Luke starts laughing bending me, holding his stomach.  

"LUKE!" I yell angry. 

"Sorry, wasn't trying to scare you." He says still laughing. 

"What are you doing here? Pretty sure this passage leads to the girl's side." I say to him. 

"I wanted to make sure you were okay. You left by yourself and Holly got worried." He says looking around the wall.  

"I'm pretty sure this is the exit area, to go back in you have to go through another one. Or you can just walk through the front door with me." 

I look at him like he's crazy. "Front door?" 

"Yea, I'm a werewolf so I'm allowed to be out at night." He says with a smile. 

"Yea but I'm not." I say. 

"Trust me, I can cover for you if we do get caught. But I'm sure we won't." He smiles. 

I sigh. "Okay, but please don't get me kicked out on just my second day." 

He laughs. "I won't." 

We head up the stairs of the front door and he just opens it. He walks in like he owns the place. I on the other hand take small steps and look to every corner to make sure no one's there and the whole time he is laughing at me. We walk up the stairs and to the hall of the girl's dorms.  

"So you are a complete gentleman and everything, walking me to my room and all." 

He chuckles. "Of course.'' 

We get to my door and I really don't want this to be awkward so I quickly open the door and that was a big mistake. Marina and Parker are fully naked having s*x and moaning. 

I gasp. "What the hell!!"  

I cover my eyes and run out of the room. 

"CRAP! I didn't know you were coming back early!" I hear her yelling from inside the room.  

I quickly close the door and look at Luke who is pinching the bridge of his nose with his eyes closed. He saw as much as I did, and it was a lot of nakedness. Luke looks at me and we both start laughing. We sit on the ground leaning against the wall waiting for them to finish. 

"You know I thought you could hear from far away?" I ask Luke. 

"Yea but the rooms are soundproof. Believe me, I would have warned you if I would have heard them." We look at each other and laugh again.  

Five minutes in, Parker comes out of the room thankfully fully dressed. He looks at me and smiles as if nothing happened and Luke shakes his head. We stand up and Parker walks off, Marina abruptly comes to the door with a robe on and looks at me and then at Luke. Luke looks at her and then at me and then we all start laughing. Once we stop, she heads back inside now looking a little embarrassed.  

"See, much more eventful than when I was at a human school." I say. 

He chuckles and then he gets closer and stares at my eyes.  

He smiles. "You have beautiful blue eyes." 

I smile back. "Thanks, compliments of my dad or so I have been told." 

He smiles and turns around. "Good night Victoria." 

"Good night Luke." 

I walk back in and Marina is tucked in her bed with the blanket over her head. I narrow my eyes at her.  

"You little w***e!" I yell playfully at her. She laughs from under the blanket. 

"I know that I interrupted you but if you would have told me, then I would have given you a bit more time." I say. 

"I'll put a scrunchie on the doorknob next time." She says getting from under the blankets. 

I nod and sit on my bed. "So... how was it?" 

She giggles. "Hot, werewolves can really f**k good." 

I gasp and then giggle.  

"Seriously, they are so animalistic and dominant in bed, uh! I want some more!" She yells. 

"I know I asked but that was too much information." I laugh and head to the bathroom.  

I take a shower and head to bed and all I can think about is Luke. I sigh.  

("Why do we always want what we can't have?")
