Chapter Five

2360 Words
The nurse came yesterday after Parker left and thankfully Marina was fine, she told her to rest and that's what she did, she slept the rest of the day. I didn't want to get in any more trouble so I stayed in my room reading. The headmaster, Marina's grandfather, came to see how Marina was doing and brought us food.   Now it's morning and we are getting ready for class and poor Marina's face looks terrible. Her left cheek is swollen and bruised in a dark purple color.  "God not even with makeup!!" She yells panicking. "What am I going to do for tonight?"  "What's tonight?" I ask.  "A party at the Grove. It's a clearing in the woods where we hold parties at and there's one tonight which by the way we are going to."  "Oh okay.... getting caught is not an option is it." I say knowing that a party in the woods is not something the school will condone.  She shakes her head. "Nope."  I walk to her sighing. I take her wavy hair and split it on the side and put it so it covers her bruise which works pretty well.   She sighs but looks more relaxed now. "Okay, let's go."  We head downstairs and have breakfast and then we say goodbye and head to our classes. While I head to the Supernatural class, I'm dreading it. Isaac is in that class and I really don't want to deal with him. I make it to the class and there are only a few students in. I walk to the back and sit right where I sat yesterday.   Holly walks in and sits next to me. "Hey, I heard what happened to Marina, is she okay?"   I nod. "Yea but she has a nasty bruise on her cheek."   She cringes and shakes her head.  Students slowly start arriving. Jillian walks in, she looks at me, and her face morphs into anger. She sits and then Isaac walks in looking at me and sits next to another guy talking with him but his eyes never avert from me.   I sigh internally and keep talking to Holly, asking her questions about the party in the woods.  "Are you going?" I ask her.  She nods. "Of course I am, it's Friday and everyone goes to these."  Luke walks in and when Isaac sees him, he growls at him. We all look at Luke who now stops in his tracks and is staring at him. They both give this aura of anger and just stare at each other.   "Luke you can sit next to me." Jillian says taking them out of their trance.   "No." He says walking by her and sitting one seat in front of Holly. He looks back at me and to my surprise gives me a wink. He turns back and Holly looks at me with her eyes wide and I shrug my shoulders.   The teacher gets here and starts the class. "Okay, students today we'll be learning about werewolves."   All the werewolves in the class complain and the teacher shushes them. "Enough, yea I get it you lot know all about your kind but not everyone in this class does, so enough. Okay now open your books to chapter nineteen."  I do as she says and looks at a page with a drawing of a werewolf howling.   "Today we'll learn about werewolf mating." She says.  I cringe.   ("Is this a s*x class? That's what mating means right?")  "When a werewolf turns eighteen, they are able to sense their mate. They all have a soul that is their other half, a soul that is compatible with theirs. Usually, they can sense them by their smell and once they look into their eyes, they know for sure. Werewolves in general, mate to other werewolves. However, mate's compatibilities are determined by their status. For example, Alphas souls tend to be compatible with other strong souls so they can be mated to another strong being that is not a werewolf even though now in day, the werewolves are the strongest race. There have also been omegas who have mated to just normal humans. When they find a mate, it is in their nature to try and claim them immediately by marking them, they can't help it. If they are not able to mark their mate, they can calm down eventually but the urge is still there. Now, what does a mark do? Anyone who is not a werewolf in this class knows?"  "It means that they belong to the werewolf that marked them." Jillian says.  "In a way yes, werewolves are very territorial so they mark their mates to let other werewolves and creatures know that their mate is claimed by them."  The teacher keeps going on and on about werewolves mating and it's not at all what I was expecting. In a way it kind of sounds romantic, not the possessive stuff but the whole "they belong to each other thing" and that they want no one else but their mates.   ("I wish most men were like that.")  Finally, class is over and I bolt it out of there with Holly. I meet Marina in our other class and the rest of the morning goes pretty well.  When lunch comes around, we do like yesterday and sit outside in the yard and Holly joins us.  "So what the hell was that today in class? Isaac and Luke were looking like they wanted to kill each other. Oh, and then Luke winks at you!" Holly says riled up.  I look at her just as confused as she is about everything. "I don't know about the wink but yesterday in P.E. Luke and Isaac almost got into a fight, I'm assuming that's what's about."  "Oh, that's weird. They have never had problems before. They're not best friends but their packs are allies." She says and Marina nods in agreement.   I shrug my shoulders not really knowing what to say.  "Anyways, what do we wear to this party." I ask changing the subject.  "Party sexy clothes, the kind that screams to guys, take me now!!" Marina yells playfully and laughing. We all laugh and shush her cause she is being too loud.  Out of nowhere Luke, Nolan and Parker lie down on our blanket with us. We all look at them shocked.  "You girls talking about the party tonight?" Nolan asks smiling looking up at us from where he lies. I look at Luke who is lying next to me with one arm behind his head as a pillow, he gives me a bright smile.   "Yea, I'm telling Vic here that she needs to wear something that makes guys want to take her clothes off."  I gasp. "Marina!" She starts laughing.  "Na, no guys in this school are worth that kind of effort... except for us of course." Luke says smiling at me. I can feel my face go red so I look away.  "So, since you are all going and we are all going, we should hang out." Parker says and Marina beams from ear to ear.   "Definitely, we'll meet you guys there. We have to show Victoria here how our side of the coin parties." Marina says nudging me with her elbow.  "Why, what school did you go to before?" Luke asks getting on his side and holding his head in his hand with his elbow supporting it. He looks at me intently.  "I went to a normal high school with all humans. I think there was just one other warlock around but I didn't really know him."  "Oh, but you've met other kinds of supernatural beings before, right?" Nolan asks.  Marina laughs. "Not even a pixie for what I've heard. You should have seen her when I told her that werewolves could hear from far away and we were talking about y-" I cut her off by putting my hand on her mouth.  I look at her annoyed. "What the hell is wrong with you, get a filter for that mouth of yours!"   They all start laughing but I just can't believe this girl.  "But yea, I really don't know much about any race in this school except for the witches."   ("And the dragons but they don't need to know that.")   "Don't worry, we can teach you all you need to know about werewolves." Luke says winking at me.   ("What a flirt.")   I smile and shake my head.  "That's a cool amulet." Holly says looking at my chest where my amulet hangs. I didn't realize that it was out of my shirt.  "OH! Yea family heirloom." I say a little panicked, I quickly put it back inside my shirt.  They keep talking for a while and I get lost in my thoughts and thinking about my grandmother and all the things that she warned me about, especially about keeping my amulet hidden. And I couldn't even do that.  I am quickly brought back from my thoughts when Luke moves a strand of hair out of my face.  "Where's your mind at right now?" He asks sweetly noticing I was spacing out.  I feel butterflies in my stomach and I smile at his sweet gesture. "My grandmother."  "Oh, do you have any more siblings?" Holly asks.  I shake my head. "No, just me and my grandmother."  "Oh, what happened? You couldn't stay with her anymore?" Marina asks.  "No, she died five days ago and had arrangements made for me to come here." I say.  Marina gasps. "I'm so sorry.!"  I shake my head at her. "Don't be, you didn't know."   Everyone stays quiet and then I change the subject. "So what else do you guys do for fun around here?" The boys all smile.   "The quarry." Nolan and Parker say in unison.  "I still have never been there." Marina says.  I look at them. "What's the quarry?"  "It's not an actual quarry, it's a small lake that is enclosed with huge rock boulders around it and it makes it look like a quarry, so that's what we call it." Nolan says.  "Ooh I love swimming, I want to go." I say excitedly.  The boys chuckle. "Then we can go tomorrow if you want." Luke says.  "Yes!" Marina says excitedly.  We keep talking until lunch is over and then we head to P.E. The class goes on uneventfully and for once I'm thankful. All I got was stares from Isaac and Jillian but we were able to finish our game.   Now I sit in Spells and Potions class feeling a little nervous. We sit on circular tables instead of normal school stools and there are shelves all over the walls with books and bottles filled with herbs and other things that look nasty. I look around and the room is filled with mostly witches and some warlocks.  "You must be the new student, Victoria, right?" The teacher asks.   I nod. "Yea."  "Ok, well at the beginning of the semester I like to see where my students are at with their powers so I require of them to have a small duel, nothing too alarming. And since you are new, I want to see what you know so far. "  ("Oh crap!")  I see Jillian lifting her hand up. "I'll duel with her!"  "No....you are too eager right now... Erica, you'll duel her." The teacher says to the girl next to Jillian.  I groan inside.   ("Not any better, that's Jillian's friend.")   Erica gets up and gives Jillian an evil smile and takes her place. We stand facing each other about fifteen feet away. Erica has her back to the door and I have my back to the teacher's desk.  "I will let Erica do a demonstration of what you are supposed to do and then the duel will commence." The teacher says to me.  I nod.   ("I just have to be careful not to overdo it")  "Now only do non-damaging spells, no fires or anything that will really hurt someone. You will both only do one spell, when it's your opponent's turn to do a spell you will try to counter it. Now name your spell."  The teacher comes near me. "Haegl spell." I whisper in her ear. She nods in approval and walks over to Erica.  ("Now, when it's my turn all I have to do is say the spell that grandma taught me for wind. Not that spells do anything for me but combined with my elemental, manipulation it should look exactly like a wind spell.")  "Okay, Erica do the demonstration first but make it as if it was the real deal. Now commence."  Erica looks at me with a smirk and races her hand. "Raido Tau Kappu Mannaz!" She chants and a ghostly looking hand rushes to me from her hand and pushes me, I stumble back almost falling but hit the desk instead and I hold myself with it. She looks at me satisfied.  The teacher gives one clap. "That's it, something simple, get it?" She says looking at me and I nod.   "Good, now your turn." She says to me.  I stand straight and lift my hand towards Erica. "Haegl Hagalaz Eurol!"    The wind picks up pushing from behind me and hits directly into Erica sending her flying through the double doors and breaking them. She falls to the ground grunting in pain. Everyone gasps.   ("Holy crap, a little too strong.")  "Oops!" I say out loud with my hand on my mouth.   "Ah...ah...okay let me check on her." The teacher says not really knowing what to do.   Students that were walking in the halls look inside the classroom, shocked. I slowly go to my seat and sit with everyone looking at me.  ("Well, this is awkward.")  The teacher pops her head in. "Okay I have to attend to this so class is dismissed for today. Miss winters, we'll talk tomorrow."  ("Dammit!")   "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." I say pleading.  "I know, you're not in trouble." She says helping Erica up. They start walking to the nurse's office.  I don't feel bad about what I did to Erica but I really thought I was holding back.  (Oh well.)
