I left my bedroom to be met with an empty living room. That was unexpected, as every time I go there at least one of the Aguilar twins is waiting there to creep me out, but not this time. It was empty. I decided to not tempt fate and left our apartment as quickly as possible.
I went straight to the cafeteria and waited impatiently for Iris. Don't get me wrong, the bond didn't ignite over the night, but the fact that I'm certain about her telling the truth was a game changer. I have a Mate now, and if my parents taught me one thing it definitely was how to treat your other half.
First ones to arrive at the table were Jake and Rob. I was equally glad to see my best friend and annoyed over having another meal with this silver haired dude. I seriously have no idea who I would pick if I could, the Cousinfucker I was currently living with or some white wolf with hots for my Girl. Ok, who am I kidding. Of course I would pick Rafael, he's weird but at least I can invite Iris over without my roommate ogling her.
Jake and Rob sat down, of course not before the second one gave me yet another deadly glare.
"Where were you? I stopped by your apartment but it was empty." - said Jake.
"Yeah, I got up early and was really hungry." - I answered and I couldn't help the smile spreading on my lips. This is going to be a really good day.
"What are you so happy about? It's the first day of school, not a beauty pageant, you can stop smiling." - my best friend joked, but guess who will be the last one to laugh.
"I have my reasons." - I said shortly and returned to looking for Iris in the crowd of students. Jake gave Rob a look and they both shrugged.
Suddenly opposite from us sat a girl with dark blond hair and bored grey eyes. She acted like she didn't even care about this table being already taken. No 'Hi', no 'Can I sit here?', nothing. She just took a place and focused on her meal.
"Am, excuse me?!" - I said to her. She gave me a bored glance, but nothing about her expression changed even a little.
"You are excused." - she said simply and put a spoonful of oatmeal in her mouth.
I looked over at Jake, but he looked as clueless as I was, but in the corner of my eye I saw Rob barely holding a laugh. So he probably knows the girl, and I suppose this is normal behavior of hers.
"So I see you have already met Sar." - said the most melodic voice behind me. I turned around to see Iris, with already reddened cheeks, even though I haven't said anything to her yet.
I quickly stood up from my seat and surprised her with a passionate kiss in front of all those people. I was never a fan of PDA, but some guys need to learn that this girl is already taken.
"What the damn hell?!" - yelled another familiar voice. Harriet.
I looked at her with the most innocent expression I could muster.
"What?" - I asked, acting clueless.
"When did that happen?" - she asked, pointing to me and Iris.
"Oh this? Well, everybody you'll be lucky as the first ones to know that Iris is my fated Mate." - I said with a proud smile intertwining our hands. Iris blushed even harder, but she seemed glad that I acknowledged her as my own.
Open mouths of our friends, and that weird girl who tagged along were priceless. But still the winner was definitely Harry. She was looking at Iris then at me and back a few times, after which she closed her lips doing her best to regain composure, but after a while she opened them again. Like a fish without water. Hilarious.
To my surprise it was the weird girl who spoke first.
"Well congratulations, but if you're going for Ken and Barbie titles, you got your hair colours all messed up."
I glared at the stranger, cause let's face it she basically offended me and my Mate. Who the f**k is she anyway?
"Actually, who the f**k are you?" - I asked her annoyed.
"Victor, that's Bethany King, Head Warrior's daughter from my Pack." - said Iris.
"Don't call me Bethany, Fake Barbie." - said the Girl. I didn't like her tone, but Iris seemed to be used to it.
"Oh sorry, old habits. It's Sar." - Iris corrected herself.
"You prefer Sarah over Bethany? I don't see much of a difference." - I mocked her.
"Of course you don't, Ken. If the conversation were about hair products you would probably have more input to it."-wow, that girl was mean.
"Vic, it's Sar, not Sarah. My brothers named her that, cause apparently she can't muster one sentence without sarcasm in it. But it totally suits her." - said Iris smiling. As daughters of Beta and a Head Warrior they were probably close, something like Veronica and Martha, but why did I get the vibe that there was no sisterly love between them.
"Ow, thank you, Fake Barbie." - Sar said with evident mockery. Yup, she just proved my point. She'll be a handful, that's for sure. Iris however wasn't offended, not even a little bit.
Sar took a last spoonful of her breakfast and left the table soon after leaving us dumbfounded.
" Don't mind her, you'll get used to it soon." - said Iris to my ear.
I turned my gaze to the rest of the table, and I didn't miss the hostile glare Rob was giving me. I just smirked in response. You know what they say, let the best man win, and guess what, he already did.
Actually none of our friends looked genuinely happy about us. What was their deal?
I was about to ask them what was going on, but I was cut off even before I began.
"Cargarough, my Man! What's up?" - I looked at the newcomer and it was Martin Park - younger brother of Surge Pack's Gamma. As one of the high ranked members from Vincent's Pack I got to know him pretty well. He however now seemed more chilled than back in his home.
He combed his black hair back with his fingers and smiled at everyone. My sister said that Park brothers hit the genetic jackpot, but to me he looked normal. Yeah, he was tall and well built, but we all were. That's a werewolf thing. Maybe it was his asian heritage or something, but I didn't see what all the fuss was about.
"Hey Martin, perfect timing. Let me introduce you to my Mate. Iris Lictorn." - his smile changed into confusion.
"Mate?! But, but, you just got here… literally yesterday." - he started blubbering.
"Yeah, I know… I'm one lucky Dog." - I said grinning and placed my arm over Iris's shoulders.
"Yeah… no, all I wanted to say is that it sucks that you are already taken. I, for example, am more than glad to have a few months to explore my options."
"It's good that both of us got what we wanted then." - I answered.
"Hell yeah." - he said, giving me a high five.
"Oh Martin, meet the rest, this one is Rob Dowson, he's a white wolf" - both guys exchanged a handshake - "And you probably remember my friend Jake Braun and Harriet Moyez from Nica's Pack."
"Of course, Harriet is hard to forget." - he said, giving her a wide grin, but Harry was not herself this morning, she just smiled weakly to Martin. Probably our news took her by surprise.
"Ok, guys. I hate to be the buzz kill, but my first classes are about to start. So I'm gonna take off." - said Jake gathering his stuff.
He's probably right. Let the show begin.
