11. Jake's friend

-Jake P. O. V.- Alright, I know I still have around twenty minutes left till my first Lycan Medicine classes, but I had to get away from the cafeteria. That cocky Bastard always gets what he wants without even trying. God damn it it's hard, watching him get absolutely everything without working even a little bit for it, while I struggle for even a small dose of appreciation. Before his older brother bailed on Crescent Moon, Vic was just like me, always in the shadow, always in the back. He understood me. He knew exactly how hard it is to be an insignificant younger brother, that no one really cares about. But when Vincent left his future Alpha title behind and joined his Mate's Pack everything changed. Well for Victor at least, I was still an unimportant Pack Member, younger brother of a Gamma. I watched my best friend change overnight from third in line Alpha pup, to future of Crescent Moon. I know he didn't ask for this honour, but it made it all even worse. Victor got absolutely everything without working for it. Since we were little he was stronger without exercising, faster without running as much as I did, more popular with girls because he was Alpha's son. So f*****g annoying! Yet somehow his personality didn't even allow me to hate him, because he was genuinely fun and a nice guy. I even wished sometimes that he would be arrogant, or self centered, but he was none of those things. So we stuck together. I know it's childish of me to envy him so many things, but now that he found his Mate not even being 18 yet something broke inside of me. The one thing that I could have before him, and he somehow even managed to take that away from me. And to beat me even more Iris is absolutely gorgeous and lovely, I know she'll be an excellent Luna. A perfect Mate for a perfect guy. I sat heavily in one of the seats in the classroom, still immersed in my self pity. "I can't f*****g believe him." - I mumbled to myself. Then came the voice from behind me. "Who?" - I turned around and just then noticed a girl with strawberry blond curls and green eyes. She was smirking at me, probably amused that I'm talking to myself. How the hell did I not sense her presence. Just great, now my wolf is also failing me. "Sorry, I didn't hear you there. I thought I was alone." - I explained. "Don't feel bad, I'm very good at sneaking around." - she said with a playful smile. She was cute and something about her made me forget about Victor and his Mate. I smiled back at the girl. "I'm Jake, Jake Braun from Crescent Moon Pack." "Amilia Travatto, Foresta Oscura." - she introduced herself. "You're from Europe?" "Yes, Italy." "Cool. I've never been there. What's it like?" - I asked. "Mostly the same. But the language is nicer." - she joked. She was funny and when she smiled she had the cutest dimples in her cheeks. "So, what's your rank?" - I asked, but something about this simple question made her sad, and I momentarily felt bad for spoiling her mood. "Well, my parents are Warriors, but I am Omega." - she admitted not meeting my eyes. "That's weird, in our Pack pup always gets the same rank as its parents have." - I said mostly to myself, but she answered either way. "Yeah, in mine too, but ever since the accident Alpha couldn't name me a Warrior, so I'm officially an Omega till I finish Medicine and become a Doctor." - she explained, but her words brought even more questions. Amilia seemed like a pretty open girl, so I tried my luck to ask about details. " What accident?" " Right after my first shift, hunters targeted my Pack and during their attack I was shot with a silver bullet. My wolf was still recovering after our first shift, so she was too weak to save us both." - she paused to take a deep breath -" She sacrificed her life for me. She spent all her power so that I could make it, but she died in the process. So now I'm alive but wolfless. So you see, my Alpha had no other option than to make me an Omega, but I don't mind, at least I'm useful." - she said all of this with a smile. I'm amazed, how can someone who has been through so much be still so cheerful. I feel bad now for moping about my life being unfair just a few seconds ago. My expression must've been all over the place cause Amelia started giggling. "I'm sorry, that's a very sad story." "Don't be. Better me than my younger sister, right?! At least I'm alive." - I just nodded, cause I had no idea what's the proper thing to say here. - "So who were you talking about, when you thought you were alone?" - she asked, and her green eyes shone with curiosity. "Oh that, it was kinda about my future Alpha, who had found his Mate on his very first day here. Now I feel like a total Jackass for being jealous." - I admitted truthfully, scratching the back of my head. "Good. You should never envy any Alpha, they have the worst job of all." - I gave her a questioning look, because every normal wolf at least once dreamed about being in Alpha shoes. She sighed annoyed at my confusion and explained her point - "It's not easy to carry the wellbeing of hundreds on your shoulders. You should be happy he found his Luna now, when he still has the time to enjoy those little moments, because once he takes over his life will be mostly about duty. It's tragic if you think about it." She was the first one to point out the disadvantages of being on top of the social ladder. She was a smart girl, I'll give her that. " So, your turn. What's your rank?" - she asked happily, and I couldn't help but smile. Wow, she does that to others, she brings joy, and the fact that it's coming from a Girl who have been through so much is even more amazing. "I'm a Gamma, but I have an older sister who will take the title, so my brother in law suggested he could use a hand in a clinic, so here I am." - I answered. "Wow, a Gamma, who wants to be a Doctor. That's unheard of. Aren't you supposed to long for strength and fame?" - she teased me. "Yeah, I probably should, but we have many amazing warriors and only a few Doctors, so to hell with fame." "You can always become a famous Pack Doctor." - she pointed out, and I grinned at her words. That's true, I can become great in other fields than just fighting. "Amilia Travatto, you are definitely the one I will come to, when I'm down again." - I told her and to my surprise she blushed. "At your service, Gamma. It would be nice to have at least one friendly face around." - she said timidly, which I didn't understand. Cause how can anybody dislike this Girl, she's definitely the nicest one ever. I didn't know how wrong I was at that moment.
