1. My year
-Victor P. O. V.-
"Yes Mom, I know we're late but it's ok. Nica told me that this pep talk is so boring she almost slept it through." - I tried to reason with my Mom over the phone.
"Baby, you shouldn't listen to your sister, she's not the best example. She didn't even graduate from this Academy."
"But she ended up alright. You love Anton and even though I hate to admit it, Val is one cute kid."
"That doesn't matter. Veronica wasn't next in line to lead our Pack, we are expecting more from you." - I rolled my eyes, cause it's exactly what I've been hearing for the last three years.
Ever since my oldest brother Vincent decided to turn his back on our family' legacy and follow his mate, in the matter of one day from careless teenager I became heir to the Crescent Moon Pack. Not that I didn't want it, cause I certainly do. But my parents could cut me some slack, after all I saved their asses. With my sister becoming Luna to her Mate's pack and my brother joining Chloe's I was the last chance for our father. I took the position gladly, not that I had anything to say in it. But, who wouldn't want to be the next Alpha?
I envied my whole life that Vincent would take over and I would be merely Alpha's younger brother, but things turned out the other way. Last three years my Dad started preparing me for this role. It must've been a sped up process, cause he didn't have many years like in Vince's case. But I didn't mind. I would have taken a lot more than this to prove myself. I always knew I was made for something bigger.
You see it wasn't the greatest growing up as the youngest. My father already had his Golden Boy and heir and his sweet and fierce Princes. That left me being mama's boy. It all changed the day my big brother decided to give up his duty for his Mate. He shocked me with it. I always thought he would always choose a Pack above his own needs and wants, but I guess I was wrong.
Now Vince and Chloe are leaders of Surge Pack and have a two year old son on their own - Vigo, and he is just like his father, too mature for his age. But our whole family is waiting impatiently to find out what his powers would be. Little one is a white wolf just like his mother. So I hope it's something awesome and he would do some really nice tricks for his favourite uncle!
My big sister Veronica, well she's giving a headache to her Mate now. They have a three year old daughter Valkyrie, and she's the sweetest troublemaker. She could probably set something on fire and get away with it. She's so all over the place that Anton - my brother in law, has a warrior always following her around. He and Nica are now expecting their second child. And I'm already worried what will the two of those brats do with Dragon Night Pack. Guess Veronica's reckless gene runs strong in the family.
With the family growing bigger it's kind of nice, but I would never admit it to my siblings. Well at least not till I won't get the same thing myself.
"Mom, it's ok. I couldn't predict that we would catch a flat tire on the way, so stop worrying. I'm 17 and not a baby any more." - I said calmly to my mother. When it comes to Luiza Cargarough and her children, she's more like a lioness than a she-wolf. She can be overprotective and very scary if she wants.
" I will always worry about you Vicky." - she coo
" Mother! I told you not to call me 'Vicky'."
"Alright, alright. Call me when you get there, Big Bad Alpha. Ok?" - she said teasingly. Only Mom could get away with it.
"Sure Mom. Bye." - I disconnected our call and focused again on the road.
From the corner of my eye I saw my best friend Jake smirking at me from the passenger seat. That Asshole heard the whole conversation with my Mother, and as far as I know him he would start teasing me in 3...2...1.
"So, how are you going to introduce yourself to the Ladies? Baby, Vicky or Big Bad Alpha? I kinda like the first one, it's more inviting and shows the romantic side of you." - he teased me with a stupid grin.
"Watch it Jake, I'm your future Alpha. I can banish you for disrespecting me and my family." - I said with a mocking threat.
"Oh please, you need something better than this to banish Gamma's family members."
"Your sister is a Gamma. It's her I need, not you."
Jessica, his older sister, was supposed to be my brother's Gamma. They grew up together and were always close. I kind of inherit her along with the title just like our future Beta Colin. They are alright I guess, but if I could have chosen my own crew Jake would for sure become my Gamma. But the rules are simple: the eldest child gets the job. So I'm stuck with my brother's title and his friends to help me with it.
"And who do you think is going to replace her, when she starts popping pups out of her, huh?" - Jake pointed out.
"Anyone is better than you." - I smiled devilishly.
Things with me and Jake were always like this. My siblings are one year apart so they always had each other and they were close as brother and sister only can. I on the other hand were an outsider of the three. The youngest who they didn't want to play with. So Jake became like a brother to me. We are like fire and water, totally opposite. He's calmer and more considerate, when I've always got us in trouble. Even our appearance is completely different. I am blonde with brown eyes and he is a dark brunette with gray eyes. But as they say, the opposites attract. So for as long as I can remember, we are the best of friends.
Out bantering made the time fly faster, and before I knew it we were parking in front of the massive old castle. The Woodland Academy.
It looks just like Nica and Vince told me. I guess this would be my home for the next three years.
Jake and I emerged from the car and we shared a look, I could tell he was as excited as I was. Starting here was like a trail of passage to adulthood.
"You ready?" - asked Jake, and I nodded.
"Lycademy, here we come. This will totally be my year!"
