Chapter four

(Elena)

Yesterday I had trouble going to sleep. I wanted to know if Tristan was okay. The chief said he was going to take him home and see how his mom was before taking her tomorrow to a place that could help her and would watch over Tristan until she got better.

“Kaiden, come so I can tie your shoes baby” I called as I holster my weapon.

“In here mommy” Kaiden says. I looked at his shoes and I saw he had tried to tie them. I smiled at him.

“Good job baby. Keep working on it and I'll know you'll get it”, I smiled.

“Yes, mommy” he smiled back.

“Good. Now both of you brush your teeth because we have to go”, I told him, making sure I had everything. He ran off as I made my way to the kitchen to make sure their snack was good for them.

“Kaiden, Kiana, let’s go my little gumdrops” I called. Small feet ran towards me and I saw both of them ready to go. We headed out of the apartment into the car. Once both of my babies were buckled up, we left. Fifteen minutes later, I arrived at the Preschool. I got out of the car, making sure they got their snacks.

“Bye mommy" the twins said at the same time.

“Alright my loves, here are your snacks. I will see you after school. I love you both and be good”, I kissed their foreheads.

“We love you too, mommy” Kiana said. I watched as they walked inside, then I went back to the car and drove to the station. I looked in the rearview mirror before leaving the parking lot and heading to work.

I heard my phone ring. I reached over and picked it up without looking at the caller ID.

“Good morning. This is Detective Morales", I answered the phone.

“Wow, you sounded so professional". I hear a familiar voice on the other side of the phone which makes me smile.

“Jackie, how is Brazil?” I asked.

“We found her. She's okay and has a new identity. The Alpha here will be taking care of her and her pup", Jackie answers. Oh yes, I forgot to mention that I have a few… interesting friends. Jackie is a werewolf. Martha is a witch. Kathie is a vampire and Tania is a hunter.

“That's good. I'm glad she's safe and in a pack where her abusive mate cannot get to her or her pup", I said. Three months ago, we met Sonia, a female rogue with a newborn. She had just been beaten by her mate and she was running for her and her baby's life. We found her at the same time her mate did. We heard the commotion and stepped in. We all fought this man, and it took a silver bullet to the leg to slow him down. Jackie took Sonia and her baby to a shelter only for her mate to find her, which caused her to run to Brazil. Jackie, Martha, Kathie, and Tania went to Brazil to look for her and I’m glad to know they found her.

“I'm happy to hear that. When are you guys coming back?” I asked.

“Tomorrow night. How are the munchkins?” Tania asked. They love my kids and my kids love them. These women have been with me since I was five months pregnant.

When I was five months pregnant, I was walking to a diner where they had the best burgers. Anyway, because I was feeling tired that day, I cut through the woods, which was a bad idea. I ran into two stinking, matted-looking wolves. These four women saved me so, I invited them to eat, and we got to know each other. I also learned that those stinky, matted wolves are called rogues. Ever since they have been with me and became my best friends.

“They are good. They miss you guys", I told them. I knew I was on speaker.

“We miss them too. How is work going for you?” Kathie asks.

“It’s okay. I'm actually just pulling up to the station now", I told them.

“Okay hun. We’ll let you go so you can get to work", Jackie said.

“Thanks. I'll go by the house today to make sure everything is stocked", I told them.

“Thank you" they all say in unison, making me chuckle.

“No problem. See you all soon" I said, hanging up the phone. I got out of my car and headed straight inside to the chief’s office.

“Come in, Elena”, I heard the chief say before I could knock. I walked in and closed the door.

“Tristan is doing fine. My wife is taking care of them now and we're telling her to the doctors after my shift", he informs me. I was glad to hear that. I heard him chuckle and I looked at him.

“I can see the weight being lifted off your shoulders. Here my mate made these this morning with Tristan” he said, handing me two strawberry cheesecake muffins.

“Thank you, chief”, I grinned, taking the muffins. I headed to the break room to get some coffee. I sit down and eat my muffins before going to my patrol car.

The day went by uneventfully and when lunch time came, I went to Subway and got myself an Italian sub. After I finished, I walked out of Subway when my phone rang. It’s the Chief.

“Detective Morales”, I answered the phone.

“Elena, I'm leaving the office early in case you come by my office and I'm not there" he says.

“Okay sir. Please let me know what the doctors say" u tell him.

“I will Elena" he says before the line goes dead. Since I was close to Jackie and the girls’ house to see what they needed. I made a quick note of what they needed and put it in my pocket for when I got off work.

By two o'clock I finished my shift, so I decided to go shopping for what the girls needed and bring it to the house before going to go pick up my babies. I went to the supermarket and got a shopping cart. I got the list out and went to look for the stuff.

“You’re new here. Aren’t you?” a bulky, tall bald man asks.

“No, sir. I used to live here before. I just came back a month ago” I replied.

“What’s your name?” he asked.

“Detective Morales” I said, making sure I said detective clear enough for him to hear.

“Morales” he said, as if trying to remember, then his face lit up and a creepy smile came to his face “you’re Sebastian’s daughter, right?”

“Stepdaughter. Now, if you excuse me, I have some things to do”, I clarified, before walking past him. He grabs my upper arm roughly.

“I’m not done talking to you” he growls.

“But I am. Now I suggest you let go of me before I arrest you for putting your hands on a law enforcement officer”, I said, placing my other hand on my gun. He let go of my arm, placing his hands up in a mocking surrender before stepping back. I quickly got the stuff I needed before paying for it. I went to the squad car, putting the stuff in the trunk, but got this feeling that someone was watching me.

I got in the car and drove to the girls’ house. You might ask why don’t we all live together? Well, because I’m human and they don’t want to put my kids in danger. Yes, Tania is human as well, but she has been dealing with the supernatural world for years. So, that’s why I live apart from them, but we always help each other out and they have even trained me to fight. I’m also very, very good with a gun and fast too.

I pull up to their house, taking the bags inside and putting the things where they go. I then write them a quick text letting them know everything is stocked and quickly head to the station to get my car and then my babies.
