Chapter one
*Five Years Ago* (Elena) “Can you believe it?” I heard Tara say. “Yes, she slept with two boys at the party”, Jessica said. “And here is the best part of all…” I knew that voice. I turned to see Sasha, my best friend. Actually… my only friend. “She’s pregnant and she doesn’t know who the father is” she snickered, making the others laugh at me. How could she do this to me? I trusted her. She’s my best friend. Well… ex- best friend. Yes, that is true. Six weeks ago, I went to a party with Sasha, who asked me to go with her. It was my eighteenth birthday and since I didn't celebrate my birthday, Sasha convinced me to go to this party. The party was in the middle of nowhere in an abandoned building. Well, it looked abandoned from the outside, but inside was a whole different story. To be honest, that night… that night was the best night of my life. I met so many people and I also met these two incredible, hot guys. One is named Aiden and the other one's name is Killian. They were both eighteen, sweet and didn’t treat me as if I were a freak when they saw my eyes. I say this because my eyes are a little different. See, I have one brown eye and the other eye is grey. Anyways, the three of us talked, drank, and they made me laugh. Laughter was something I hadn’t done for real since mom died. I wanted to be different and experiment and so I did. I ended up having s*x with both of them at the same time. Those two worshiped me like I was the love of their life and I let it happen because God only knew what would happen the next day. Tomorrow is never promised, so you had better enjoy the moment and enjoy the moment I did. My result… six weeks pregnant. I ignored them and continued to walk to class. I sat at the back of the class. Sasha and her click walked in whispering, pointing, and snickering. This continued during the whole day until I found myself alone with Sasha. “How could you do this to me, Sasha? I thought we were friends” I said, on the verge of tears. These hormones were getting the best of me. “It’s easy. I like those boys you f****d the other night. I have been trying to get their attention for weeks, yet you go to one party- one party, and you have their attention. You took what I wanted. Now payback is a b***h” she sneered, making me take a step back and placing a protective hand over my still flat belly. This continued until I was four months pregnant. When my stepdad found out I was pregnant thanks to Sasha, he prohibited me from leaving the house ever and made sure to tell me how disappointed he was in me and that my mother would be as well. I was locked in the house and if I even tried leaving I would be left without food or water until he thought it was time. When I was four and a half months pregnant, my stepdad came home drunk and punched me in the face for no reason. He was so drunk that he didn’t notice when I took the spare key to the house. I then waited for my stepdad to leave for the bar with his friends and I left. I grabbed everything that was important, the money I had been saving from the job I had and my mom’s jewelry that my stepdad took from me the day she died, and I left to never look back. ***
