Chapter 2

Cades POV The first day of Senior year is turning out to be pretty bland. It's always the same thing over and over again. Pretty girls, parties, football, Megan, and, repeat. Don't get me wrong it's pretty great having pretty much every girl at school throw themselves at us, but where's the chase? Where's the fun in something easy? I want a challenge. I want something that's going to keep my attention and hold it. “Hey man, you still coming to the party that Megans throwing this weekend? Kick off the senior year with a bang?” Nick asked and I nodded with a smirk. “As if I'd miss it.” As if on cue, Megan saddles up to my side and we walk towards the cafeteria for lunch. Although when we got there, there was a short little thing blocking the way. From the back though, I could tell she had an amazing body. Long black hair, short but curvy. Just what I like. Nick being the asshole is yelled out. “You going in or not nerd?” Mason just laughed, and Megan just smirked. The little dove turned around and her bright blue eyes met mine and she instantly dropped them to the floor. She's the girl from class this morning that fell asleep. I don't recognise her though. Is she new? After teasing her a bit more, she stepped to the side and we walked in. “Man, she is weird.” Megan bit out. “Who is that? I don't think I've seen her before.” I asked. “Dude, that's Taylor Shaw. She's been in our classes since 1st grade. She used to be super talkative but about 10 years ago she just stopped talking to people, stopped having friends, well she has one friend that Amanda girl. But there are rumors going around that she's Emo and a druggie.” Mason commented. After we got to our seats, I saw the little dove sitting with Amanda. I think what would make a girl change so drastically? “You said it was a random change yeah? And she doesn't talk to anyone?” I asked and he nodded his head. Nick smirked because he knew where I was going with this. “I bet I could do it.” I mumbled not taking my eyes off her. Megan scoffed. “What? Do you want to get with that ugly thing?” Nick spoke up. “She may be weird, but she's a hottie. Don't be jealous because the girl has some good looks. She's innocent as f**k though I bet she's a virgin.” Innocent eh? Virgin? Shy? The perfect kind of girl to give me a chase. “I bet I could do it though.” the boys start laughing. “Dude, you couldn't get that girl to give you the time of day. The day she sleeps with you is the day I donate my right nut for science!” Nick barked out. “So make it official.” Megan said with an evil smile. “You have until Homecoming in 4 months to make her fall in love with you and sleep with you.” she said. The boys got quiet. 4 months? That's nothing. I could do it in a week. “You sure you want to give me that much time?” I asked with my brow raised. “Baby if it's Taylor you couldn't do it in any amount of time. So yes, homecoming will be fine.” Cocky much? We agreed to it and I finished my lunch. I look over again and see one of the new football players sitting with them talking. She has the biggest smile on her face. It only adds to the innocent look. “Well, she at least talks to more than Amanda.'' I commented and they all turned and looked at her. “Isn't that the new running back?” Mason asked and I nodded. The bell rings and we head out to our next class. Freaking History. As expected, she's in this class. Sitting in the back. Her friend is with her so I can't take the seat next to her, so I opt to sit in front of her. I keep thinking of ways to do this. But then a little thought in the back of my mind, almost like the angel and devil that sits on your shoulder, says to not do this. My mom would be so disappointed in me. I can see it now. The lecture she'd give me, but I don't care. This is my last year of high school. I'm entitled to live it how I want to. “Good morning, class. To kick start the year, I am assigning a project. This project will be worth 40% of your grade. It is due at Midterms. The project will be on Wars that this world has seen. You will be drawing the war you will be working on out of the lucky bucket. You will be working with assigned partners. Partners will be listed on the board. Spend the day today brainstorming ideas.” He said and turned on the projector. I looked at the screen until I saw my name and the god of luck on my side. I have Taylor Shaw as a partner. Taylors POV I froze. There's no way the gods hate me this much, right? I look towards Amanda. Of course, she got paired with Micah. I mouth ‘help me’ to her and she just shrugs. That b***h. Cade comes over and sits next to me. If he thinks I'm doing all of the work by myself so he can ride out an easy grade then he's easily mistaken. “So partner.” he added so much emphasis on the word partner. I looked at him skeptically. I just got out my notebook so we could brainstorm. “Any idea which war you want to present?” he asked. “It depends. Do we want a modern war, a colonial time war, or do we want the Vietnam era?” I asked. “Most people are going to probably pick world war 1 or 2 or the revolutionary war. I say we could either do civil war or chose the war on terror” he's not wrong. Most people would go for the obvious and easy task of the world wars. We brainstorm for the rest of the class and end up picking the war on Terror. “Alright class is almost up. You are to work on your projects on your own time. We will not be working on them during class from this day forward.” the teacher said. f**k. I don't want to spend any more time with Cade than I have to. “Why don't you give me your number and I will text you about the project?” he asked. Sly dog. “Sure.” I said and wrote my number down for him as the bell rang. I didn't stick around to see his reaction or for him to say anything else. I scurried out of the room and waited by my locker for Amanda and Micah. “I am dying. For sure dying.” I cried out to Amanda as I collapsed on the bench in the locker room after gym. It was our last class of the day. “Oh, come on. You have the best legs in the whole gym class. It was only a 5 mile jog." She was right though, even though I was short I was toned. From doing all of the housework and most of the time walking to and from school, I stayed in shape. “Want a lift home?” she asked. I bit my lip. I knew she would scold me. “No, I have to go to the grocery store to get stuff for my dad.” her eyes darkened. “That's his job. Not yours.” I just shrugged. “It's fine.” She gave me a skeptical look and hugged me. “Alright, at least let me drive you to the store.” I accepted the offer, but I wasn't going to make her do this with me. There's a reason I've never had anyone over my house and I wasn't about to change that now. We were about to walk out of the locker room when we were stopped by Megan with Trinity and a couple of other cheerleaders behind them. “If it isn’t the school weirdo. I heard you got partnered with Cade today. I'm just forewarning you he's MINE. you are to stay away from him.” I mentally scoffed. He's not a toy.
