Chapter 23

1093 Words
It is the role of the parent to be the "rock" for their child, but never the other way around. Children may be "anchors," their needs and love keeping their parent grounded, but that is where the lines are drawn. When parents lean on children, unless the child has grown into a mature adult, damage is caused. It is not the natural order for support to go be given from child to adult, though their love may indeed be a kind of invisible healer. Children should not be weighed down with the worries of adults; concerns such as global warming they have no hand in and no way to cure. Children are the angels we tether by being stable. When parents are truly "grown-ups," children can enjoy childhood, growing to be joyous and loving; they are then ready to be good parents themselves having learnt from good examples. That is what Cassandra had come to know and study when she wanted to finally understand why the dynamics of the relationship with her parents was so screwed up. Her first and basic concept was that she was a screwed up one who had always made things go awry when her mother was always the tip-top and perfect and her brother was well, he was almost perfect in everything according to her father except for the part of being interested in other men. But he had grown to overlook and then ignore the fact like that did not even happen ever. But she was the one who was always considered the black sheep of the family. Cassandra had always known that and her father had definitely not made it any secret either. So today when she was getting ready for the lunch, despite the pain throbbing in her abdomen from the punches and kicks that she had been hit by she knew that she could not wear jeans. She chose a light patterned lovely floral summer dress and then brushed and smoothened her hair into a tidy half-pony tail. When she had finished dressing, she sat down to start her make-up and Sergio chose that exact moment to barge in her closet. “Holy motherfucking hell in the world Cassandra Helena Night!!! What in the world were you thinking last night?” asked Sergio in his big brother voice and Cass could not help but roll her eyes. “Yeah!! So you came to see me for?” asked Cass without even replying. “No s**t Sis!! Are you going to go to lunch looking like that?” asked Sergio as he came and stood behind her and placed one hand on her shoulder and she winced out loud and he immediately moved his hand away. “Please tell me what did you do with the hot doc? I mean, what kind of s*x is this that gives you black eye and all this? Did he beat you up Cass?” growled Sergio. Cass smiled at the thought of him becoming the protective brother and trying to help her out. “You think if he had tried to touch me I would leave him alive Brother? Come on, you know me better than that!!! I went to the gym and had a fight in the ring,” said Cassandra as she put out all the bottles of lotions and foundations on the table and then started checking out which one would be the best for hiding her split lip and her black eye. “With exactly whom did you fight Cass?” asked Sergio as she turned her chair towards him and then he pulled another stool and then sat before her catching hold of her hands. “You remember that gorgeous male specimen that we met on the beach that day? Swimming? The one I asked out? And he said he had a thing with his family?” asked Cassandra as she tried very hard not to blush. “Yes, it was only yesterday Cassandra. I do remember,” said Sergio with a bewildered look on his face. “I kind of ran into him at the gym yesterday after I went there to get rid off all this extra energy and rage and found him kick-boxing. I mean, he is really good but not good as me though. So I challenged him into a fight and then he kind of lost and I sure won by a hair’s breadth. I mean, it was damn intense,” said Cassandra with a smile as if she was talking about a date that had gone very well and not a fight where she had got a black eye. “You sure are a weird kind of chick Sis, but I am not telling anyone anything. But I also know that you have not touched all this make-up I bring you every time so I am going to apply it. After all, I do know more about that than you,” said Serge with a smirk on his face. “Yeah!! Don’t get too cocky b***h,” muttered Cass as Sergio pulled out a bottle of foundation to match Cassandra’s skin tone and then started dabbing it lightly all over her face and then came a series of puffs and brushes and Sergio wielded all of them like a pro and Cass could not help but sigh. Why were the roles changed in their cases? And after fifteen minutes, she was turned towards the mirror and she gasped looking at her own reflection. “Holy heavens Brother!!! You are a magician….I mean….I look like a princess in summer clothes,” said Cassandra in an awed voice. “That I am…but this is only the basic job sweetie. But come on, I can give you beauty tips and lessons later on. Right now we need to get a move on for the lunch,” said Sergio as he stood up and then started going out of the closet and then he turned back and said,” BTW Sis, did I tell you, how proud I am of you for kicking his ass? I wish I had been there to see it.” And Cassandra whopped out in laughter. She pulled out a muted shade of pink for her lips and coated it making her look for the day absolutely perfect. So now she was ready to be berated by her father for being an i***t in the first place and getting engaged to that rat!!! Phew!!
