Chapter 22

His focus was scattered, so filled with nervous anticipation was he, so excited, even giddy. He couldn't hold a conversation or sit still while his thoughts danced in infinite directions. Yet he had to get through the day in one piece. He met Cassandra at a time when he had not expected to look at any woman and neither had he looked at her. But Fate was strange thing. It brought people together at the oddest times and not when even you were ready for it. But he was not going to mess this up today. Not at all. He could picture it already - holding hands, a tingling feeling spreading throughout his entire body. He would take her for a walk through the park and count the ducks; it seemed the most natural thing in all the world. And she, his special girl. But then a text came to his phone. “EMERGENCY FAMILY LUNCH. CAN WE MAKE IT A DATE NIGHT?” It was from Cassandra and Nathaniel remembered that it was Saturday so it was only natural that she would have to go in order to meet her parents or whatever family she had. He chuckled a little bit and then texted back. “OF COURSE!!! EVEN BETTER…GLAD YOU ARE NOT TAKING A RAIN CHECK.” And he sent it. “NEVER. NOT FOR ANYTHING IN THE WORLD I AM TAKING A RAIN CHECK.” And Nathaniel laughed at her passionate reply. She was exactly the woman that he needed, rather he wanted in his life. She was strong, garrulous and she was not scared at all. She did not bother what other people thought and that made her so different. She did not care about getting bruised and she did not worry about the consequences before actually saying and speaking out loud what she wanted. “Why do you look so happy?” asked Cadence as he brought out the box of leftover pizza from the refrigerator and put it on the table. “I did not know that looking happy was a sort of crime,” said Nathaniel as he watched Cadence put the box inside the microwave to heat it up. “I did not consider that you would be this excited about anything at all except the auburn haired witch you were talking about and that too after that tiff with Night,” said Cadence as the microwave beeped and the odour of warm cheese wafted inside the room. “Well it is the auburn haired siren and her name is Cassandra and we have a date,” said Nathaniel as Cadence dropped the slice of pizza he was holding back in the box. And then he looked carefully at Nathaniel. “Bloody Hell mate!! Who on earth did that to you? Did you get beaten up last night? I mean, you are SEAL for f**k’s sake man, why would you take beating like that?” asked Cadence as he came closer and Nathaniel turned towards the mirror and looked at himself. Truly he looked like hell but honestly, he had never felt any better at all. “Yeah well I lost a fight,” said Nathaniel with a grin lighting up his face leaving Cadence all confused. “You lost a fight to whom exactly? I mean, how many were there? Five? Ten? Did you go brawling again Nat? Do you know that what will happen if Night get a whiff of this?” asked Cadence with a scowl on his face. “No Cad. I went to the gym. Not go brawling, I am not a kid of fourteen with hormones raging in my body to fuel my stupidity. And I had a fighting bout with one person. One woman really,” said Nathaniel with the grin still on his face. “And this woman was the female version of Hulk I suppose? But from your smile I am guessing that it is not and you are somehow still happy about losing even after getting banged up. What exactly happened to you Nat? I mean did you get hit in the head so hard that your brain is not functioning properly is it?” asked Cadence as he went back to take the slice of pizza and Nathaniel said,” I lost but it felt good. I mean, I was the one who was sloppy in that fight Cad. It was not her fault and I just did not guess that she would be this good. I mean, so good that she gave me a run for my money.” “This should be really interesting. SO I am guessing that you ran into her at the gym, is it?” asked Cadence as his mouth was full of pizza and his eyes were alight with mirth. “Yeah!! She was there for the same reason as I was. I mean, to relieve her frustration because of a bad date and I was almost finished punching and kicking when I found her staring at me. Then we had a match, and I punched and kicked but she was smaller and lighter on her foot and that was the reason she could use it to her advantage to such an extent. I mean, I think I gave her a black eye and she just texted me that she has a lunch thing with her folks. So we will have to make it at night,” said Nathaniel as he took a slice of pizza and moaned at the feeling of the cheese and pepper bursting in his mouth with flavours. “Man you just sounded as if you came,” said Cadence with a look on his face which said that it was gross. “Yeah, may be I did. The pizza is good. We should have it again. But tell me Cad, would you have any idea at all where should I take her? After all this is a date night and I know that she likes dancing and she also loves good food and music and conversation,” said Nathaniel as he tried mentally searching a place which would fit all the counts. “You can take her to that place near the beach…I mean, it is known for a good dancing place and after that if you want to grab a bite then you can go to the shacks nearby. And ocean and moonlight is supposed to be a favourite choice with ladies, I guess?” shrugged Cadence and Nathaniel knew that his friend had just hit the mark.
