Chapter 9: Emily

1829 Words
The rest of the school day passed uneventfully. It was pretty remarkable since we had to deal with Samanatha all day, but it was so much better than what it could have been. The rest of the week remained uneventful as well until Thursday. Since Cheyenne turns eighteen tomorrow, it is school policy that she takes the day off and then comes back the following day. In her case, it turns into a long weekend. What Cheyenne didn’t realize is just what was going to happen tonight when my parents came to pick us both up from school. I wake up extra early to make sure that she gets her gift this morning. It is a gift card bouquet. It has Starbucks, McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, Dunkin’ Donuts, Chick-fil-A, Sephora, Target, and three other local places that offer gift cards. I had been buying them up for an entire year when I decided to do this idea. It also had candy bars and some more of her favorite snacks built into it as well. I know it seems like a lot to do for someone, but I truly do love gift giving and I love to make sure she is taken care of. She is my favorite person after all. After I made sure that she would see it first thing, I decided to go grab a quick shower. I know school won’t start for another couple of hours, but I feel like I could really use the extra bath this morning. When I got out of the shower, Cheyenne was wide awake and almost in tears. “Cheyenne!? What’s wrong?!” She looks at the bouquet then looks at me and smiles. “You are the absolute best friend a girl could ever ask for.” I smile and rush over to give her a hug. “No, you are. This is to say thank you. Thank you for sticking with me even when times got tough. Thank you for always being willing to listen to me. And the biggest thank you of all: Thank you for always having my back.” I hear her sniffle as she pulls away from me slightly and smiles up at me. “Thank you, Emily. It is a wonderful gift.” “I’m so glad you like it. Now, you need to get dressed so we can go meet Zach and Trevor for breakfast.” I give her a playful wink as she starts to blush. She quickly gets up and rushes into the bathroom. While she was in there, I pulled the gift that Trevor had purchased for her yesterday out of my closet and placed it on her bed and then started getting ready for the day. When she stepped out of the bathroom, she had her hair wrapped in a towel and had a bathrobe wrapped around her body. I was busy doing my makeup when she cleared her throat. “Uhm… Em… What is this?” I didn’t even pay attention to her. “What is what?” She sighed and I could hear her starting to get frustrated. “What is this on my bed?” I try not to giggle as I know exactly what it is. “I don’t know. Is there a note on whatever it is?” She sighs and walks closer to the gift. “There is.” I sigh and roll my eyes. “Well, what does the note say?” I hear her pick it up off of the wrapped box and rip open the envelope. She clears her voice and starts to read. “To the love of my life. I hope you enjoy what I picked out for you. I can’t wait to see you in it. Please don’t be mad at me for requesting you wear it today so I can see you in it before your birthday tomorrow. I hope you like this gift and the one that is inside the boxes. Love, your secret admirer.” I shake my head. He really is cheesy, but I know Cheyenne likes that stuff. “Well, that was sweet. What is in the box?” She shakes her head and looks at the box. “I’m not sure. The note says there are supposed to be two boxes though.” I purse my lips together. I don’t want to give it away that I know what the other gift is. “Maybe it is a box inside of a box? I don’t know, but I want to know what is in that box. Open it!” She giggles and shakes her head. “Fine! I will open the box. Just give me a second.” She shreds the wrapping paper off of the box and slides the lid off. Inside of the box is another smaller box laying on top of tissue paper. She pulls out the smaller box and sets it to the side. She opens the tissue paper and gasps. Inside the box is a complete outfit for her to wear. It is a beautiful burgundy sweater with a burgundy plaid skirt. She also received knee high white socks to go under the skirt and a new black handbag. “It is beautiful…” I smile and nod to the other box. “What is in that box?’ She slowly picks it up and opens it as well. She gasps again and I watch as her eyes start to slowly fill with tears. She lays it down and I see a golden necklace with a ruby pendent and matching gold and ruby earrings. “I can’t believe this.” I smile bigger than before. Trevor did a fantastic job. “Whoever this admirer is, he sure knows how to take care of a girl.” I give her a wink and watch as she shakes her head. “Did you have a hand in any of this?” She looks at me utterly confused and all I can do is smile. “I can honestly say, I had no hand in doing this. Your admirer just made sure that I got the gift and asked me to place it on your bed this morning.” She gasps and her eyes go wide. “So you know who it is?” I shake my head. “Nope… It was actually one of his friend’s friends who gave me the gift to give to you.” “How do you know it wasn’t the person who gave it to you?” She looks at me quizzically. I smirk and shake my head. “Because the guy who gave it to me to give to you already has his fated mate. I have met her personally and she is a wonderful person.” “Oh…” She looks down at the box and sighs. “Do you think Trevor will mind if I wear another man’s gift? I really do like him.” I can’t help but giggle. “I don’t think he will mind at all. Besides, you don’t have to tell him who it came from. You can honestly say you have no idea who gave it to you.” She giggles and nods her head. “You’re right, I can honestly tell him that.” She looks down at the box and sighs. “I might as well start getting ready. How do you think I should do my hair for this?” I giggle and nod my head. “That is easy. You are going to want an updo. That way it will showcase the earrings and the necklace better.” She smiles bright and nods her head. “You’re right.Thank you.” I smile back. “Any time! Now hurry! We don’t want to be late for breakfast.” After about twenty minutes of her doing her hair and makeup, she finally put the new outfit on and we headed down to the dining room to meet the guys for breakfast. They were both standing outside of the dining hall waiting on us with an extra person at their side. “Hey Demitri! What are you doing here?” He chuckles and nods his head. “I wanted to come and help celebrate the birthday girl a day early this morning. Is that alright?” I look at Cheyenne who nods her head firmly. “That is alright! We love hanging out with all of you!” They all three chuckle as Zach and Demitri move to the sides so Cheyenne could stand closer to Trevor. “How about we head inside? I know I am starving,” he says. Cheyenne nods her head and I can see the slightest hint of a blush creep onto her cheeks. “That sounds like a good idea.” We all walk into the dining hall together and find a large table for us to all sit at. We place our bags down and then hop in the lines to get our breakfast. Zach, Demitri, and I all watch as Cheyenne and Trevor head straight for a line together. I sigh and decide to speak my mind out loud. “I really do hope that they are fated mates. It would be an awful shame if they weren’t. Trevor seems like such a wonderful guy to her.” Zach smirks and Demitri nods his head firmly. Zach decides to speak first. “I think they are fated mates. I have never seen him this taken with anybody before in my entire life. Mind you, I have known the guy since we were both in diapers.” Demitri nods his head. “As someone who has seen the mate bonds in several people, this is looking more and more like a mate bond relationship with every passing day.” I sigh and nod my head. “Too bad we won’t know for sure until tomorrow at her birthday party.” Zach sighs and nods. “You’re right. Speaking of which, do your parents know we are coming over for the party?” I smile at them both and nod my head. “They do. We are going to have vampire options at the party as well. Lucky for you, my parents have some O negative stocked for when we have guests over on weekends.” Demitri chuckles and nods his head. “Thank you. I was actually going to ask if I needed to supply my own food and drink for the night. I guess I don’t have to worry about that.” I giggle and shake my head. “No, we don’t.” I turn to Zach and Demitri and sigh. “We better go get our food. I know we don’t have an entire hour to eat, but we still need to eat something.” They both nod in agreement and we part ways so we can meet back at the table to eat breakfast.
