Chapter 10: Emily

1997 Words
After breakfast, we parted ways with Demitri to head to our English Literature class. Today we were discussing Romeo and Juliet. It turns out that Shakespear is still a pretty big deal, even today. After the class was finished, we moved on to Chemistry class and so on until it was finally time for school to let out. When the final class was over, Cheyenne and I headed back to our dorm room to pack our stuff. I knew that I wouldn’t be coming back until Monday along with Cheyenne. Once we got to our dorm room, we both started packing our bags. We made sure that we had all of our toiletries, our makeup, and everything else we were going to need over the weekend. It took us about thirty minutes, but once everything was packed, we were able to head downstairs to meet my parents for the short car ride home. We got our bags downstairs when we noticed three large figures standing next to the car. “Huh, I wonder who that could be.” I look at Cheyenne who seems just as confused as me. “I’m not sure.” She squints her eyes to try and get a better look of the three dark figures. It is hard when the sun has already set for the day. “Let’s find out. What do you think?” I nod my head firmly. “I think we should too.” We start walking straight towards the dark figures when one of them calls out to us. “Hello ladies!” I smile when I realize. It was Demitri’s deep voice and he, Zach, and Trevor were all here waiting for us with my parents. I smile as we walk straight over to them. “Heye guys! What are you all doing here?” Demitri smirks and nods towards the car. “Zach and I saw your parents and figured you two were about to leave campus for the weekend. We didn’t want to miss the chance of saying goodbye.” I smile and turn towards Cheyenne who is blushing deeply as Trevor starts to hit on her. Zach slides next to me on the other side and we watch as their little interaction unfolds. I sigh and shake my head. “I can only pray to all of the Gods and Goddesses that they are fated together.” Zach clears his voice and smiles. “I don’t think much prayer will be needed, darling. I’m pretty sure those two are fated.” He turns to Demitri. Demitri nods his head and smiles down at me. “Here, allow me to put your bag in the back of the car.” I smile and shake my head. “Please, you don’t have to do that, Demitri.” He smirks down and raises his eyebrows. “I know, but I want to. Please, let me do this.” I sigh and shake my head. “Alright, fine. You can place my bag in the back of my parents’ car.” Demitri smirks and takes the bag carefully out of my hands. Zach quickly grabs Cheyenne’s bag while she and Trevor are still talking and places it in the back of the car as well. They both close the back end of the car and turn to face both of us. “Your chariot awaits,” Demitir smiles. I can’t help the giggle that rises from my chest at how he is acting right now. “Why, thank you, kind sir.” I give a fake curtsy as Zach opens the car door and Demitri helps me climb in. As I get settled in I smile up at my parents. “Hey Mom. Hey Dad.” My mom smiles. “Hey Em. Hey Demitri. Hey Zach.” The boys smile politely and both wave as they say, “Hey Mrs. Smith,” in unison. My mom smirks at them both. “Are you two going to be at Cheyenne’s party tomorrow night?” Zach decides to take the lead on this conversation. “Yes, ma’am, we are. We are also bringing over a couple of more friends with us, if you are okay with that.” My mom smirks and nods towards Cheyenne and Trevor. “As long as that young man is one of them, I’ll be alright with it.” Zach turns and looks at the couple and ends up looking like an i***t from how big his goofy smile is. “Oh, Trevor is going to be there. I doubt he would miss this party for anything. Even if he somehow died tonight, I feel like he would come back to life just to go to the party tomorrow.” My father adjusts the rearview mirror so he can get a closer look at them too. He gives a low whistle as he watches them. “I would say those two are fated mates if I ever did see a pair. I hope he is going to treat her right. She deserves a good guy.” I smile and nod my head. “I think he will. I have a good feeling about him. Oh! Since she isn’t in the car yet, is her big surprise at the house?” My mother giggles and nods her head. “Her big surprise is at the house. I doubt they would have missed this party too.” I nod my head contently and sigh. “I’m so glad they are going to be here.” My dad nods his head too. “We are too. It is rough when your child is so far away most of the year. It is rough on us to give you to them for a month over the summer break, but we do it so you two girls can see each other.” I nod my head and smile. Demitir looks down at me and c***s his head. I sigh and nod before I go into more detail. “She and I are literally best friends. Neither of us have anybody else and neither of us have siblings. Her mother had to have an emergency hysterectomy when she was born due to a ruptured uterus. I’m a fertility baby, so the likelihood of them having me was pretty slim to none.” Demitir nods his head and smiles sadly. “Do you think you will have the same issues?” I sigh and shrug my shoulders. “I hope not, but I won’t know until I start trying to have kids.” As soon as I finished my sentence, Cheyenne slid into the backseat of the car next to me and turned towards Trevor for one last goodbye. “I’ll see you tomorrow night?” Trevor grins and nods his head. “The only reason you won’t see me is if I am dead. Even then, I’ll still come and see you as a ghost.” Cheyenne and I both giggle as he gently closes the door. I turn to Demitri and Zach and smile. “We will see you guys tomorrow night.” Demitri and Zach both nod. “We will see you tomorrow night,” Demitri states firmly. He gently closes my door and they all step away from the car. As soon as the area was clear, my dad started to slowly take off towards home. He turns to my mother who nods and then clears her throat. “Cheyenne, dear, who was that young man with you?” Cheyenne blushes slightly and lowers her head. “His name is Trevor. He goes to school with us.” My dad starts to smile and sighs. “Well, we think he seems like a very nice young man. Maybe you two should try going on a date sometime soon.” Cheyenne’s eyes light up as she gasps. “You guys really like him?” My mom giggles and nods her head. “We really do. Also, he seems to know Zach and Demitri pretty well, which means he is going to treat you right.” Cheyenne’s smile couldn’t have been bigger in that moment as she starts to do a happy dance in her seat. “Thank you! Oh my goodness! I need a new outfit for the date!” I giggle and nod my head. “You sure do… I think we should wait until after tomorrow night though, just to be on the safe side.” Cheyenne nods her head excitedly. “You’re right! Oh! I wish my parents could be here for this. I am actually going to get to go on a date with a guy who actually seems interested in me!” My dad chuckles. “Are you planning on asking him out?” Cheyenne gasps. “Oh crud… I didn’t think about that. Do you think he would say yes?” We all laugh at that and nod our heads. I place a hand on her shoulder and turn her to face me. “Yes, I think he will say yes.” Cheyenne smiles and then continues her happy dance the rest of the way home. It wasn’t a long car ride, but it was still too far away for us to walk back and forth to school. We aren’t allowed to have cars on campus either, so it makes things pretty difficult for those who commute back and forth to school. As soon as we pulled into the driveway of the house, I noticed an extra car right off the bat. My father pauses and slowly puts the car into park. He turns around and looks at Cheyenne and gives her a shy smile. “Please, don’t be mad at us. We got you a really big and special birthday present. When you walk inside you are going to see it. We all hope that you love it as much as we love you.” Cheyenne’s eyes seem to cloud over with tears. “You guys didn’t have to do that. I would have been totally fine with some store bought cupcakes and pizza.” My mom giggles and shakes her head. “Nonsense. That stuff is for your party tomorrow night. Tonight’s dinner is going to be far more special than that. This present though… This present is probably going to be the most special gift we can give you. Please enjoy it while it lasts.” Cheyenne c***s her head to the side and looks at me. “Did you know about this?” I shake my head and hold my hands up. “I’m not saying a thing. Come on, let’s go see what the present is.” Cheyenne quickly jumps out of the car and rushes up the front steps of our house. She pushes open the door and just inside the door, her present is standing there with huge, watery smiles on their faces. “Happy birthday, Cheyenne!” Her parents smile big as they hold their arms out for her to hug them. “Mom! Dad!” She runs head first into their embrace and she starts to tear up. “I didn’t think you two were going to be able to make it!” Her mom smoothes back her hair and shakes her head. “We are not going to miss your eighteenth birthday party. Come on, let’s get out of the way so everybody can come inside.” We all quickly move out of the doorway and start getting ready to settle in for the night. My parents decided to do a delivery order of Mexican food for dinner and then they had popcorn, candy, and soda all ready for us to watch a movie together. They decided to do one of the old Air Bud movies that Cheyenne loves! It was the perfect night to the almost perfect day. Tomorrow was going to be her perfect day, I am sure of it.
