Chapter 5: Emily

Demitri c***s his head to the side. “You don’t get to socialize with other vampires or even warlocks? They are the closest race to humans without them being human. Why haven’t you been allowed to socialize with them?” Cheyenne blushes and lowers her head. I sigh and take the lead. “Part of the reason Anya, Samantha, Angeline, and the others were bullying me so much was because I wouldn’t allow them to bully Cheyenne.” Cheyenne sighs and nods her head. “It’s true. I’m not the most attractive girl around. I’m short, I’m fat, I don’t have the best complexion, and on top of everything else, I’m built like a brick house. No guy wants to date me and no girls want to be friends with me. They would prefer to just gossip about me behind my back instead of getting to know me.” Demitri gives her a confused look. “I wouldn’t say any of those things are true. You are a beautiful girl. You have amazingly curly hair, your eyes are a beautiful hazel, and your skin is like milk chocolate. Now, am I saying that I am physically attracted to you? No, but I do know some of the guys around here who are. You just haven’t been able to see them past the incredibly dense fog of negativity and hate that has been surrounding you because of those girls. If you would like, I could introduce you to a few of them.” Her eyes go wide. I can’t help but smile at her excitement. “Really? You would do that?” Demitri smiles. “Of course! In fact, why don’t I invite them to your birthday party? I’m sure they would love to come and celebrate an amazing young woman such as you. We can leave the group of mean girls here. They don’t deserve to have fun with anyone, let alone you.” I look at Cheyenne and smile. “Well…? Will you let him do it? Please! I want to see you dancing the night away with an amazing guy! Please!?!” She smiles and then gives the biggest and fakest sigh on the planet. “Fine… Demitri can invite them on one condition.” Demitri smirks. “Okay, what is your condition?” She smiles. “I want you to come to the party too. Demitri nods his head and smiles. “I would love to come to your birthday party! I can’t wait to help celebrate someone as nice and kind as you.” I smile and realize just how happy seeing them makes me feel. “You two are awesome! I knew this was going to be the best group ever!” They both laugh as we finish up with the last of our homework and start working on our history project together. We all decided it would be best to write a script of what we are going to say and then try our best to memorize it. After that was determined, we started searching the internet for as many pictures as we could find and started doing our best to make our powerpoint. Even though the project wasn’t due for another three weeks, it was already pretty much done. It gave us more time to focus on other things in our lives, like planning birthday parties! When the day ended, we all got up to leave the library. Cheyenne and I walked back to the girls dorm and headed to the fourth floor while Demitri headed to the boys dorm. We waved goodbye to each other and confirmed the plans to meet up tomorrow afternoon to work on the project some more. We decided to head to Cheyenne’s dorm. Out of the two of us, her roommate was a little nicer to us than Samantha was. Her roommate was human, so it was just a win-win situation. When we got there, though, something strange was happening. Our resident assistant was standing outside the room with Samantha close beside her. She looked beyond pissed off and seemed ready to kill someone. “What’s going on?” Cheyenne looked between her dorm room door, the resident assistant, and Samantha’s glowering face. “You and Samantha are trading rooms. You and Emily will be living together now.” We turn around when we hear Zach’s voice standing behind us. He was carrying a large suitcase stuffed full of all of Samantha’s stuff. “I still don’t understand why I had to be the one to move!” She pouted as she crossed her arms tightly over her chest. Zach growled in response. “You are the one who has to move because you are the one who was bullying Emily! You were also the first one out of you three we could find. Now, set your s**t aside so we can help Cheyenne get everything packed up and get her moved in with Emily.” Samantha’s face said it all. She was appalled by his words and behavior. I had to hide my laugh as she started to glower at me. Cheyenne didn’t seem to know what to do, so she just opened the door to her dorm room. Her roommate was in there on her bed studying when all of us piled inside. “Uhm… Lizzy, I am trading rooms with Samantha. Sorry about that.” Lizzy didn’t seem too fazed by the news. “Whatever… Just let me get to a stopping point before you ask me to help with anything.” I step forward with a smile. “That won’t be necessary, Lizzy. We will do our best to make this as quick as we can.” I stepped over to Cheyenne’s bed and pulled her large suitcase out from under it. “Come on, I’ll help you get your clothes packed.” Cheyenne nodded and jumped into action. It didn’t take us too long to get all of her things packed and ready to move. Part of the reason is because she didn’t have much to pack. Just a few changes of clothes, a fresh set of bedsheets, a few personal items, and her toiletries. Another reason Cheyenne was bullied was because she was here on scholarship. Her parents couldn’t afford to send her back and forth on the weekends and she often didn’t have any money to do anything off campus. She was considered poor when she was on campus, which shouldn’t have been an issue other than the fact that she couldn’t go and do like some of the other students. Instead of allowing her to spend her weekends here, I typically take her home with me. Every weekend, we turn it into a slumber party. She has her own room in our house with her own things in it too. In fact, the party we are throwing this weekend is actually at my house. My mom was so excited to throw her a birthday party too, and what she doesn’t realize is that her parents are going to be in on Thursday to help celebrate this awesome milestone in her life! It is supposed to be a secret, so I haven’t told her yet. It is so hard, but I know it is going to be a good surprise for her. Once we got her things packed up and ready to move, Zach grabbed her suitcase and started rolling it down the hallway. “Get comfortable, Samantha!” He yelled over his shoulder. “Also, enjoy your new roommate! She seems nice!” Cheyenne and I both suppressed laughs. We knew what he said was complete sarcasm. Lizzy is okay in small doses, but she is not the ideal roommate. She doesn’t want to talk to anyone, she doesn’t want to share her space, and she doesn’t like anyone else being in the room unless it was mutually agreed upon by both of them. “Truly, I think they both deserve each other,” Cheyenne whispered. I snickered and shook my head. “You are so bad!” I look up and see Zach suppressing a laugh too as we make the short walk to our new dorm room together. I unlocked the door and pushed it open. My side of the room was just as I had left it this morning. I turned towards what used to be Samantha’s side of the room and noticed just how barren it truly was. I smile and look at Cheyenne. “Are you ready to get moved in?” She smiles and nods her head. “I have been ready to do this since the beginning of the year! Let’s get me moved into our room!” I smile and start pulling her clothes out of the suitcase. We get all of her clothes folded, hung up, and put away. We then make her bed and hang up her personal items. This takes us about an hour to do and by the time we were done, it was time for us to head down to dinner. Zach stayed back to help us finish the moving process, so we asked him if he wanted to eat with us. “Sure! I don’t have any other plans. My beta is going to be dealing with his little sister soon, so I don’t have to deal with it.” I smile brightly and nod my head. “Great! Then let’s head down and grab something to eat. I’m starving!” We make our way down to the dining hall and jump in line to get in. Tonight was Italian night, so there was everything Italy to choose from. Pasta, pizza, salad, and even Italian wedding soup! The only ones who didn’t get to enjoy nights like tonight were the vampire race. They could still eat in here, but it was more difficult for them to do so with the garlic sensitivity. To my surprise we found Demitri waiting in line too. We asked if he wanted to join us for dinner and he accepted the offer warmly. After we all sat down, Demitri was the first one to speak up. “So, Cheyenne, how do you like your new room?” I was floored and so was Cheyenne. “How did you know?” Demitri smirked and looked at Zach who smiled too. “Well, Zach and I sort of planned the move to happen. We both knew that Samantha was in study hall the last two periods of the day, so we made sure that she packed her s**t up and was there waiting when you two arrived” He takes a slow sip of his O negative blood and licks his lips. “I have to say, I hate that I wasn’t there to witness it.” Zach started to chuckle and even nodded his head. “You did miss out. It was pretty funny… Oh, do you mind helping me with something after this? I could really use the help from a vampire on this project I am having to do.” Demitri smiled and nodded his head. “Of course! I would be honored to help you out.” After that, we ate around polite conversations about school work, extra curricular activities, and even about what to expect on Friday. I have to say, it really felt nice to have a whole group of people to talk to.
