-Diana's POV-
"By the way, what is your name?"
"Garnet." She says.
"Garnet... that is a nice name. I am Diana."
"Well Diana, we are here." Garnet opens a purple door.
We head inside and it is definitely a magic shop.
A woman behind a counter dressed in fancy old-style gypsy clothing nods at us.
"So what are we doing? What do we need?" Garnet asks.
"You need to... balance your power, energy so that you can have control and change back. Basically, you need to connect to the elements." I say and then mutter. "Asking for help from the fairy diety should help." I look at her. "I will help you with this. I can guide you through it."
"This sounds complicated." She says.
"It is not. It is as complicated as you make it."
"What does that even mean."
"The ingredients that we need are simple and so is the prayer. It is up to you and your own will to make this work." I tell her.
"Prayer! Pray to who?! It sounds to me like I am the one performing this spell."
"You are and it is not a spell. It is a prayer to help you connect to the elements. I will just be there to lend you my energy."
"I am not a witch!" She says with panic.
"You don't have to be a witch to do a simple prayer and like I said, it is not a spell."
"A prayer! And when do prayers work!"
"Prayers are not spells but they do work like magic, especially for someone like you. You are a creature of magic and that is enough for something like this to work. The problem that you have is that you are not in tune with your magic, the magic from which you came."
"I... have never done this." She mutters.
"You've never tried magic?" I ask.
She shakes her head.
"Creatures who are born out of magic can do simple magical things. For example, fairies can sing to plants and make them bloom even if they are not in season." I say.
"How do you know this? How do you know so much?"
"Uhm... I'm a librarian. I read a lot of books." I respond.
She narrows her eyes at me.
"I... I can't tell if you are lying or not...What are you?" She asks.
I motion to my mouth as if I were zipping my lips, letting her know that I am not telling.
She looks annoyed but she steps away and lets the issue be.
"Alright, so we need, flowers, candles, pure earthly dirt, incense, and...Tiesbie leaves." I say.
"Tiesbie leaves? What are those?" She asks.
"It is a magical plant. Rare in the human world but most of these magical shops always have them." I say.
"Magical plant? From where?"
"You of all people should know that there are other planes of existence that overlap this existence. I mean, you are already halfway in the ethereal realm in this state. People of old used to call them other worlds."
She nods. "Well, I keep myself grounded in the human world. I feel like... I might get lost if I peek into the ethereal realm." she says.
"You are not wrong. You might not be able to find your way back if you fully give in. That is what happens to most fairies."
"Exactly." She says.
"And that is also why your kind is rare in this world."
"Exactly." She says again. "Now let's get what we need before I completely disappear... and a bit of warning..." She now whispers. "... just don't go through that mirror over there. Trust me, it won't be fun."
I look in the direction she points and see a mirror that is clearly a portal. Magical shops tend to have mirrors like that connecting them to other shops across the world.
"You know, once we get you in tune with your magic, you'll probably be able to do many things at will like going invisible whenever you want."
"It can't be that easy. I have never been able to do things the easy way."
I shrug my shoulders.
"We need... fresh flowers, pure dirt, green and yellow candles, Jasmine incense, and... the Tisbie lief."
As I say all this, I walk through the shop grabbing everything I need.
"Perfect." I say and head to the counter where the gypsy lady stands.
"I need a Tisbie lief." I say to her.
She nods, taking a jar from under the counter.
"Oooh, it glows." Garnet says.
"It is a magical plant." The gypsy says, looking straight at her.
"You can see me?" Garnet asks.
"Of course, my dear."
This woman must be strong to be able to conceal her power. I can't feel anything coming from her at all but she doesn't seem to pose a threat to us so I don't think there is a reason to be worried.
I pay and we head out back to the school.
"Why... are you helping me? You gain nothing from this and you don't know me." Garnet asks as we walk back.
"It's in my nature to help others. I can't help it."
She stays quiet as we walk with a finger under her chin, thinking.
"Are you... an angel?" She asks and I can see she is serious with this question because of the way she intently stares at me.
I giggle. "No. I... am none of your concern."
"Fine, but the only reason I am not more inquisitive is because I just want you to help me."
"And I am okay with that."
We make it back to the school and head upstairs where I turn to Marco's office. The door is open but I still knock. However, no one is there.
"But I thought you were going to help meeee!" Garnet whines.
"I am. I just needed to talk to Marco but I guess we can do the prayer while he comes back."
"We can?"
"Yes, I told you. It is a pretty simple incantation."
"Okay! Then let's do it!"
As she gets excited and cheers, I kneel on the floor.
I am going to eat first.
"Nooo!" She is dramatic.
"Oh stop it."
I eat as I try to not pay any mind to her complaints.
Once I am done, I signal to her. "Go get me a clear bowl with water." I tell her.
"Ah! Going, going!" She says and runs out of the office.
I start to set up everything on the floor. Then I hear footsteps behind me.
"What are you doing?" Marco asks.
"Oh! I was looking for you. I got the book."
"You did! Is this part of the spell for it?"
"No, this is for Garnet."
"Garnet?... you met her?"
"Hehe, yeah. I guess I didn't tell you. One of my natural abilities is to see things others can't. Like fairies even when they are invisible."
We suddenly hear some girls scream and run away in the hall. Before we can go check it out, a floating bowl with water dashes in the room but I can see it is Garnet.
"Oh my- Garnet! What have I told you?!" Marco says to her.
"I know, I know and I am sorry but right now, this is important and I can't wait anymore!" She hands me the clear bowl with water.
I take the book Metamorphoseon Libri XV and give it to Marco. "Here. We can work with that once I am done with this." I tell him.
He takes it and examines it while walking to his desk.
Garnet sits opposite from me as I put the bowl on the floor in front of her. I then scatter all the pure dirt around the bowl.
I take one of the flowers that is white. "Pass me a pair of scissors."
Garnet, with speed, takes a pair of scissors from Marco's desk and hands them to me.
I cut the stem of the flower and then place the flower on the bowl where it sits floating. The white flower and water represent purity."
I then scatter the rest of the flowers around the bowl on top of the dirt. "These, represent the earth."
Then I turn on the candle and I use old magic to do so. "Ishum." I mumble.
The candle turns on by itself.
Garnet puts her hands to her cheek in shock. "I thought you said you weren't a witch!"
"I am not but I can use words of power."
"Words of power?"
"Yes. They are ancient words that hold power that only beings of old can use but they are simple little things like turning on a candle."
I don't use words of power much, the magic comes from the earth and they are not as strong as they used to be anymore. Time changes everything.
She squints her eyes at me. "What are you?" She mutters.
I smile, ignoring her, and continue.
With the same word of power, I turn on the incense. "This simbolizes Air." I mutter.
"Prayers might seem like spells but you are actually talking to a powerful being and asking for their power instead of using spells to draw the power within you like witches do."
She interrupts. "Seriously! How do you know all this- Who are you?" She looks at Marco. "Who is she, Marco?"
Marco, who was watching us, lifts an eyebrow up. "She... is our librarian."
"Librarian my ass!"
"It doesn't matter. I am helping you, right?" I say.
She sighs. "Yeah, okay. Fine."
"Alright then. Now listen to me carefully. You are a being of the earth by nature. Your kind tends to worship the deity Terra or Gaia as she is also known. Mother of the Titans. Goddess of nature and Earth itself."
She looks at me with her eyes wide and blinking rapidly like she has no clue of what I speak of but I continue. "So you need to call to her. You have been cut off from this connection because of your modern upbringing like most magical creatures nowadays. You need to become aware of your connection with the earth. Think of mother nature's energies. Fire, water, air but most importantly for you, earth."
Again she looks at me like she has no clue of what I am saying.
I sigh. "Werewolves came from the moon goddess, right?" I ask and she nods. "You came from Terra. She is your maker."
She seems a bit surprised.
"Come on! Close your eyes!" I urge her.
She shakes her head and closes her eyes.
"Take a deep breath and do all I have told you."
She inhales and exhales.
My eyes drift to Marco who quietly and intently watches us. His eyes—something that hasn't happened in a long time—make me nervous.
I give my attention back to Garnet.
"Mentally reach to the center of the energy that is around us. Nature. Feel the energy rising through you. Reach out to that energy and let it swirl around you, cleansing and balancing your body, mind, and magic... and now, repeat these words....lady of flowers and new life, be born anew tonight." I stop the chanting. "Remember you are talking to Terra herself. Project an image as how you would see her in your head." I say and continue with the prayer. "Let what is unseen be seen and to my birthing form, take. Lady of the earth and new life, be born anew in me today. Let my magic flow through the earth and the earth flow through me so that I may connect to you. Let me hone my magic so that I can be seen, not unseen, to you, I pray this gift to give."
Garnet repeats everything I say.
"Again." I say when she finishes them. "Keep going until you feel it inside of you."
Four, five times she chants and now she is frustrated which is good because it means she now has emotions in her words... even if they are ager.
"Again!" I say. "Invision her in your head. Terra, Mother Earth as if you are in front of her speaking directly at her."
Garnet, with clenched teeth, chants again. I can feel the desperation behind her anger and this time when she is done with the chant, a gust of wind suddenly comes into the room, and Garnet gasps.
There are no windows opened so I know this is magical in nature.
"I... I feel... something." She opens her eyes. "I feel...this breath of air inside of me. It is cool yet... warm."
I can see the shivers on her skin.
"There it is." I say.
"But... I'm still invisible."
"Because this is new to you. You have just unlocked a part of yourself that you didn't know you had. It will take a bit of time but you will have the ability to do things at will. For now, do things as you are used to."
"It... takes hours and rest. " She says.
"Then go do that. The prayer is done."
"Oh my god!" She shouts and suddenly hugs me.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" She then gets up and almost flies out of the office.
I start laughing.
My eyes meet Marco's and he smiles.
"That was... good of you. Thank you." He says.
I smile. "No need to thank me. I like doing good."
"If only everyone was like you."
"There are many people like me. You are one of them." I tell him.
"Me? No, I don't think so."
"Yes, you are. This school and the people around you are proof of that. It would be so much easier for you to just be done with it all but yet, here you are still. Because you care and not just for the people that you know but also for those that you don't."
He quietly now stares at me. His eyes piercing mine. If we weren't standing so far away, I am not sure I would be able to control myself from grabbing him and giving him a kiss.
This gorgeous man... I want him... I know this. And I think that with him, I'd be ready to give in. But... I can see his hesitation when he turns and looks away. Breaking what we just had going on.
I know this man is hurt but I also know that time heals everything.
