Alpha Lucian

Chapter 7

The bell rang for lunch. The lecturer walked out of the class as they all urged him to leave. The student left one by one to the cafeteria. I put my books back in my bag. I have no friends to go to the cafeteria with. Everyone went in pairs, some with their friends while some with their lovers.

No one wanted to mingle with me since I was of low class. I've always stayed and been alone.

I stood up and went to get food in the cafeteria when a thought crossed my mind. I sat down back sluggishly and fiddled with my fingers nervously. Aveira went out of the class and she isn't back yet. Her minions are out of the class and I'm sure they are with her. What if they are planning something against me? What if they attack me on my way to the cafeteria?

Aveira is someone who won't let go of things easily. Lucian dismissed her then because of me and I'm sure she would be planning to get back at me. I'm not ready for any other embarrassment.

My stomach rumbled out loud. I'm hungry but what to do. I have no friends to accompany me. The thought of Aveira attacking me on my way to the cafeteria made my mind unsettled. I turned to look at Lucian's seat since I didn't see him walking out of the class. I saw him walking close to me with a smile. Why is he coming towards me?

"Hey." He greeted me as he walked closer to me. "Aren't you going to eat?" He asked. I tore my gaze away from him and stared at the class entrance. I just want to avoid his gaze at all costs. Why was he asking whether I wanted to eat? He never cared about me, why is he acting weird and caring all of a sudden. So deceptive!

"I am. What about you? Why are you not yet out?" I asked him.

"I'm about to go actually." He replied. I looked at him and nodded with a smile. If he had acted nice with me from the onset before I knew he was my Mate, I would have been so happy. I would be glad that my crush notices me but now, I feel no butterflies swarming in my tummy.

"I can accompany you to the cafeteria." He said with a smile. With him by my side, Aveira won't attack me.

"Yes. Thank you." I said immediately and stood up walking out with him. But Lucian won't save me everytime. I really have to be careful from now on since I'm on the Aveira blacklist.

We walked out in silence as he didn't utter a word to me. I really appreciated that because I don't want to have words with him. I'm sure he would want to talk about Alpha Gunner but I don't wanna talk about him or how I met him. He rejected me and I feel hatred for him now, not the usual crushy feelings for him. The hallway was silent as almost all the students were in the cafeteria while the ones left who met us together were gawking at us with surprise.

"I will stop here now. I have to be somewhere." He said to me and stopped walking. We were already close to the cafeteria when he stopped.

"Okay. Aren't you going to eat?" I asked with concern in my voice.

"I can have it ordered. I have to be somewhere urgently." He said with a smile probably because I asked him with concern. I nodded at him and proceeded to the cafeteria. I heard his retreating steps. I entered the cafeteria and bought my food. I sat on the table and ate my food alone and in silence. Everyone has a partner but I'm alone. Before, I would have had some people join me even though they might not talk to me or some might take pity on me being alone but since yesterday's incident, they all planned to ignore me like a plague. Not their fault actually.

The bell rang and everyone trooped out of the cafeteria. I followed them and mixed myself with the crowd as I walked towards the class. Aveira won't want to hurt me in front of a crowd. I know she can bully me whatsoever, but she wouldn't want to try it since it can bring you into the school bad record. A familiar pair of eyes stared at me from a corner and I recognized them as Aveira's. I looked at her in fear. She smirked at me and walked into the class. I breathed out in relief and fastened my pace to the class. I just hope I'm safe. Goddess… What have I gotten myself into?

We were done with school and I hung my bag on my shoulder going out of the class. Aveira didn't cross my path throughout today and I'm glad she didn't. I hope it will be that way for the rest of the term. If the bully gets too much from her, I'm hoping to change schools.

I strolled out of the school and saw my mates being carried with big cars. I'm sure when they get home, they will have all day to rest and maids to serve them food. Most of my mates are from rich and prestigious families. I flagged down a cab and hopped inside. I would have to prepare for my evening shift at work when I get home. I work at an electrical store to fund myself and my family. I live alone while my family lives in the remote part of the pack. I visit home when I'm on holiday.

When I got admitted to this school, I left my parents place and started living alone in the city. I spend the money I get from my workplace on my family as they depend on me while I get myself something with the remaining small amount. Their needs come first before mine and it has always been like that.

I got down from the cab and paid the driver. I enter my small comfortable home and head straight to the kitchen after dropping my bag in my room. I hope there's something at home for me to eat.

I found cornflakes in the fridge and decided to eat them before going to work. I brought out a bowl and prepared it. I sat down in the living room on the couch with my flakes and started eating it. I was going through my phone while eating and messages kept popping up on the school blog. I and Lucian were the trending news. Someone took a picture of Lucian escorting me to the cafeteria and posted it. People kept commenting on it; some bad, some wondering and a few not contributing to it. I was about to turn off the notification in anger when a call came in.

It's Gunner, Alpha Gunner. My heart beat rapidly as I stared at his name on my screen. What does he want now? I picked it up in a jiffy and placed it on my ear.

"Hey." He called out in his hoarse voice.

"Good afternoon Alpha." I greeted him.

"I said you can call me Gunner." He said, obviously annoyed. How does he expect me to interact with him on a friendly level?

"I'm sorry." I apologized. He scoffed out.

"Are you free this evening? I want to take you out. To know more about you." He asked.

"Mm.. I'm busy this evening. Can we make it on the weekend?" I replied to him.

"No problem then. Later!" He said and cut off the call.

I sighed in relief and dropped my phone on the couch. I gulped down my flakes and headed to my room to have a shower and prepare for work. I didn't want to tell Gunner about my financial status. I believe in working and helping myself. Why should I trouble him just because we are in a contract? Together. I took off my clothes and walked into the bathroom. I stood under the shower and enjoyed the cold water running through my body.

I will work and help my family instead of burdening him just because I have the chance to. I can't do that. He will think of me as a cheap girl or someone who thinks can take advantage of his money. I don't want that kind of thought towards me. I will just stick to the contract and give him a child. After that, I will get my reward for it which can come in money and so many expensive and valuable things.

I dressed up to work and took a cab there. I have friends there as all the workers are friendly and close to me. I'm always on the evening shift everytime I resume back to school. I walked inside and changed my dress to company clothes. The company has a different dress we would wear while working. I changed at the girls locker and headed out to start working.

The work was stressful but fun as you would gossip and gist with your friends. In school, I have no one to talk to and mind my business but here, I have tons of people to talk to with the customers. The workers and customers like me here for being friendly and pretty.

I was done with my shift late at night as we all changed back our dresses in the locker. Work was done for today and tomorrow is a new day. I packed up my things and walked out in the company of others while some stayed to lock the store.

"Good night Estina." They waved at me and I waved back. I boarded a cab home as I was already tired. We always end the shift at 10pm. And I always get home stressed out. The boss had to call and scold me for not coming yesterday. He demanded an explanation and I told him I was a bit down yesterday. He let it slide because I rarely miss work.

I got home and dropped on my bed like a log of wood. I stood up sluggishly and took off my clothes. I took a quick shower and laid on my bed. Tomorrow is a new day.

I took out my phone and went through the internet to know what was happening in the world and in town. I heard a cracking sound in the living room. I raised my head up and looked in the direction of the living room. I locked the door, I was sure I did. Hope it isn't the rat again?

I sighed and kept on scrolling through my phone. I heard footsteps and movement around the living room as I jerked up in alert. What is happening? My heart beat rapidly as I opened my door and stepped into the living room.

"Is someone there?" I said. Did someone break into my house? Oh My Goddess… There's nothing to steal from me. I have nothing important and valuable for them to take.

I gulped down in fear and saw the shadow of someone lurking around my kitchen. I took out my phone and turned on the flashlight in that direction and the light fell on someone. Someone in a black hoodie. I stepped back in fear and hurriedly turned on the living room light. Light shone brightly in the living room as I could see the person clearly. The person is a girl and looks familiar but the face is still unknown.

"Who are you? What do you want? I have no valuables for you to take from me." I said in fear. Two other guys came out and stood behind her. They look strong and deadly. The girl took off her face cap and I saw her face clearly. I staggered and my body hit a wall. I gasped in fear as tears threatened to fall from my eyes.

She smirked evilly at me as the guys moved closer to me with lustful eyes. "Aveira." I muttered.
