Aleksandr POV
“Goddess the music is so loud.” I groaned as we stepped into the pack house. Omegas began bowing left and right as they cleared a path for me. Fear was obvious on their face, but there was also relief. Maybe the other Alpha really wasn’t a very good one.
“Ah, Clover is over there.” Toras pointed towards a visibly drunk, long blonde-haired girl dancing with some random guy.
“I’m going to find the drinks. You go talk to her.” I said. My mind kept wandering to my mate. The terrified look on her face she always has.. wondering if she’s okay.. but I know the guards will mind link if something happens. So.. I need to calm down.
I tried so hard but I couldn’t help myself. I opened a link with Nik and spoke.
“Will you make sure she’s not hungry or something? I’ll send someone from the pack house.” I said. I didn’t want her eating hospital food when I have this pack house full of food.
“Yes, alpha.” There was silence for a few moments before he came back.
“She said she doesn’t need anything.” He said. I furrowed my brows and shook my head.
“I’ll send something anyways. Try to have her eat.” I said. She hadn’t eaten much since she’s been here. I closed the mind link and looked around until I found Mrs. Selby.
“Mrs. Selby.. Can you do something for me? I asked. She travels with us, and has become something like a mom to me.
“Ah yes, what can I do?” She asked.
“I need you to make your best dish and bring it to the hospital. I have to guards there who will be waiting to accept it from you.” I said.
“Yes, Alpha. May I ask who it’s for? What do they like or don’t like?” She asked.
“I.. I uh don’t know what she likes.. just.. make it simple.” I said. She eyes me suspiciously but nodded her head.
“I’ll have it done straight away, alpha.”
“Thank you, Selby.” I said and she gave me a smile before bowing her head and walking away.
Drinks, drinks, drinks. Where the f*ck are the drinks? Goddess Clover. This is supposed to be a party. I spotted an omega holding a bottle of whiskey and I whistled at him.
“Bottle,” I said. I held my hand out and he handed it to me without hesitation.
“Have you seen my sister anywhere around here?” I asked. He just shrugged his shoulders and shook his head.
“You’re free to go. Thanks for the bottle.” I said and turned around and walked off.
“Efim!” I growled through mind link. There was a moment of silence before his voice appeared through.
“Yes, Alpha?” He asks.
“What the h*ll is going on? I left you and Clover in charge!” I growled.
“Alpha, Clover she.. you know how she can be..”
“Maybe she should be Gamma then, instead of you..” I snapped, though I didn’t mean it. I just wanted him to stand up for himself for once in his life.
“Alpha,” he pleaded.
“I want the house cleared out and I want you and Clover cleaning this d*mned mess up. You have until sunrise to get it back to normal.” I growled.
“Yes, Alpha.” He replied. I cut the link and took a long drink of the whiskey.
Omegas cleared a path for me everywhere I went, ensuring that I could see just enough to find Toras arguing with Clover in the corner of the room. Sibling drama.
I walked over to them and the bickering between them stopped immediately.
“Alpha.” They said in unison.
“Clover..”
“I can explain!” She squealed as she hid behind her brother. Like that would do any good.
“I specifically told you no parties. I gave you this weekend.. did I not? Yet, you went behind my back while I was gone. When I left you in charge. Don’t think you’ll be in charge anytime soon again. And no off days from training. You’re lucky I’m not in the striking mood today.” I growled.
Striking is a form of punishment. The said prisoner is tied up in front of the pack, stripped of your shirt and you’re whipped with different kinds of whips for as many times as the Alpha sees fit. I don’t take law-breaking easily, and this keeps them in line.
“Yes, Alpha. Thank you for not striking me.” She whimpered and bowed her head. The music cut off soon after, and people began moving out of the packhouse.
“Sunrise,” I growled at Clover. She bowed her head once again and started cleaning up the filth.
“Did you ever find the drinks?” Toras asked from behind me. He walked passed me and leaned against the wall facing me.
“I found this. But that’s it.” I groaned.
“I’m pretty sure I have a hidden bottle in my room if you want it.” He said. I thought about it for a moment before nodding my head.
“Yeah, I’ll take it,” I said. His eyes glazed over and within a few seconds an omega screwed down with a bottle of deep brown liquid.
“Thanks,” I said. I downed the last bit of the bottle Ali had and sat it down, then opened the new bottle.
“Let’s go to my office,” I said. I grabbed a glass out of the kitchen and walked toward the stairs.
••••••••••••••••••••
“I don’t want the pack knowing I’ve found my mate just yet,” I said. I sat the bottle down on my desk and walked to my chair.
“Not many know, they’ve all been kept on the quiet for now.” He said.
“A third of the warriors know. That’s not a little. So.. Let them know that anyone who shares this news will be punished severely. Anyone who’s caught gossiping, mind linking.. I don’t care. I will make them regret it.” I said. I lifted the cup to my lips and drank the burning liquid.
“Yes, Alpha. I’ll do a group mind link in the morning.” He said.
“No.. I’ll do it. I want this to come directly from me.” I said.
“Okay. I have to say it, man, as a friend.. I don’t know if this thing with you and the Luna is going to work because of her.. circumstances.. but having Minerva work in your quarters with the Luna is not a good idea. I’m telling yo-“
“Why? What is wrong with Minerva? Is it because I’ve slept with her? She knows that’s over and will never happen again. And if she ever tries, I’ll make it quite clear.” I said.
“Okay.. I won’t fight with you on it. But I’m telling you, it’s a bad idea.” He said.
“Fine, you know what. I’ll give Minerva a week's trial. If it goes well, she can stay. If not, she can stay with her present work. She’s just the only one who actually pays attention to detail when it comes to cleaning and time.” I said.
“Yeah she is pretty OCD when it comes to cleaning, isn’t she?” Toras said. I nodded my head and threw out my hands as if saying “my point exactly.” I reached for the bottle and poured another glass.
“You said you didn’t know if my mate and I would make it. Do you think I’m cursed? 25 years of scouring the earth. Only to stumble upon a girl who’s been lost in the middle of nowhere for months. She made a camp around dead people because she was afraid to go anywhere else. Does that make me cursed?” I asked. I emptied the glass in an entire swallow and poured another.
“No. I think.. maybe the moon goddess picked her for a reason. She’s scared of quite literally everything. You’re the most dangerous Alpha to walk the Earth. No one is never scared around you. Maybe scared of you. But your protection means immunity basically. Your packs trust you with their lives.” He said. A snort flowed from my mouth as I chuckled.
“Immunity” I copied him. He rolled his eyes and sat down.
“What I’m saying is. You can keep her safe. You have so many options for getting her any help she needs. But if she’s so afraid of you.. you can’t do any of that. I don’t know.. you’re mates. She’ll feel the bond and things with start looking good. It will work.” He said. I couldn’t tell if he was trying to convince me, or himself.
Goddess, I can’t do this. I can’t be away from her I need to get back.
