"You know there are a few more days left till you get divorced Cain! Are you not going to talk to Malacca about this?" His mother asked. "Whats there to talk about mother? I haven't yet gotten divorced to my wife. Have I?" "You need to start making arrangements son. I do not like that current wife of yours, you know that. I never did and I never will." She snapped at him in a calm tone. "Mom what if I do not want to divorce Mariah?" "What do you mean son. I'm your mother therefore you must abide by everything I say or there is no inheritance for you." She threatened. Cain smiled and put his hands on her shoulders. "Mother! Who says everything in the world has to be about wealth. Did you ask me before writing me in your will? Did I say I want any of your inheritance? Why do you always have to think you're obligated to make choices for me at my age. His mother did not reply except looking into hid eyes and looking away. "Why don't you like Mariah? " he asked her. "Are you th one to tell me whom I should and shouldn't like?" She asked him. "Mother you know that's not what I meant. I just want to know what makes you not approve of Mariah." "Son, I care about you and I don't want to see you ruin your life." She said in an angry tone. "How am I running my life by being with Mariah!" He seemed angry this time. More like perplexed that his mother would have such a perception about his wife. "Son Mariah does not deserve you! She comes form a poor family and she her esteeme is not up to our standards. She's not fit to be your wife!" "Yet you sranged my marriage with her deceased sister Amirah!" He went on to comment. "To you Amirah was perfect, she was the ideal daughter so much that you would prefer her over Malacca yet her very sister who came from the same house, who lived under the same roof with her and ate from the same table is suddenly too poor to be my wife? Love your logic mother!" He said as he clapped his hands. "I don't want to talk about this again Cain. With Amira, I was being considerate with you. I allowed you to marry that low life, low class girl for the sake of your love. But now that you took her sister as a second wife I was so displeased. In our culture a grown-up child lets his or her parents choose a spouse for him or her but us..." She gulped in rage. "But us Cain, we let you choose whom you wanted as a life partner. We did not force you or make you feel obliged to marry anybody of our choice!" "What if I don't want to divorce Mariah?' He asked her. "Then you pack your bags and leave! Also make sure to never ever talk to me ever again. What kind of a son are you?" "And what kind of a mother are you? Asking you son to divorce his only wife." "The four months you had been issued by the court of law are over. Its time to leave that girl Cain. It won't look good showing up in public with someone like her!" "Someone like her? Mother seriously, how could you say something like that?" He said. "Cain, child. You're too naive. Sometimes you have to do what you're expected to not what your heart wants. These low class girls are known to play tricks on rich men, Dont you think Mariah is happy to have trapped a rich billionaire's son like you. She is neither your class nor of your taste so leave her, for good." She said. "So you know my taste now mother? You're going to tell me whom and whom not to love? Wow mother!" "Hey, why's going on here, is this how you speak to your mother son?" His father asked as he came down the stairs. "Father, you haven't heard what your wife said to me if you did then maybe you wouldn't be taking her side." Cain raged. "So you would choose that woman, that stranger over your own mother?" His mother looked betrayed. She was more hurt than angry. Cain told his dad everything his mother had said and done. He was also angry. Now the time had come for Mariah to go. The divorce papers had to be signed. She brought them that afternoon. Mariah knew this day had been looming. Malacca too was anxious because this was the day that would decide her fate from then on. Whether she would marry Cain or not. " Well ,other since it seems you haven't accepted Mariah with your whole heart it seems I will have to move out with her then." Malacca was there the whole time listening to the conversation along with the others including me. She stood up and blurted out. "But you said you would marry me! Cain! How are you planning to do that when you're still married to her?Are you going to go back on your word? Or have you planned to make me a second wife as well like you did to her?" "Malacca, that was a long time ago when I wasn't married. We were younger then. You your self know so much has happened from then on. So how can you still bring up this marriage question?" He grunted. " Cain, you were promised to me. Our family made a pact and deal that we would marry when we were older. We were betrothed. Us , together. So how can you be with her? How dare you reject me!?!" She burst into tears and collapsed on the floor and wept bitterly. He went up te stairs and took about a while and came back down with suitcases and bags. Everybody stood up and let out gasps of shock. Gossip circulated amongst the family members. "Cain please don't go!" Malacca knelt on the ground. " I love you Cain! Please stay!"
