Chapter 12
I must have fallen asleep, because the next thing I remember was Carmen waking me up. Not gently, mind you, ‘cause she was shaking me like her life depended on it. I hadn’t intended to fall asleep, but I was so mentally exhausted that a few moments of rest on the couch turned into a full-blown nap.
“Have you done it yet?” She kept asking in between shakes. “Have you gone through with it?”
“No, not completely. Something was missing.”
Carmen stopped shaking me long enough to shudder. “Do I want to know?”
I shook my head. Carmen plopped herself on the couch. “Ok, then there is still time.”
“Time for what?” I asked, still mostly asleep.
“Time to stop you two. Look, I know that you have questions that you need answered, but are you prepared for what might happen. We may never
