“You’re saying nonsense!”
As soon as Sharron finished speaking, a loud shout rang out, and the person was none other than me.
What was he blabbering about? How could he splash this dirty water onto my mother like that? I firmly believed that my mother would do nothing wrong behind my father’s back, and she would do nothing to harm our family.
I rushed forward, genuinely wanting to hit Sharron, but at that moment, my mother quickly pulled me back.
“Yuri!”
I turned back to look at my mother, and she shook her head at me, showing for me not to misbehave.
At this point, my mother’s eyes were also red, and she turned to look at my father earnestly, saying:
“Donovan, you don’t know about this. You don’t know what he’s talking about. I really have nothing to do with him...”
“That’s right, maybe Sharron is just spouting nonsense to shift blame. Luna Fiona could never cheat, let alone be affectionate with a traitor.” Damian added, his voice firm and assertive.
I looked at my father, waiting for his response. He would surely believe my mother, definitely. Their marriage had lasted nearly twenty years, and my mother had always been devoted to our family, having no other intentions, even forgiving my father when he had an affair.
But amidst this chaos, I don’t know if I was seeing things or not, but I noticed my father was very calm, almost as if he knew everything beforehand.
I shook my head vigorously, trying to calm myself down.
“Alice, did I misunderstand?”
I anxiously asked my mother.
“Yuri, I feel the same way. Your father... he has a strange look in his eyes...”
At this point, my father spoke up:
“Sharron, don’t you dare accuse my wife unjustly. You must be plotting something? If you don’t speak the truth, I’ll tear you apart!”
His tone was fierce, angry, but clearly not as intimidating as when Sharron was first brought here.
Sharron, with a cunning look in his eyes, laughed, a mad and sinister laugh like the sound of a rusty machine, then turned to my mother and said:
“Fiona, don’t deny it anymore. We’ve agreed together. If the assassination succeeds, I’ll be the King, and you’ll be the Queen, we’ll enjoy wealth and prosperity together, and if not, we’ll escape together. Have you forgotten? We promised to stand by each other, whether we’re rich or poor. The one who betrays the oath will go to hell.”
“You... you’re talking nonsense!”
My mother trembled, pointing at Sharron, truly crying out of panic. I saw that and quickly hugged my mother. Then, my mother kicked me away and knelt down in front of my father.
“Donovan, believe me, I really have done nothing wrong to you, even if I had the intention, I haven’t...”
“Father, Mother is truly innocent. Someone else has manipulated Sharron to tear our family apart...” I affirmed, but before I could finish my sentence, a shout cut me off.
“Shut up!”
I was shocked.
Shocked because my father had shouted at me, and he seemed to believe Sharron’s words.
At this moment, Loid, who had been silent until now, stepped forward, lifting Sharron’s chin, and spoke up:
“Are you telling the truth? You wouldn’t falsely accuse someone else, would you?”
“Yes, I’m willing to take my life to ensure it.” Sharron swore.
Seeing him so daring, I was also afraid, but I still believed in my mother. Regardless of anything, I still believed she was innocent.
“General Loid, please, please investigate this again. Absolutely, my mother is not that kind of person.”
Tears welled up in my eyes, my nose stung, and I looked at Loid, pleadingly. But he didn’t even bother to look at me.
“If that’s the case, immediately take Luna Fiona into custody.”
“No!”
Under Loid’s order, the soldiers wanted to come and arrest my mother. But I immediately shouted and stood in front of her.
“No one may come here!”
I was desperate. My tears finally fell, and I trembled, biting my lip.
“Yuri...” My mother also cried, then she grabbed my father’s collar.
“Donovan, don’t you trust me? What was the point of our years together? I’ve always been devoted to our family, never betraying you, never anyone else.”
“That’s enough. A woman like you doesn’t deserve forgiveness. If you’re smart, admit your mistake. General Loid will surely show mercy and spare your life. At most, you’ll become a slave. But if not, no one can save you. Stop sullying my face here.”
Listening to my father’s mocking and derogatory words towards my mother, I was extremely shocked. How could he believe such things from an outsider so easily? After all, we’re a family. Why wouldn’t he have even a bit of a desire to protect my mother?
In a moment of despair, I saw the gun at my father’s waist, and I turned, grabbed it, then pointed it straight at my head.
“If you dare to come closer, I’ll die right here for you all to see!”
“Yuri!”
“Yuri, do nothing foolish!”
This was the first time I held a gun. I didn’t even know where to put my hands properly. My hands were trembling. Despite summoning all the courage to threaten others with my life, I actually didn’t have the guts to pull the trigger. I cried. It was the first time I cried in front of others since becoming an adult. My hands were shaking and cold sweat trickled down the back of my neck.
My father stared at me, extremely angry, never expecting me to be so audacious. Meanwhile, my mother hurriedly grabbed my dress, her eyes filled with extreme panic.
Facing Loid, I looked straight at him. My actions had successfully drawn his attention. He looked at me, his gaze cold and somewhat disdainful. Then, step by step, he approached me.
He was like the Grim Reaper, each step carrying a chilling breath. I swallowed hard, my steps involuntarily stumbling backward.
“General, please spare my daughter. She’s still naïve and knows nothing. If you want to arrest me, then go ahead.”
My mother pleaded with Loid, but he seemed not to hear. He continued to advance towards me.
“Don’t come any closer, or I’ll shoot!”
In despair, I shouted.
“If you’re capable, then shoot.”
He released each word as if challenging me. In my heart, I felt both cold and furious. Why was this person so heartless? Didn’t he have a heart? Why was there no trace of mercy on him?
I closed my eyes tightly and finally squeezed the trigger.
