Chapter 2

Mimi

"I need to have a word with you. Meet me after office" I said over the call.

"Let's catch up for lunch in my office" David replied over the call.

"Okay. I'll be there in a minute" I said and disconnected the intercom.

I picked all the completed files and called Li to complete the remaining documents.

As I was about to walk out of my office, my intercom started ringing again.

"Hellow"

"Ma'am there is a child who is asking for you. She said you know her" the receptionist said.

"What! Who is it?" I wonder who can it be.

"Mimi its me. come down"

"Andrea!? What the hell are you doing here" how can that be possible.

"My school was over so I came here" she said with a oh-so-ovious tone.

"You were suppose to wait for Emily. How did you even get her?" this girl will be the death of me!

"She was late so I called papa David and then he did some magic with his black car and bought me her" Andrea replied with a dreamy voice.

"All right. I'll come and get you. Wait there" I said and immediately disconnected the call.

I rushed towards the elevator and pressed the ground flood. Soon enough I was walking towards the reception and saw her combing her doll's hair.

"Andrea, I told you not to come alone like this. When will you listen to me" I scolded her but then she gave me her favourite puppy face.

And as usual, I lost it.

"Come here. Don't do this again okay?" I said taking her in my arms.

"I promise Mimi" she said and hugged me tight.

I closed my eyes to feels her warmth. She was still so tiny and cute. She has this cute black curls, small pointed nose and pretty dimples. She was really a beauty with her pale complexion and small frame. She'll be turning five soon.

Looking at her makes me feel how time flies and how my baby grew up so fast.

"Can I meet papa David?" she asked cutely.

I just smiled and walked back to the elevator and pressed the top floor towards David's office.

As soon as I opened his office door, Andrea jumped out of my arms and ran towards David.

"Papa David" she yelled.

"My princess" David said and scooped her in his arms.

Andrea gave him a bright smile and hugged him tight. They look so cute together. David has always been a great dad to her and Andrea was definitely a dad's princess.

"How was school baby?" he asked and got back to his seat and so did I to hear about her school. Andrea was sitting on his lap and pushed back her bag.

She was searching for something in her school bag while we both were waiting curious.

"Look I made this" she said and held out a drawing.

It looked funny but we could certainly understand it.

"This is me, papa David, Mimi, Emily, Grandma and Grandpa" she said point on each of the figures.

"Oh my baby! This is so beautiful" David said and kissed her forehead.

"But papa David, Daniel was laughing at me. He said I don't have a mamma" she said holding him tight.

I still didn't figure out how am I suppose to answer her questions. We all have been lying to her for years and I really don't know how long can we keep that up.

"My princess is smart. Didn't you tell them that your mommy is a shinning star. She looks at you all the time, even when we don't" David explained the same thing. Again and again.

"But I wanna meet her. Daniel's mommy takes him to the park, feeds him chocolate, scolds him and even makes cake for him. I need a mommy" she said stubbornly.

"Mimi and Emily does all of that for you as well. Mimi even sleeps with you and tell you bedtime stories" David tried explaining again but I could see Andrea's glossy eyes.

She jumped out of David's lap and came to me looking at my hands. I took her in my arms because I knew what was coming.

"Mimi can be my mommy" she said hugging me close.

I don't know how to answer that so I just hugged her back. I could feel the tears touching my cheeks.

Andrea is my only strength and weakness. I have made it through all this years because of her but I know she is still not safe and I have to protect her no matter what.

"Hon, Emily must be worried. I need to take you back home now. You need a good sleep and delicious food. Guess what Grandma made for you!" I tried diverting her attention.

"Brownies!!" she yelled happy. immediately she moved towards David to got her bag and ran towards the door.

I picked up my bag amd was about to leave when David stopped me.

"You can't do this to her. She will know sooner or later. Let's start fresh. You, me and Andrea. Marry me Mimi" he said. This was not the first time he said that.

I knew David was in love with me but I can't do it. I'm really trying to but it's hard.

I don't believe in love anymore. I lost everyone I loved and now I'm just an empty shell. Andrea and Emily is the only person who is keeping me alive.

"You already know my answer" I replied plainly.

"And you know my answer to that as well" he said.

"There is no point in waiting for me. I'm not ready for anything" I am so tired of this discussion.

"But Andrea needs a family and only you can give that to her" he said and I knew I have nothing to say against it.

I walked out of his office and found Andrea waiting for the elevator.

We both soon reached the parking spot and hoped in the car.

I dropped her home and called Emily on the way. I was driving back to the office when suddenly an unknown number called.

"Hellow?"

"Naomi? Its me Jane" she said.

"Jane?! is that really you? Oh my god! I can't believe it. How are you?" I asked with full of excitement.

"At last I caught you. I'm so fine and sexy. You'll be drooling over me" Jane said with a funny tone.

It's been 5 long years, it still feels the same. My bestie was still the same. The best part of all is that she is happy and soon gonna marry my other friend.

"So how has it been going with you and Gabi" I said. I couldn't keep my smile hidden. I'm truly happy about her.

"Oh hell yeah!! I'm f*****g getting married. And I hope you are coming" Jane said the last part with hesitation.

I know she really wants me to come but then I'm still not sure how safe it would be going back home.

"Who is it honey?" I heard Gabi say over the call.

"It's Naomi" Jane replied and immediately I could hear ruffling sound.

"Naomi? Is that really you?" Gabi asked shocked.

"Yes it's me Gabi. How have you been doing?" I asked.

I have missed them. I know it was wrong of me to leave and not let anyone from my past come back to my life. Now when I think about everything, I really missed them. Each and every day I missed their nagging and care.

"We are good. Are you coming? You know Jane has been waiting for you" Gabi said.

"I really don't know Gabi. I'm still not sure"

"How long are you planning on bailing out on us?" he said in a grumpy way.

"I have a lot of work and then home and everything. I don't think I can make it" I hope he buys my reasons.

"You still need to work on your lies. It's still pretty unbelievable" he said laughing. Damn it!!

"Whatever you think. It's just that I can't make it"

"It's your best friends wedding. She has been telling me how you guys promised to be at each other's wedding. Don't break her heart Naomi" Gabi said. I could understand the desperation from his voice.

To be honest, I want to go as well but I'm not quite sure how things will go. I'm still not ready to face that city.

"I'll let you know soon. I promise"

"Don't take a lot of time. This women didn't even select her dress. She is waiting her best friend" I could literally imagine Gabi quoting the word best friend with his fingers.

"I'll let you know soon. I hope you won't mind if I bring a company with me" David will be a lot of help for me.

"Damn girl!! I wanna meet this guy you are dating. Hell!! he needs to prove himself as well" Gabi said seriously.

The same old protective brother instinct.

"He is my boss and friend, that's all. Don't make stupid scenes on your head"

"Whatever he is. He needs to deal with me first"

"Whatever. I'll let you know about my plans. Bye. I need to get back to work" I said not being able to entertain his ass.

"As you wish your majesty!" he said dramatically and disconnected the call.

I immediately called Emily to ask her about her upcoming schedule. she was pretty much free the next week so I think I can make it.

The only thing left is to ask David.

He doesn't even like the city after everything. Would he wanna go? Would he let me go? Would he at least take leave?

Aaaahhhh!

No point thinking about it. I'll just ask him today.
