Chapter 1

Andrew

"I'm sorry sir. We still didn't get anything" a man in a disappointing voice said.

"I'm too used to that statement. Don't come back here until you get something new to say" the men in brown suit replied dismissing him.

The man looked nothing like Andrew Matthew once known. His hair was messed up, unshaved beard, dark circles under his eyes showing the lack of sleep.

As the man was sitting in his office looking at the ceiling, thinking about his lost love.

"Where are you babygirl? Please come back to me. I'm so lost without you" as these words left his lips, tears rolled down his cheeks.

*flashback*

"Oh you are already sneaking out. That's good. I hope he paid you good" Tracy said making me stunned.

I went towards the door to see the most horrific scene. This can't be happening. I can't let Naomi be her target. I have to save her.

We both looked but I didn't dare say anything. For the first time I felt helpless and lost. I wanted to say something that would make her believe my love.

Did she heard everything?!

"Will you say something" Naomi begged.

I just wanted to hold her and tell her it will be over and that whatever she is looking at, doesn't mean anything but what I said next broke both our heart.

"Your work is done so leave. Come Tracy" I said and pulled Tracy towards the stairs. I didn't turn back. I knew if I did I would be devastated looking at my love leaving.

I know I'll make things right but for now I need to take care of Tracy. I can't let Naomi be her next target.

'I'll come for you babygirl. Please just wait for me' I prayed.

*Flashback*

"Why didn't you wait for me babygirl?! I'm sorry. I'm so f*****g sorry. Please come back. Please come back" Andrew said breaking down completely.

He was crying his heart out when Ivan came inside his office.

Looking at his state, Ivan came rushing towards him and hugged him.

"Why did this happen? Why did I lose her? Why did she leave? I love her Ivan and it pains. It f*****g pains me. Why me Ivan? Why me?" Andrew yelled pouring all his pain.

"I'm sorry. It was all my fault. I couldn't understand your true feeling. I destroyed your only hope. I'm so sorry Andrew" Ivan said remembering his mistake.

"You do believe that it wasn't me right? You know I wouldn't have done such a dirty thing" Andrew asked desperately.

"I know it wasn't you. I should have known this better. I don't know why did I even doubt you. Everything was just against you and when I discovered the truth, she was long gone" Ivan blamed himself for not being the friend Andrew deserved.

"What should I do now Ivan? When will I find her? Is she still alive? Will I ever see her again?" Andrew asked standing up from his seat and pacing around his office.

"I know we will Andrew. We will find her. Don't lose hope brother. We will find her soon" Ivan tried to comfort him. He himself wasn't sure whether they will find her or not.

"Just calm down. We have already send five guys for her search. They will find her. Just focus on your work. Do you think she will like it if you neglect your work?" Ivan knew this will definitely work.

Andrew looked at his files closely and immediately took his seat to get back to work.

Andrew knew this was the least he could do to cover the void in his heart.

Third person

"Good morning ma'am"

"Good morning Livya. Please send the finance report in my office immediately and David has called for a meeting so set it up with my schedule" the woman in her professional tone said.

"Okay Ma'am"

The women entered the "COO" cabin like a queen. Her short blond hair fixed in a bun. A cream coloured suit complimented her complexion. And the usual serious look on her face.

She gracefully sat on her chair when suddenly her intercom started ringing.

Beep.

"Mimi can we schedule the meeting for an hour later?" someone said from the line.

"You have known me for the last 5 years and still dare to ask me this. Don't waste my time, David" she replied sternly.

"Babe, you know even I'm stuck. Please just for once" David requested.

She thought for a while.

"Fine!" she said and disconnected the call.

"Here is your coffee and the files" Livya said entering her office.

"Thank you Li. Can you schedule the meeting an hour later?" Mimi asked looking at the file.

"Sure. Anything else Mi?" Livya said with a bit hesitation.

"Do you need a leave again?" Mimi asked.

"How did you know?" Livya asked. She didn't even mention anything yet.

"You called me Mi. Now tell me why do you need a leave?" Mimi asked going through her emails.

"I don't really need a leave. It's just that today I'll be meeting his family. So?" Livya was aware how much it irked Mimi whenever she took leave because of her bf James.

"Okay but I want you to complete all your work before you leave" Mimi said still scrolling through her laptop.

"Okay Ma'am" Livya was pleased. As she was walking towards the door, Mimi spoke again.

"Don't make a man so important in your life. He can disappoint you but your work won't" she said.

Livya was aware of her displeased attitude towards guys but never dared to ask why.

"Yes ma'am" she said and left.

What Mimi said was true. She learnt it in a hard way so she didn't want Livya to go through the same thing she went through.

With a deep sighed she started going through all the documents in her office when she noticed a card.

It looked like an envelope, But not the usual official one. It looked more like an invitation. With much curiosity, she opened it to see a beautiful baby pink card.

Jane & Gabriel

Date: 25 October

Time: 5:00pm

Venue: St Adam's Church, East Middle Zone, New York-

There was a small note as well.

'Remember when we were kids, we promised each other that we'll be each other's maid of honor in our wedding. I'm still hoping you would keep that promise'

Mimi immediately dialled the only person who could have send it to her.

"Hellow?" the person on the other side said.

"Did you tell Jane and Gabriel my office address?" Mimi enquired.

"No I didn't. I promised you. Jane came last night and asked me to give it to you. She really wants you there" Chris said.

"I know" Mimi was quite for sometime.

She would have loved to be with her but she can't go back to that place. New York was her past which she has buried long ago.

"How long you gonna keep everyone away from you? This isn't right! Jane was your best friend and Gabriel was like a brother. Don't do this! Don't punish them for someone else" Chris said.

"I wouldn't have even meet you. Your lucky ass got you in my office" Mimi said thinking about their encounter 3 years back.

*flashback*

"Mimi and David, You need to get this contract any how. It will be one of our biggest achievement so please give your best" Mr. Macboon said.

"Don't worry Sir. We will definitely get this contract. I promise" Mimi replied with determination.

"Okay let's go then" David said and they both walked towards the conference room.

Both entered the room and took their seats.

As Mimi was preparing for the presentation, she didn't notice those shocked eyes staring at her.

She stood up to start her presentation when she notice the person.

"Chris!!"

"Naomi!!"

"How?" both said in the same time.

*flashback*

"That's true but then you see I kept my promise and didn't tell anyone about you" Chris said proudly.

"You told Jane and Gabriel about me" Mimi accused.

"How many times I have to tell you that it was just a slip of tongue. Just forget that and tell me you are going or not?" Chris asked.

"I don't know. I'll let you know" she said.

"Don't miss this opportunity to get back what you lost. I'll be waiting" Chris said and disconnected the call.

Mimi walked towards her huge glass wall and looked down towards the city.

All the memories came rushing to her mind. It's been almost 5 years, but the pain still feels fresh. She still remembers her struggle from Naomi Johnson to Mimi Macboon.

She changed her identity, she changed her appearance, she changed her surroundings, she changed her attitude. She did everything she could to get over her pain but here she was, standing and thinking about him again.

She sat back and started working on her file. Her words kept repeating in her head.

"Don't make a man so important in your life. He might disappoint you, but your work won't"
