Chapter 13: Helena found it hard to leave the comfort and warmth inside the ship. The weather had grown bitter cold. The need to travel higher than the mountains drove the temperature even lower. Heavy weather clothing was needed to venture outside. No matter how many layers Helena put on, she could not find warmth. There were times she felt she would never be warm again. Even inside the skin of the ship, the heaters struggled to keep the spaces warm. The cargo hold was particularly cold. Helena would not be surprised if the water in Bessie’s brass tank froze. The Legend had been deep in the mountains for several days without seeing the ground. Only an occasional snow-capped peak poked from under the clouds.
