Chapter 12: Doyle’s travels had been one struggle after another. The morning after he escaped the mission, he stopped by the stream and inspected the wound on his side. It was deep enough for his fingertips to touch the bone of his rib. It could have been much worse. It could have cut deeper into the muscle under his arm, causing a great deal of blood loss. Thank goodness the bone stopped the blade. It hurt like hell and made deep breaths nearly unbearable. Climbing the trail ahead would be difficult with this wound. A quick scan behind him and he spotted drops of blood on the rocks. It was a trail a novice could follow. He needed to bandage himself quickly and keep moving. A strip from the blanket wrapped around his shoulders made a decent wrap for his rib wound. He tightened it to sto
