Chapter 6

"Please say something." I heard Helena's uncertain voice. I look at her, shocked. "Are you insane? How could I pretend to be you? Are you out of your mind?" I told her hysterically. "Listen to me first, we have the same face. They will never know that it's you, they will look at you the way they look at me." I shake my head in disbelief. How can she say such things? What if her parents will notice? Or what if her friends will suspect me that I am not Helena? "Our eyes are different," I said, she smiled at me. "You can use a contact lens. We can do a makeover on you to fully look like me. Can't you see? We're twins!" she said cheerfully. Again, I shook my head fiercely. I do not want to believe that I was adopted since the reality hurts. I did not want to know whether she was my twin sister since it hurt so much knowing that my mother never told me I had a sibling. And why the heck was she not with us? Well, I cannot ask my mom because I do not want to put pressure on her to answer all of my questions. Perhaps she had a reason for not telling me about my twin sister. The most important thing I can do is patiently wait for when she will open up to me. I will do my best to figure out her feelings. I know Helena saw the reluctance on my face because she forced a smile and dropped her gaze to the table. "It's okay if you don't want to help me, she mumbled sadly and played with her fingers. She looks so vulnerable right now. I don't know what's her life story or what she's been through but I wanted to help her. "Please don't misunderstand me, Helena, I wanted to help you but I don't understand why you want me to pretend to be you," I said confused. She looks at me as if she's ready to cry. "I just want to be free Savannah; I want to spend more time with Logan." I felt pity for her but was disturbed at the same time. Did her parents don't like her boyfriend? Are they not official and still secretly dating? But she's at the right age now. She can decide or do whatever she wants. Well, except if her parents are so strict and demanding of whatever decision she makes. That's the problem with being rich, you have all the money but you're not happy. I sighed and held her hands. "I want to help you but I can't always pretend to be you, Helena." I sympathized with her. Her eyes brightened and smiled at me. She also held my hands. "Does it mean you agree?" I nodded. "Oh my! Thank you so much, Savannah!" she exclaimed happily, then stood up and approached me. She gave me a warm hug. I reciprocated her hug. I don't know why I feel happy for her. "I promise you I will help your mom and other expenses so that you won't get worried when you're still pretending." I can see the excitement on her face. "Is that necessary? You don't have to-" "No, Savannah. I told you; I insist. And you will be pretending to be me in just three months." My jaw dropped on the floor after hearing what she said. Three months? I can't... "Three months? Oh, Helena, I think I can't pretend that longer," I said worriedly. "Okay two months, please just say yes." She looks so hopeful at her request. Two months is still long. I think about it but I can't decide either. But if I said yes, she would help my mom. I bit my lower lip and said, "When will I start?" Her eyes went wide and her face brightened. She hugged me again. She was acting weird and ecstatic. I don't know why I trusted her. Maybe because we have the same face, maybe because I felt something for her like a sisterly bond? "Thank you so much Savannah, you won't regret helping me," she promised. "You will start tomorrow." "If I pretend to be you in just two months, I can't leave my work just like that..." "I will pay you, Savannah. Please don't worry about it. We only have three days; I need you to come with me tomorrow." "Why are you in a hurry?" I curiously asked. "I need to spend time with Logan. We're planning to go to Italy." "You were not going to elope, right?" I asked in a doubtful voice. "If only it's possible, why not?" she answers and gives me a sad look. I furrowed my eyebrows. What does she mean by that? Are her parents strict? After our conversation, she drove me home safely. My mom waited for me in the living room. When she saw me, I saw relief fill her worried face. "Hi, mom." I greeted her and I sat down beside her. "How's the meeting with your friend?" "It's fine. She offered me a job." My eyes dropped to the floor. I can't look at her directly. "And then?" "I can only go home every weekend but I will call you if I am not busy. Can you manage alone?" I asked her sadly; I looked at her. She smiled at me faintly. "You've done so much for me, Anna and I am very blessed to have you. Don't worry about me, I will call your Auntie Martha to be with me." There's an assurance in her voice that I do not need to worry. "I'm starting tomorrow," I muttered. "How about your previous job?" "Don't worry about it, mom. Please call Auntie Martha to come here tomorrow." She nodded and caressed my face. "Just focus on your new work, okay? Call me if there's an emergency," she said, worried. "I will miss you." I hugged her so tightly as if this was our last conversation. I can't bear to lose her; I love her so much that I'm willing to sacrifice for her. "Don't forget to take your medication Mom and you know that I already deposited the money in your account, right? And please don't skip your monthly check-up." I reminded her. She nodded and smiled at me. The next day, I was with Helena, and we stayed in a five-star hotel. She said that within three days we would stay in the hotel. She hired someone to fix my hair, my make-up, and my dress, and we went to the spa, to have a body massage. "I am not used to wearing high-heeled shoes Helena," I said frustratedly. We've been practicing for almost 2 hours and still, I always tripped when I walked. Not to mention the dress I wear, so uncomfortable. I already have a full-blown-out makeover and right now we look alike. "Practice makes perfect Savannah, you need to act just like me or else they will-" "Okay, I get it. Let's practice again." I cut her off. I'm tired and frustrated. "If you want, we can practice later." She shrugged her shoulders. I looked at her thankfully and nodded my head. I'm glad she's being considerate right now. I sat on the bed while she sat on the couch. "Is there something I need to know or someone I need to know? What I mean is a specific person, like your best friend, parents, or someone else..." I asked while massaging my sore feet. I need to be aware of the people she's around to avoid trouble. She smiled at me awkwardly and she stood up. She walked uncomfortably to the glass window in the room. She looks at the beautiful view outside. It's getting dark, that's why there are so many lights coming from the buildings. "I don't have many friends and you will meet my parents soon." Her voice is like a whisper to me, so weak and uncertain. "What if I do not recognize your parents? Do I have to see their picture?" She turned around and looked at me. "It's not necessary, you will recognize them if you see them." I nodded my head and asked her again, "Do you have a job? What if I don't know how to handle your job?" Now, I am worried. This is harder than I thought. "I don't have a job, I don't work," she answered flatly. Wow! She's very lucky. Maybe that's her privilege of being rich. I shook my head unbelievably. "All you need to do is stay at home, go shopping, travel anywhere, go to the spa. You can do whatever you want, money isn't a problem," she said, as if it was not a big deal. My mouth slightly opened. Is she that rich? I wondered. "Here, take this and keep it. That's your own money if you pretend to be me." She handed me a black card. I accepted it out of curiosity. This is the first time I have seen a card like this. It seems that only rich people can use this kind of card. I wonder how much money is on it. "You can use that as long as you want, the sky is the limit." I gasped and almost dropped the card. My hands shuddered. "You don't have to give it to me, I might lose it," I said while shaking my head in disapproval. She just grinned at me. "Just keep it," she replied, as if it was not important to her. She shrugged her shoulders and walked towards the couch and sat on it. I checked the card, there was a name written on it, I frowned when I read the name. It was written ' Liam Evans ' Who is he? Maybe he was Helena's father. I only have two days to practice. I hope I can do it without causing a problem. ~•~ Thank you for reading. Please vote and leave a comment.
