Theodore's POV
"Theodore?" A beautiful woman asked me. She was tall, beautiful face with small eyes, beautiful nose and plump lips, she had red hair. If this is my date then I am very happy about it.
"Depends on who's asking..." I said.
"I am Diana...I'm sorry I'm on a blind date and they didn't give me a description." she said.
" Yes, I am Theodore and I believe that I am your date..." I said as I stood up and opened a chair for her.
"Thank you..." she said with a smile and sat down.
"Would you like some wine?" I asked her.
"I'm more of a champagne kind of girl..." She said.
"Then champagne it is..." I said to her and called the waiter closer to my table. "Can I get a glass of your most expensive champagne for the lady." I said to him.
"I'm sorry sir, we sell that by the bottle only." he said.
"Then we'll take the bottle then." I said.
"Excellent choice sir." he said and pulled out the menus from the wall.
"So this is your first blind date?" I asked her.
"Yes, I didn't know what to expect." She said.
"Well I hope this to make a memorable one." I said.
"So what do you do? I didn't want to ask Harry." she said.
"Well I'm surprised that they didn't tell you that, I thought that you would have my social security number by now." I said and she laughed. A sweet melodic laugh.
"Nope, they didn't." she said.
"Well I own a few businesses. What do you do?" I asked her.
"Oh I'm a nurse at the old age home downtown." she said.
"Alright... why the old age home though?" I asked her. She could be working at a hospital, or a clinic, I'm sure that they pay better.
"Well I am actually studying neuroscience, I want to help with neurology in old people and so I thought that it would be best if I was around them to understand better and study them." she said.
"That is wonderful, I am sure that you are going to be a great doctor." I said.
"just a year away then I get my residency." she said.
"That's wonderful... so do you have any kids?" I asked her.
"Not yet, maybe someday but right now I am focused on my career, what about you? any children? " she asked me.
"I have a son but he is away with his mother." I said to her. I know that Martin might not have my blood running in his veins but to me, he is my son. This is the reason why I am not going to sign the divorce papers, he can't just cut me out of Martin's life just like that.
"Oh... I see a ring, are you married because I don't do married men. " she said .
"Well I won't lie to you, I am still married but we have been separated for two years now,. I haven't seen her since if happened, I just never got around to taking off my ring." I said.
I have already gotten used to wearing my wedding band and since I am still married to her, I felt like I was well within my rights to wear it, I wonder if Abigail still wears her ring, I doubt it though. She wants a divorce, she wants out of our marriage.
"Yeah... I remember how that feels." she said.
"You were married too?" I asked her.
"Nope, but I was engaged and when we broke up, I couldn't bring myself to take off the engagement ring." she said.
The waiter came back, he took our orders and left the table. I must say that I never thought that a day would come when I would actually go out and have a good time with a lady. I still love Abigail but my father was right, infact everyone is right, I have to move on with my life. I have to accept that I might never see Abigail again. I am the secret agent with skills and yet she managed to get away from me.
"Wow that was a lovely meal... Thank you for this." she said with a smile. We had just had our dessert. I insisted on it after she said that she was watching her figure, she was already slim, I didn't think a little dessert would hurt, so to make her feel better, I offered to share with her. She enjoyed it and so did I. I didn't think that my date would go this smooth but it did. I haven't had a connection with another woman since my wife left me, who knows, maybe I am starting to realise my truth, that she is gone forever.
"So would I be too forward if I asked you for your number? I would like to take you out again someday, I have a lovely vineyard in the country and I recently got into champagne making." I said.
"That's a lovely offer but I am not sure about accepting the invitation..." she said.
"Why not?" I asked her.
"Look you are a nice guy, really nice but I don't think that going on a second date is going to happen. " she said.
"Why not? I mean I had fun and I think your did as well... come on, what do you have to lose?" I asked her.
"Honestly... a second date would be nice but the fact that you are still wearing your wedding band, means that you are not over your wife. Theodore I have dreams and aspirations, I cannot be with a man who is still hung up on his wife, I'm sorry." she said.
"So what if I take off my wedding band? would you consider a second date with me then?" I asked her.
"Theo, I have been were you are right now and even if you took off your ring, it still won't change what's in your heart. I really did have a lovely time but like I said, I can't be with you ." she said.
I then realised that I would have to work a little harder to convince her to go on another date with me. I don't know but I kind of like her and I actually think that maybe, just maybe we can make this work, I am not talking marriage but we can definitely have something.
"I am sorry that you feel that way but I feel like I should warn you that I don't give up that easily. " I said.
"Well I don't know about that but I have to go." She said.
"Can I atleast take you home? " I asked her.
"No thanks, I drove here." she said.
"Alright then, I'll walk you to the car." I said and stood up. I took out a bunch of bills and threw them on the table.
"Let's go..." I said as I walked her out, we waited by the door as the valet brought back her car. It was a mini cooper, an old one but it was in good condition.
"Well that's my ride... thanks for dinner." she said and gave me a hug.
She got in her car and drove off. I guess Diana is truly one of a kind. This is the first time in years where I had been out with a woman and I never thought of Abigail for once. It was like she had erased her out of my mind and I am happy about it. The valet brought back my car and I drove home. I got into my apartment and I went to the answering machine. There was no messages for me , my cellphone vibrated in my pocket, it was my father.
"Hi Dad..." I said.
"Hi son... how did the date go?" He asked me.
"Well it was good, Diana is a nice girl." I said.
"So when is the second date?" he asked me.
"It seems like the jury is still out on that one... she didn't approve of my wedding ring." I said.
"I told you to take it off, her mother doesn't even talk to us anymore, I saw a moving truck the other day, I think that she is moving out." My father said.
"What do you mean she's moving out? Do you think that she's going to live with Abigail? " I asked him.
"I don't know and I don't care, I don't know what really happened between the two of you but for her to cut us off like that was uncalled for. We are family, whatever the problem is, she could have spoken to me about it, and now her mother is treating us like criminals! I won't have it." My father said.
"Dad I told you that what happened was totally on me, I made a lot of mistakes with her, mistakes I wish I could take back and for the last two years I have been trying to make them right. I think that it is really time for me to move on, I don't think that she is ever going to come back to me." I said.
"Which is why you need to take that ring of and move on with your life, Diana is really a nice girl, her parents are lovely people." my father said.
"I know... she is a nice girl and you are right, it's time for me to move on, no matter how hard it is going to be. I need to have some closure. " I said.
"Good... Son I know that this is not easy for you, I know that you loved her and despite all that happened, I believe that she loved you too. I don't want you to feel like you are not worthy of love because she left you because you are, you deserve to be happy just like everyone else.
I am not saying that you should rush off and marry Diana but I think that this is a good thing, it has been two years since she left." my father said.
"Yes maybe dad will even forgive me for everything." I said.
" He just wants to see you happy that's all." He said.
"Dad you know how much he loves Abigail, he thinks that I have basically f@*ed up the best thing that has ever happened to me and he is right, I made so so many mistakes." I said.
"That doesn't mean that you didn't learn from them, and I am proud of you son, for a moment I tought that you might never move passed Abigail, as hard as it is, you are going to be fine. " my father said.
"Yeah you know, the whole time I was with her, I never even once thought about Abigail, I don't know but I think something in me is finally changing." I said.
"That's good... I am happy to hear that." he said.
"You know what dad, thanks for the call." I said to him.
"It's a pleasure son, I have to go." he said.
"Okay... say "Hi" to dad for me. " I said.
"Will do." he said and hung up the phone.
I went to the fridge and took out a bottle of water. I looked at my hand and I took off my ring, there was a ring mark but that was all it was. I felt like a weight was lifted off of my shoulders, like I have been freed somehow. I took out my phone and called Mark, he answered on the first ring.
"Hello..." he said.
"Hello, it's me." I said.
"I have called ID, man nothing has changed since we last spoke, we don't know where Abigail is." he said.
"Actually I called you to tell you that you don't have to find her for me anymore, I am putting it on ice." I said.
"What do you mean you are putting it on ice? are you finally going to let it go?" He asked me.
"Yes brother, she sent me divorce papers, she wants out of our marriage." I said .
"Let me guess, she's taking you to the cleaners? She wants half of everything right?" He asked me.
"That's the thing, she just wants a divorce, not even alimony or nothing. " I said.
"Okay... that's a first, I was not expecting that at all." He said.
"Me neither, I tore up the papers though... but don't worry I am going to have my lawyer draw up new ones, I want to give her some money, if we are going to get a divorce then I think that she should be able to afford a comfortable life, for the sake of the boy." I said.
"You are a good man my brother, not only did you risk your life for her, now you want to make her rich?" He said.
"Look I might be divorcing her but I still love her man, I don't want her to suffer, when we were together I gave her the best of everything, I still want her to live that life, even if I am not with her anymore." I said.
"That is why you are a better man than me brother." he said.
"Thanks for the help brother." I said.
"It's a pleasure..." he said.
I hung up. Everyone keeps on telling me that I have to move on and they are right, I need to move on. I want to feel alive again, I want to feel like I have a purpose again and as for Diana, she has not heard the last of me. I went into the living room and switched on the TV.
"Yes and apparently the baby was not his afterall..." a TV host said and I turned my focus to the screen, I saw Greyson's picture with Rosa. They were apparently getting a divorce.
"Well we have it on good authority that they are definitely separated." the other hosts said.
Okay now I was not expecting this, I thought that they were happy, just last week I saw them at a restaurant, I was sitting alone as usual and they were with their beautiful baby girl. He looked happy like he had found his light in the darkness after Abigail ghosted the both of us. I switched off the TV and decided that I am not going to believe the things that they were saying. I know how these people like to change the truth to boost ratings. This is why I hate being in the public eyes.
