Elizabeth’s POV
I watched as Alex fell to his knees, crying out of pain. Oh Moon Goddess, what is happening?
I had hidden between different mirrors and was planning my escape, but Alex and his goons were blocking the exit. I could watch the scene from there, without them seeing me.
Jeremy and Amy had found me about ten minutes later on the floor, hiding.
“Playing hide and seek again?” Jeremy teased.
Amy gave him a confused look, unsure what to make about his words and my hiding.
“Shhhhh!!” I hushed him and pulled both of them down to my level, looking over my shoulder to check if someone had spotted or heard them.
“What’s going on?” Amy asked. She was now certain that she had missed the memo.
I sighed, not sure if I should tell them or not. Nevertheless, Jeremy beat me to it.
“She is mated with that mutt!” Jeremy spits out, pointing to the exit.
“Shhhh!” I hissed at him. “Keep it down!”
“Which one?” Amy asked, surprised.
“The one on the floor,” Jeremy winked his eyes at her.
“But, but…” she trailed off shocked, “Isn’t that Alexander?” she huffed.
“Yes, and…” I could hear the boys bickering, “I need to get out of here.” I pleaded.
“Just go to him,” Amy mused.
“I can’t” I whispered back, bewildered.
“Why no..?”
“Long story…” I cut her off, “I’ll tell you later.”
“What does your Wolf tell you to do?” Amy asked calmly.
“My wolf?” I looked at her in surprise. How did she know I had my wolf already? Wolves in general get their wolf part a few minutes before their first shift.
“Lizzy, I have suspected that you had your wolf for a while now,” I just stared at her, not knowing what to reply. I knew she was a very good observer, but could she sense my wolf?
“How do you…” she cut me off with a gesture of her hand.
“Long story, I’ll tell you some other time… now what does your wolf tell you?”
“She wants to go to her mate, but…”
“But what…?” she glared at me.
“I overheard the guys say that Alexander is under the influence of Wolfsbane, and, and...” I stuttered, “Kona can’t communicate with Kevin.”
“I guess Kevin is Alex’s wolf?”
I gave her a quick nod of my head for yes.
“Okay, so here is the plan…” Jeremy, who had been listening and observing the ordeal, declared with a wicked smile. This sounds like trouble if it comes from Jeremy.
Would you ever believe me if I told you we had to use a prank to escape?
Yeah, I thought so.
So, the plan was to swap my clothes with Amy's and have both Jeremy and Amy walk to the exit, hoping that Alexander would catch the scent and take the bait and follow them out. Jeremy would then put up a fight, claiming Amy as his mate, and, in the chaos, all of them would be distracted long enough for me to get my ass out of there and run off to the forest.
So we did just that.
Jeremy played his part extremely well (he should maybe apply for a role in drama class, his acting is impeccable) as he took hold of Amy’s hand and marched straight to the exit where the five wolves were standing at the door.
Alex had finally gotten to his feet, still disobeying and being a d*ckhead, claiming to ignore Xavier’s plea to go to the infirmary.
As the pair approached the group, Alex automatically threw his nose in the air, taking a deep whiff at them, falling the bait. His eyes instantly turned black. Uttering the words “mate” under his breath and the chase was on. The rest of the group followed suit, identical to little puppies running after their mother looking for a breast to suck on. I giggled, knowing that they were going to be in big sh*t if they got caught.
The coast was clear and I made my way to the exit.
The few-second window was reaching its end, as I reached the bottom step.
A furious roar came from where Jeremy and Amy were running, and I knew trouble was on its way.
The Wolfsbane had seemed to wear off, and Kevin was awake- knowing that Amy was not his mate, and he had been tricked. He was furious and his aura dominated. It pushed me harder, sprinting as fast as my human body would allow, running towards the woods.
I know he will follow and would easily catch up with us.
Kona howled in my head, calling her mate, Kevin, to join her at her side. Directing him to where to find us and to go alone.
It pushed me harder toward the woods. I needed to get to the small waterfall in the center of the woods before he caught up with us before the moon reached its highest peak. I was running against time.
A downhearted howl echoed through the quiet forest. My heart shivered in sorrow at the sound.
I lifted my eyes towards the heavens, looking between the massive trees, and searching for the moon. The mist between the trees made it too difficult to see. Just then, as if the full moon was calling to us, it broke through the thick mist in all its glory. It called us, roared to us to urgently get our asses to the fall.
I could see the moon almost at its highest peak.
We will be forced to shift soon.
I made it just in time.
I stripped from my clothes and walked to the side of the small spring. My body glows white in the moonlight. I could barely catch my breath and enjoy the moonlight kissing my skin, when the cracking of bones followed, the penetrating pain radiated through my body. I screamed in agony as I fell to my hands and knees, clenching my jaw to try and handle the pain. My body shook violently and then it twisted and turned, taking shape.
“Make it stop, make it stop, please” I tried to scream and tremble, but my voice had been lost in the torment of our pain and fire.
The intoxicating smell of oranges and dark chocolate hit my sensitive nose.
“Mate”, Kona chanted excitingly through the severe pain. I don’t care, help me please; just take this torture away. I begged and wept.
My hands and feet make way for my paws. The sound of bones breaking was audible in the quiet night, my head snapped back in a howling position, and a muzzle replaced my nose and mouth. Tears had made it through my eyes, dripping quietly to the ground. The indescribable pain had occupied my entire frame, there was no inch of it not boiling and aching. It had forced my body down onto the soil.
“Calm down Lizzy,” Kona tried to soothe, “It will be over soon, I promise, just bear with me. The first time will always be the worse.”
I concentrated on her voice, praying to the Moon Goddess to ease the pain faster. I hoped that giving birth would be less painful someday. I shook my head at the senseless ideas running through my head at a time like this.
The last part of the shift goes more smoothly, the pain seems to disappear, leaving a burning sensation over my naked body as I grow my tail and fur.
“Is it over?” I whisper to Kona in a weak voice when the burning sensation stills. I had my massive head lying on my paws.
“YES!” she sang joyfully, “have a look, girl!”
Do I dare to open my eyes and take a peek?
“Come on,” Kona insisted, “open your eyes and have a look.”
I peeped through one eye, hesitant about what to expect.
Then the other eye followed.
I lifted my head in astonishment, everything looked so much richer in color, clearer than before. My senses tingled and it was in overdrive. The mist has covered a circle around us, keeping us private.
I looked down at my paws, amazed that they were all white with a soft white glow. That tickled my interest.
I walked forward to the edge of the waterfall's pool and took a look at my reflection in the water.
“What the f*ck!” I gasped, taking a step back from the water, not believing what I just saw.
“Kona???” I called and turned my attention to her for an explanation.
She snickered in the back of my mind.
“What did you expect?” I could see her rolling her eyes at me. “I told you we were special, didn’t I?” She found my outburst entertaining.
“Yes, you did, but... but I didn’t expect this!”
A snap of a twig invaded my moment with my wolf. My ears spiked up and moved in the direction the twig shattered, putting me on high alert.
I turned around to face my invader, ready to pounce and fight if it was needed. Yet I was met by an enormous black wolf with a silver crescent moon on his left shoulder, his gaze pinned on me.
“You're beautiful,” the husky voice said through the mind link.
