Ynna didn't respond, as she kept her eyes in front and was going to open the door when it suddenly opened.
"What are you standing here? Please sit comfortably," the secretary asked as he went in.
But, she stepped aside as the servers entered and arranged the food on the table. She turned her head on Rex as he made his way to the head of the table. Just as he sat down, his gaze drifted towards hers.
"Sit down," Rex told her once more when the servers went out. She clenched her teeth in disapproval of the way he spoke to her. Is he still thinking that she is the same old Ynna who does everything he says?
"Ynna." She accepted the secretary's offer of a seat. They're seated across from one other at opposite ends of the table. As he maintains his gaze on her, he shows no emotion at all. Her fingers curled together into a fist.
"Sir, this is Ynna-"
"He knows me. I'm his ex-fiancee," she blurted daringly while still staring at him.
"Ex-fiancee? Sir, is it really true?" The secretary asked in shock.
"Enzo, leave us first." He ordered his secretary as he darkened his gaze at her, but she gave him an unbothered look.
The secretary looked at her hesitantly before stepping out of the room.
"You're going to hire a man just to write a romance novel? What makes you think of something like that?" He immediately chastised her.
She rolled her eyes because up until now he still hadn't changed.
"You've dramatically improved your looks, but you're still meddling in other people's lives," she stated as much. She picked up her fork and tasted the expensive-looking dish despite his scrutiny.
"Anyway, we're both mindful that we can't make a deal since we don't want to be linked to each other. So let's end our talk here." She said this as she put down the fork.
"And you're going to stop finding a man for your romance novel." He asserted himself with firmness.
"It's none of your concern," she stated as she rose from her seat and walked away from the table.
"Ynna." He called her authoritatively, but she ignored him and went straight to the door.
"I'm warning you," he said.
"Warning, your face," she said, casting a side glance before she finally left the room.
What a shameless man! She stopped herself to yell out. Who does he think he is? Has he forgotten what he did to her? She cursed him a couple more times in her head because she couldn't get over how cool he was in front of her.
When she reached her friend's office, she was greeted with the simple question,
"What happened?"
When she informed her friend that she had met the man who wanted to make a deal with her, she was instructed to head straight to the office. But, she is adamant about keeping his identity a secret from her friends.
"Nothing happened," she shortly replied.
She walked up to the bookshelf and took a closer look at the variety of romance novels on display which belonged to her friend. Her friend is a well-known author who has penned numerous works of fiction. She picked one up and started reading through it.
"Why didn't the man accept your offer?" Her friend persisted in questioning her, but she chose to change the topic.
"Help me with the writing of a romantic novel. Also, I'd like to meet a man. It's fine with me if it's a blind date or if I have to hire someone."
"Was there anything unpleasant that happened during your meeting with the man? Tell me, did he insult you?" Her dear friend was never able to stop pestering her. As a response, she remained silent to imply that she didn't want to talk about it.
She grabbed two more books, walked over to the sofa, and settled up to continue her reading.
"Something happened. If not, you'll not be triggered like this."
She ignored what her friend said and continued reading.
Enzo looked at the president of Alpa Ferron as he placed the last paperwork on the table for today. These past few days, his boss has been quiet and seemed to be deep in thought. He began to wonder if the lady he met outside the convenience store was actually his boss's ex-fiancee. He'd been the secretary for two months, but it was only now that he saw his boss in this light.
"Is eight years enough to change someone?" He heard his boss ask. He moved closer in, facing the skyscrapers visible through the translucent glass of his boss's office.
"Sir, time does not change us. The experiences we have had, the people we've met in the past, the suffering, pain, and happiness we've felt were the things that made us grow and change." He expressed his point.
"To put it another way, the memories she had with me and the pain I caused her made her change. I was the reason."
"You're not the only one in her past, Sir."His boss laughed faintly.
"You're probably right, but I'm the first man who caused her pain."
After a few seconds of gazing at his boss's back, he recalled his chat with the ex-fiancee of his boss.
"Hold on, does that mean she's still heartbroken over you, Sir?" His boss turned to him.
"What do you mean?"
"I just remembered that, Sir, her friend said that she could easily learn to write a romance novel if she could heal her wounded heart."
"Why didn't you tell me everything you talked about?" The hostility of his boss had returned.
"Sir, I just told you the important details. I had no idea that Ynna was your ex-fiancee."
"Did she mention my name?"
"I would have known your past if she had mentioned your name, Sir." His boss's gaze clouded on him.
"Then, did she mention which man hurt her? Her ex's name?" His eyes squinted, and he gave his boss a dubious expression.
"What response do you want to hear, sir? You're not the reason for her broken heart until now, or that she doesn't have an ex other than you?"
"Both." His boss replied.
"That's impossible, Sir."
"I'm aware. So find out what Ynna will do next." His boss asked and then walked away.
"Sir, are you heading to your house right now?" He asked.
"Yes."
"Sir, I believe you forgot that you have to sign documents today." His boss stopped for a moment.
"Bring to my house the documents I will sign before you go home."
"Coming, Sir." He replied.
And now, he's doubting if his boss can balance work and personal life.
