Sierra's POV
Click
My eyes shoot open and I look around, my heart beating loudly in my chest. "Asher?" I question softly, sitting up in the hospital bed. "He-hello?"
The sound of someone's breathing fills my ears and I grab the remote besides my bed and let my finger hover over the red button.
"Who is it?" I ask, my voice trembling terribly. "Asher?" I question again and instead of an answer, I'm rewarded with the curtain being pulled back. "You," I whisper and Pierce smiles weirdly. "My my my, you grew up a lot since I last saw you," he says and I frown with my eyebrows furrowed.
"Don't come any closer," I tell him, raising my hand that's holding the remote. He raises his arms in surrender and smiles a more normal smile. "You don't remember me do you?" He asks and I shake my head. "No, unless you mean the part where you knocked me unconscious," I mumble and he chuckles.
"Oh dear child, how about this, my last name is Henders." I look at him in horror and disbelief. "No, you're lying. You can't be related to my dad. You're not my uncle. Why did you hurt me if you are?" I question and he smirks. "So naive Sierra. He wasn't your real father, not my blood anyways and I'm not your blood uncle," he tells me and I shake my head.
"No. You're lying," I mumble, shaking my head. Tears form in my eyes and I take a deep breath trying to calm my racing heart. "Your dad," he mumbles with air quotes, "knew about your moms infidelity since before she got pregnant with you. He knew you weren't his child, but he didn't want to leave you with her," he continues and I hiccup.
"Then who's my dad? And why did you try to hurt me?" I question and he sighs, walking over to the chair besides my bed. "I'm trying to protect you. Orders from your real father, the man who's been looking for you since you were born. My brother knew who your real father was and chose to take it to his grave, literally," Pierce mumbles and I my heart stops beating.
"Are you saying that you hit me to protect me?" I ask, scoffing. "It was a test for Asher and Ross. To see how far they would go in protecting you. You're a very important girl Sierra. You're life is in danger," he says and I laugh.
"You think? I've been getting abused since my dad," I choke on the word, "died." I lick my dry lips. "Since the night my father decided to end his life because he couldn't take his cheating alcoholic wife. I lost everything that day. If my real dad cared about me he would have tried harder to find me!" I spit out angrily.
"What's going on in here?" Asher's voice fills the small room and I instantly relax. "Pierce," he growls and Pierce rolls his eyes. "Sorry kid, I'm going. Sierra?" He questions and I sigh. "Yes?" He gives me a frown and nods to Asher. "Fill him in. If all goes well, then maybe you can meet him," he tells me and my heart jumps a little.
Meet my real father? The man who clearly gave no f***s about my mother in the first place? The man who is possibly responsible for her evil ways in the first place? Oh, I can't wait to meet this mystery man, dangerous or not.
"Okay," I tell him and give him a small smile. He nods and leaves the room, leaving me alone with a very confused and angry Asher. "He hit me as a test. He was my 'dad's' brother. Come to find out my dad wasn't my dad. My real father is his boss, which I'm assuming you know who that is. And hopefully I'll get to meet him," I tell him in one big breath.
"What?" He asks, sitting on the edge of the bed. "The man who you thought was your dad wasn't even your biological father? And that guy was related to Pierce?" He asks and I nod. "Correct." He rubs his face and groans. "And you're also telling me that the f*****g head of the Mafia is your dad?" He asks and I nod once more.
"Also correct. Plus he's been looking for me for a long time apparently. There's so much going on and everything seems to be tied into one thing. Me," I tell him and he frowns. "What do you mean?"
"Think about it. My dad suddenly killed him self but he knew who my real father was. That's not a coincidence. I think my real father killed him and I'm going to prove it. I will seek vengeance for the man who raised me. Plus, Austin was in a rival gang who had troubles with yours. Austin sought me out for a reason but now I'll never know because he's dead."
"I'm the key to everything," I whisper, my heart beat picking up. "Asher," I mumble suddenly and he raises an eyebrow. "Yeah?" He questions and I place my hand on my forehead. "I'm dizzy, can you get the doctor?" I ask and he nods. "Yeah, I'll be right back," he tells me, leaving the room quickly.
"Sierra?" The doctor questions, walking up to me. "What's wrong? How are you feeling? I was told you're getting dizzy?" He asks and I nod. "Yes. I- I can't breathe," I mumble and he smiles softly. "You're having a panic attack. Just breathe, in and out. Slowly and evenly," he tells me and I do as instructed.
"How do you feel?" He questions, asking about the feeling I was experiencing but the question went deeper than that. "Like my life is upside down," I mumble and he chuckles. "Everything will be okay. Try and get some rest. If you have positive results tomorrow, I'll discharge you."
"Thanks doc," I whisper, laying back down. I turn away from Asher and cry silently, wishing everything was back to the way it was before I was running for my life, before I was involved with the Mafia. Back to when I thought my dad was my dad, back to when I had someone who loved me.
