The sound of police sirens and several people woke Janeth's sleep. With sleepy eyes she woke up. Glancing briefly at Max who was sleeping very soundly. Then Janeth washed her face in the sink. Fresh water makes the tired feeling that was felt a little less. Drying her face with a towel, Janeth went to the front of the house. The crowd that woke her up made Janeth curious.
In front of the house several police cars were parked. Janeth also saw an ambulance and several other cars. Something had happened near her house. Janeth threw the towel on the chair. She opened the door and walked into the courtyard. She saw many people gathered in front of her neighbor's house. The house was right next to Janeth. The house of the old lady who rebuked Janeth yesterday afternoon.
"What happened?" Janeth asked.
"Mrs. Marsha died," replied the woman who was also Janeth's neighbor.
Several policemen came out carrying the bodies which had been covered with white cloth. There was a foul smell. Janeth almost threw up. Some people even vomit. How could a woman who had just died have such a foul smell.
A woman is crying. The woman was the woman who had been taking care of Mrs. Marsha. Her cries grew louder when the police said that the woman's death had been two days ago. The corpse was rotten on the bed. The provisional estimate of Mrs. Marsha died in her sleep.
"No way. Yesterday she was still with me. Several residents were witnesses. Even she is still talking to the girl," the woman pointed at Janeth.
Everyone immediately looked at Janeth.
"Is it true that yesterday afternoon Mrs. Marsha spoke to you?" asked the policeman.
Janet nodded. It is impossible to dodge. Because some of the residents watched as the two of them spoke.
"Right," Janeth replied. Several residents who did see the two of them talking immediately confirmed it.
Hearing this the police looked confused. Finally they decided to put up a police line and asked residents to stay away from the location. Several cars arrived. Some people come out. They wear neat clothes. But it seems they are also cops.
"What happened?" Max scolds.
"Are you awake?" Janeth asked surprised, because Max was suddenly nearby.
"Mrs. Marsha died."
Max was silent and then entered the house. Max's attitude made Janeth follow him into the house.
"I know you don't like her. Mrs. Marsha often asks you about Jennifer," Janeth said. "But for me. Even if I get distracted sometimes. Mrs. Marsha is like a part of my life."
"Then?" asked Alex. He was busy making coffee.
Janet was silent. She was at a loss as to what to say.
"Listen, Janeth. That woman is very old. It's natural that she died. And you'd better stay out of it. Remember, we can't get too close to the police. Let's just say we have a stain they can't see." Max drank his coffee casually.
Janeth's face suddenly turned pale. Max's words made him realize the mistake she had made.
"But Mrs. Marsha's death is very strange. They say that Mrs. Marsha was dead three days ago. Even though yesterday I was still talking to her. You saw it yourself," Janeth was still thinking about it.
"No. I didn't see it. I just heard you talking to someone. That's all," Max said. "Don't interfere. Don't let them find out what we did wrong. Especially when it comes to Jennifer."
Janet was silent. She sat on the chair with a confused mind. She had hoped that after Jennifer's death, she could start a new life carefree and happy. But in reality she was haunted by guilt.
"You're not working?" Max asked.
Janet was surprised. She can be late if she doesn't get to work soon. Janeth immediately took a shower and got ready. Not long after that she immediately went to the office with a sandwich made by Max.
Max has been waiting for Janeth's departure. After Janeth leaves, Max will be free to find the whereabouts of the laboratory. Max immediately finished his bread. Then he saw the situation in front of the house. The ambulance is gone. So are some of the police. Finally Max has the opportunity to continue his duties.
"Wait a moment!" someone shouted.
Max was forced to stop his steps into the house. He turned and saw a man approaching him.
"Sorry to interrupt your moment," he said.
"No problem. Do you need anything?" Max asked.
"I'm Josh, the police officer in charge of Mrs. Marsha's death case. I just wanted to ask a few questions. About the woman who died," said the police officer.
Max just nodded.
"Residents said they saw Mrs. Marsha yesterday afternoon. Are you like that too?"
"Yes. I saw him yesterday afternoon. We talked for a while. That's all," said Max.
"What did Mrs. Marsha ask?"
"She just asked where Jennifer was."
"That's right. Everyone I asked said that. They said this is Jennifer's house."
"Jennifer used to be my girlfriend. But she cheated on her and left with her new boyfriend. Then Jennifer's sister liked me. Actually I wanted to leave and it's not possible to make a relationship with Janeth, my ex-lover's sister anytime soon, but I can't bear to leave Janeth alone. She used to being spoiled and afraid to live alone. So... I'm still here."
"I see." Said the cop.
"What else?" Max asked.
"Are there no surveillance cameras in this area? Or security cameras?" asked Josh.
"Nothing. Residents feel disturbed by it. They feel life here is very peaceful. So they feel they don't need it," said Max.
"That's a big mistake. We never know if good people can also become bad guys if they have the chance." Josh took a deep breath.
"Is it true that Mrs. Marsha died three days ago?" Max asked.
"Meanwhile. Mrs. Marsha's body is very rotten. It's hard to identify. But don't worry, we will investigate this matter. The forensic team will find the cause of death," said Josh reassuringly.
Max just smiled faintly.
"Alright. Thank you for your cooperation. Have a nice day." Josh waved away.
Max immediately closed the door. He smiled and laughed alone.
"You will find nothing but the fact that the woman died three days ago." Max laughed strangely again. Satisfied, his laughter disappeared. Max's cold face appeared. He took out a robot rat and started playing with it. Max just sits down and runs the robot mouse to explore through his cell phone. He looks like he's playing a game. But actually what appears on the screen is what the robot rat sees.
Max doesn't realize that Josh, who originally left, didn't actually go. Josh returns after confirming Max thinks he's gone a long way. Josh peeked and entered the house slowly. He hides when he sees Max playing with the toy robot. Even though Josh was just an ordinary detective. He knew that the robot rat was not a toy. It's a roaming rat robot.
