Chapter Seven

1056 Words
I couldn't shake off the comment I had seen earlier, lingering in my thoughts like a shadow refusing to dissipate. Who was Marissa, and how had she died? Was her demise somehow linked to her involvement with the Alpha Three? The weight of uncertainty pressed down on me, leaving me with a sense of unease that refused to dissipate. As I glanced around the cafeteria, seeking answers from those around me, I found only silence. Even Jimmy, usually so quick with a quip, remained tight-lipped, his eyes betraying a flicker of recognition before returning to their usual stoic facade. Olivia, sensing my confusion, grabbed her phone and focused on her lunch, avoiding my gaze. It was a clear indication that she, too, was unwilling to broach the topic of Marissa. It felt as though they were all complicit in a conspiracy of silence, burying the past and erasing Marissa from memory as if she had never existed. "Who is Marissa?" I finally mustered the courage to ask, lifting my gaze to meet theirs. No one dared to answer until Jimmy locked eyes with me, his pupils dilating as though he had recalled something from his past. It was a fleeting moment, but it left me unsettled. Olivia grab the phone back and start eating her lunch. “You should start eating too.” I know that she is avoiding to answer my question. Why do I feel like they know her somehow, like they knew who she is but never tried to open it up. Like they are trying to bury the past, erasing her, like she never existed. “Marissa should not be your concern right now.” Chen answered. I glance a look at him who is looking right back at me. “Why?” “Your concern should be, what will the Mones do to you, when he finds you.” I rolled my eyes up. Why should I be afraid of him? What would he do to me? “I am not scared of that man. I don’t care if he is the future CEO of the Mones alt or the richest man in this town. He is a jerk, an asshole who deserve to get kicked down. I don’t respect someone who does not respect someone back. He does not deserve my respect, he needs to earn it.” The words hung heavy in the air, casting a pall over the table. I felt a shift in the atmosphere, a palpable tension that seemed to thicken with each passing moment. Olivia's reaction was swift and sharp, her voice tinged with a mix of frustration and concern. “Why the hell did you just said that Elena?” Olivia's words cut through the air like a knife, her eyes boring into mine with an intensity that left me reeling. “I know you are just new here, that you just moved in this town, but you know nothing about these people here. I am trying to be you friend here, so I could help you avoid these trouble, the trouble I am afraid you would intact yourself into. But no matter how hard I try to warn you, push you back to your limit, you are going into trap, into trouble itself. I don’t know what is wrong with you, I don’t know why you are trying to get yourself into trouble. I don’t know if helping you, or being your friend is a mistake or what.” Her outburst drove her from the table, followed closely by Jimmy and Chen, leaving Polly behind. I watched them go, a knot of guilt forming in my stomach as I realized the impact of my words. “Elena Denvers… You should worry. But I can’t help but to be happy about what is going on. There’s no drama ever since, and when drama comes, I am very happy to watch it.” She held my hands and squeeze it before she leaves and left me alone in this table. I have no idea why these people are so dramatic and so scared to the Alpha three. I mean, I am scared too, but why do they fear them? I know I shouldn’t wait for the answers to come, but what happened, already happened. And Olivia… She is scared, I could feel it to her voice. Something about them, seems wrong. As I pondered the events that had transpired, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss, that there was more to Marissa's story than met the eye. As I prepared to leave the table, a figure blocked my path, her presence commanding attention. With slicked-back hair and piercing eyes, she exuded an aura of authority that left me feeling vulnerable. "Who are you?" I demanded, but before she could respond, she delivered a stinging slap that sent me reeling backward. My cheeks burned with embarrassment as I realized the entire cafeteria was watching the spectacle unfold. "You will know me," she declared, her grip firm as she forced me to meet her gaze. "Because you have no right to interfere in my affairs, especially with my fiance." Fiance? The word echoed in my mind as I struggled to comprehend the situation. Was she referring to Mason, the enigmatic figure who claimed to be my fated mate? The humiliation of the moment threatened to overwhelm me as I grappled with the implications of my actions. Should I retaliate, or should I swallow my pride and let the incident fade into obscurity? She let go of my face and stand back as I fixes my posture after I finally get back my balance. Either I will slap her so she would know that I am not that easy to be defeated, or I would do nothing, so I could lay low and make this event be forgotten by many. Maybe if I did that, people would start to forget what I did to Mason, the leader of the Alpha Three. Maybe they would forget that I kicked his ass to the ground, maybe they would forget what this girl did to me. As I weighed my options, I couldn't help but wonder if this was just the beginning of the consequences I would face for crossing paths with the Alpha Three. Only time would tell.
