Chapter One
I feel cold.
The wind is blowing against me, I could hear it howling, I could feel it lingering on my skin as I kept walking on the streets, with only the full moon as a source of my light in front of me. I keep looking around, but I definitely know that I am losing my way back home. We just got here in this town three days ago, and I couldn’t even keep myself in the house at this hour, just because I craved for a midnight snack out of nowhere, like I used to back in Michigan. I wasn’t just expecting that the nearest market here in this town, is actually far from the house were we moved in. If only I knew it would take so much steps before I get there, and get back to our house, then I should’ve listened to myself to wait till the morning comes to stop my craving. Then maybe, I wouldn’t be wondering around, trying to remember which way is the right way to go back. But if one thing you need to know about me…
I don’t keep myself waiting if I have something in my mind.
As I take my steps slowly, the only thing I can hear is the footsteps I am making, the sound of the air blowing against my whole body, and a sound of the trees dancing at this cold night.
I keep looking around.
As soon as I left that store, I felt like I am being watched, I am being followed, but every time I turn my head back, I see nothing but only the shadows of myself. It is scary, especially at night. I always have this feeling that someone is watching me, ever since my mom died, I felt being watched, but this time, it felt different, I am not only sensing that someone is watching me, but I could feel their presence around me… It is in between of near and distance away from me, and I couldn’t figured out which both it is.
I stopped, when a howl of a wolf echoed around me, from the forest behind these streets, where I am standing. A second after that, I could feel the trees swooshed like someone just ran over the trees, not towards me, but around me. Running through circles. Like observing me.
I feel my hair standing up as I start walking again, faster and faster than the last steps I take.
Until everything stopped.
The air, the swoosh, the howls, the goosebumps, the cold…
Like something switch everything off.
And then a foot steps can be heard, echoing, walking towards me from my back. I forced myself to be brave, to turn my body around to look at the person who is making that sound.
Who could it be at this hour?
It is a tall man. I couldn’t see his face, only his silhouette. But I could tell he has this muscle that he build up. Tall, like a 6 footer three, I can see his shadows following his steps, I could feel the sweat slowly running over my face, I could hear, not only the beat of my heart, but also the steps he is taking.
“Who are you?” I asks. “Why are you following me?”
No answer.
“I’m calling the cops!”
No answer.
And he stop. He stop his way. And in just a blink of an eye, he stands, right in front of me, like he just teleported from where he was, to where he is now. I almost lose my breath. I could feel my body warming up, I could feel my heart beat going fast every second that it takes.
I could feel the fear, in me…
His eyes… Glowing in yellow. Impossible. His dark hair is down, his nose is sharp enough to inch away from mine… his lips are sealed, but shape into thin pinkish red… His chiseled jaw added so much texture to his thin long face.
I have seen him in school before, but I never really paid attention to him before, until now. He stands so close to mine that I could feel his breathe onto my face. He looks at me with despair, slowly fading out from his glowing yellow eyes. And he speaks one word that I will never understand.
“Marissa.”
Who is Marissa? Did he just mistaken me for someone else?
“I’m not Marissa.” He steps back, slowly until he is inches away from me that I could see his whole body now. He is still wearing the uniform from our school. With an E logo in the side where the heart is. His white polo shirt has dirt stain, and his black vest has a small ripped from his waist. “I’m sorry.” he apologized. “I thought you are someone else.” he added and his glowing eyes slowly turns back to his original sea blue eyes.
What’s going on? Is whats’ lingering on my mind right now. How could he glow his eye into yellow and change it back to its’ original form?
“If you are not Marissa... Then who are you?”
“I’m Elena Denvers.”
