{Emily}
Was I too blunt? In all honesty, that's just how my character is. Orion infatuates me to no end. I think I should start referring to him as an addictive drug. I've yearned for his blood since I first got a taste. The way he intentionally avoided me in the last few days just increased my will to speak to him again.
But purebloods don't apologize. What would father do if he saw me apologizing to a wolf? I shudder only thinking about him getting angry. Either way, my words were based on facts. A pureblood and a mutt? I've never heard of such a pairing. Even if I wanted to be with Orion there was just no way to be with him. I'm turning eighteen soon which means that pureblood suitors will start flocking to me. Father wishes to continue the pureblood legacy so I have to mate with a pureblood male vampire and offer children for the coven.
It's awful just thinking about it but soon that'll be my future. However, it bothered me how Orion gave me the cold shoulder. Was this annoying? Yes. Very much so. Apologizing was tempting but Orion wouldn't even let me be near him before he quickly scurried away.
"Emi, you're crushing the poor can," Jasmine sighed as she nudged me. Back in reality, we were in the lunchroom. I gave up waiting for Orion on the roof because he now ate with his buddies and their girlfriends in the cafeteria. Besides, Jasmine and Julia were pestering me to come back to our lunch table.
I release my soda can from my grip. I poked at the pasta that lay sadly on my tray. My girls from the volleyball team and I had a whole table for ourselves. Feared and too powerful, no one approached us to except the vampire guys that had guts. Of course, that didn't stop eyes to wonder to our chests and below our waists.
"You've been agitated the entire week," Julia commented.
"Is it that noticeable?" I groan.
"A gloomy aura has been surrounded you the entire week." Julia stopped shortly. "Is it because of your mother?"
I lean back in my chair and prop my hands on my lap. "We knew that was going to happen eventually. If anything, my mom was always sending me off to school like it would be her last time."
"How are Rebecca and Renee?"
"That's complicated," I sigh. I glance at Orion's table. The Alpha-Females were focussing on something and I realize what it was. Elite foxes have super hearing just like vampires. I shush Jasmine before she could speak. A discreet tilt of my head notifies them of our stalkers.
"Bitches," Jasmine laughs. "I guess even foxes have their ways of showing their obsession over someone."
Startled, the Alpha-Females know that they've been caught. "What a bore....I expected something better," I add disapprovingly. Orion's eyes met mine for the first time in a while. Too bad he turned away rapidly.
Suddenly, my nose perks up, and goosebumps trail down my arms. Everyone becomes aware of a powerful presence. The chattering stops when the double doors of the cafeteria entrance open. My eyes widened as I saw who it was.
Eliza Huntsman. She comes from the Necrosis Hearts Coven. A coven with pureblood descendant just like mine. We were at the same level in terms of status. But she was my tormentor in Middle School. Vista Middle School. They were torturous years because I had yet to learn how to defend myself. I haven't seen her since. Until now. Last I heard, she attended Rutherford High. Several towns away. Then it hit me. My team and I had our first game in two days and it was a tradition for the opposing team to spend their time in my school.
Eliza and her pose settle on my table. Tension crackled through the air. My coven was ready to jump out of their seats and the group approached us. Without invitation, they settled down.
Eliza sneered at me. "Emi! I haven't seen you since Middle School! How have you been?"
"Quit your sweet talk and get out," I snap which takes her by surprise.
"I see you've changed since back then. I guess my beatings served for a purpose," she giggled and intensely stared at me. It was meant to sting. Like a hard slap to my face. But now was not the time to cower back. I could do that when I was alone but now I had an audience and a reputation to uphold.
Eliza was acting like a dog in heat. Making sure to show off her thighs through her flimsy skirt. For once, my soda did a fantastic job of pouring itself onto Eliza's head. "Remember how we first met?" I smile coldly as the soda drenched her clothes. When we first met she poured water onto me.
"You're playing a dangerous game, Emily," she growled and stood up as if trying to settle dominance and power. I stood up roughly so that our eyes glared at each other, electricity filling the air.
"You started it."
"And you're about to start a war."
"Starting a war for such a petty thing?" I chuckled and my girls don't both in hiding their snickers.
"Emily..." Her voice wasn't playing anymore.
"Yes?"
She swung her fist at me but I caught her fist in my hand at fast speed. The wind the impact emitted blew my hair in the way. I've definitely caught her by surprise once more. Before, it was easy to land a punch on me but not anymore.
"Eliza, have you lost your touch?" My red eyes ignite at her. "It's useless to start a war. If anything, we'd be pestering our father's. You know how they'll react. We have our scars to prove it."
Her eyes reflected a sad story. I knew mine did too. That was the one thing we had in common. Her father is my uncle or my father's brother. That makes her my cousin. But our covens were sworn, enemies.
"Cousin, we'll settle this at our game on Friday," I say and release her fist.
"You've changed, Emily," Eliza sighed and she gave me an empathetic smile. "It's his doing, isn't it? You know, I tried making you tough before he got to you first but I guess I was too late."
"We are who we are because of them," I give her a sharp look. "It's not our fault."
"I'd like us to form an alliance for the future," she gave me a sad smile. "When we take over our covens."
"Eliza, it'll be an honor to bring peace between our covens," I state and I grab a plastic knife. I slice my palm and she does the same before we clasp our hands together.
"Peace for the future," she cajoles.
"Peace for eternity."
When we let go, our palms have healed already and scarred over by our promise. The energy from our pact could be felt through all our coven members. Including our father's. They'll be arriving here soon. If not, then they're already here. Coven leaders can teleport.
"Emily, what did you do" Jasmine cowers back. In fact, Eliza's coven members and mine cower back as a cold gust runs through us. "Not in the cafeteria."
"It's too late," I say and give Eliza a wary look. "Are you ready for the consequences?"
"There's nothing he can do to me now."
Jasmine jumps into action. She began yelling at the students, "Everyone get out of here now!"
"Why?" Murmurs circle throughout the mutts and they don't budge.
Eliza holds me back. "Don't. It's too late, we can't convince them now."
"But-"
"Emily." Her voice was stern. "They're here."
