5. The sassy omega

"Ara?" Aniya yelled while pushing through the branches. The mud below was sticky and already clinging to her calves and she wanted to get out of there. Her mother instructed to find Ara her sister though. She had to.
Just as she stepped on the branch and heard a twig snap her senses were alerted. She swallowed the lump formed in her throat. For some reason, she was sweating profusely and fidgeting uncomfortably. It felt as if something was coming.
"Ara where are you? Jeff?!" She yelled louder hoping that her brother in law was there too because she did not see him since morning. She couldn't howl in fear that rogues resided in the deeper part of woods.
"HELP! HELP! PLEASE!"
Loud and agony filled screams echoed the entire forest and she froze. As she looked behind all she could see was smoke and flames. Her face fell and she ran as fast as she could.
"No no no" She sobbed while running faster as the pack house was burning and raging with fumes. Before she could walk into those flames her leg caught into the nearby vine and she fell flat on her back.
That's when she saw them. Big black wolves with flags. Those flags were still bright and burning. She knew that symbol. It was Romano Clan's symbol.
Her eyes widened as the smoke spread around and it felt as if she couldn't breathe. She closed her eyes, waiting for her wolf to tear apart but then it was all black.
"Doctor?"
"Aniya! Aniya!" Someone harshly shook her shoulders and she jolted in the seat, blinking her eyes repeatedly. It was from Julia.
"Are you fine?" The nurse asked with a concerned look on her face. Aniya licked her lips and looked around the room and realized that she was sitting in her cabin.
"Uh... Yeah... I am fine... It's nothing" Aniya replied avoiding the intense stare on her and sorting her table. She had not yet filled out the information on the hospital website. A sigh left her lips when she remembered that she had to even scan her ID.
"Okay, I believe you" Julia drawled while pocketing her hands in her jacket.
"Why are you here anyway?"
"Oh, I totally forgot..." Julia squeaked embarrassed. Before Aniya could reply to her she interrupted.
"Umm...Yeah alright, I remembered. Hospital is hosting a charity Gala tonight and I was not sure that I left the invitation on your table so I just wanted to inform you. It's a black tie event obviously and oh... Some Elite celebrities and council members are going to be present so be punctual?"
"Wow" Aniya exclaimed
"Yeah. It's done every year to raise awareness about the Cancer research program in our hospital. You will be amazed at how different it is."
"That's such a good cause."
"It is. The twins started it after their grandfather passed away due to lung cancer. It was a tragedy really. Romano Sr was a great man. Suffered a lot during his last days and no one could find a cure for that." Julia sighed softly.
"I didn't know" Aniya faked a smile even though she had every update about his illness. When she received the news she was overjoyed because it meant they were suffering as well.
"So should I send your RSVP for the event?" Julia asked
"Definitely" Aniya hid a smirk. If everything went according to her plan then the twins would be humiliated and she would do her victory dance.

"Do you remember anything, Miss Martin?" The fireman question was sharp and it was ringing in her ears. She couldn't stop looking at the burned ground in front of her. The bodies of her pack members were already taken away in front of her eyes.
"Miss Martin?" The fireman called out again and she looked at him with a blank look on her face. Her mind couldn't comprehend the situation, it felt as if she was living her worst nightmare and just wanted to wake up.
Instead of answering his question she pinched herself hoping that it was just some bad dream.
"Miss Martin please. We need your help. This fire was not an accident. Did you see anything?"
She looked back at her pack house, the half side of the house collapsed. Tears started forming in her eyes but before they could hit her cheeks she furiously wiped them away.
"No... I don't... I did not see anyone officer" She swallowed harshly.
It was her revenge. She was going to do it herself she decided while staring at the ground. She was going to make each and every member of that Roman clan pay for their deeds.

Aniya smiled at the pup in front of her. She couldn't believe that the seniors actually cooperated and sent the patients to her. Most wolves who come to the hospital always want to be treated by the Alphas because of their seniority and the fact that they were Alphas. She had heard enough rumors about it.
"Thank you, Doctor" The pup grinned when she gave him the candy from the table.
"So do you want me to bring him for the follow up check up?" The omega asked staring at her son and then back at Aniya. She shook her head while handing her the prescription.
"I don't see the reason he needs a follow-up. He's suffering because of his teething. Betas take longer to recover from this stage so there is nothing to worry about. These medicines will help him deal with the pain." Aniya explained and noticed that the beta was happily chewing on the candy in spite of his pain.
"Just don't let him eat anything sour for a week"
"Okay thank you, Doctor. Really" The omega smiled and then stood up from her seat. She picked the prescription and walked out along with her son.
Aniya waved at the pup to which he flashed her a smile and waved back. After they left the omega rang for Julia.
"You called Doctor?" Julia huffed while pushing the door.
"Are you busy?"
"Yeah actually checking on Section B"
"I just needed my ID scanned for uploading on the website. Don't worry I'll do it myself. There aren't any more patients, right?"
"None right now"
"Okay. Can you tell more where copy room is?"
"The one on our floor is under renovations. You should go upstairs, boss's floor. The third room to left" Julia shrugged.
"Great. Thank you" Julia shut the door softly and Aniya released a deep breath.
She did not want to see any of those twins. Not after her painful vision. From the moment she found out that it was Romano clan who backstabbed them she couldn't sleep peacefully. She wanted to kill them all.
She cleared her throat and then rubbed her face. She had to maintain professionalism and not let anyone find out about her. With that, she picked her ID and walked out of the cabin.

The strong scent of her mate was the first thing she smelled as soon as she neared the copy room. Awesome! And here she was thinking that she would be able to avoid them. Her luck.
She pushed open the door and Evan's face snapped towards her. The entire room was empty, but she could smell different scents. Must be their coffee break she thought.
He narrowed his eyes at her as she softly closed the door behind her. Why him? She gave him a hesitant smile and walked towards the empty laptop.
"Fancy seeing you here Dr. Martin" He broke the silence
"Yeah I had to scan my ID" She replied not looking at him but she could feel his eyes digging on her back.
"Tsk tsk anything to avoid the job huh?" He snorted.
Anger flared inside her belly and she turned sharply at him. By the smirk tugging at the corner of his lips, it was evident that he did it purposefully. He knew that it got her the most when he ridiculed her work ethic.
"Well I could say the same thing about you Dr. Romano" She sweetly smiled.
"You and I...we are not same" He growled while clenching his fist by his side.
"Which I am very grateful for" She deadpanned
"One day that mouth of yours will get you in trouble. One day"
"You are a psychic now? Don't worry I'll call you personally the day that happens." She rolled her eyes and turned back to insert her ID inside the scanner.
"Oh, I'm sure it'll be too soon. You want my number for that?"
She laughed and turned around, "Is that your way of giving me your number Dr. Romano. You think you are so slick"
He looked flustered and shook his head. She never saw him turn that red but she was enjoying how easy he was to rile up.
"Absolutely not. You think too highly of yourself."
"Besides I didn't appreciate how you threw me under the bus with Dr. Reid" He snarled
"You mean under her?" She giggled but noticed that his lips didn't even twitch at that and he looked at her with a straight face.
It was going to be a long day already.
