As soon as Aniya pushed open the door she could feel the air inside the room shift. She took a deep breath to calm her racing heart and ignored that little voice in her that was distressed and whimpering. The last thing she wanted to do was turn into a omega before her bosses and embarrass herself.
She didn't really see them before so she automatically assumed that they were some seventy-year oldies looking after the hospital they opened.
Her eyes widened in shock as she looked over at two of them sitting in front of her with the head thrown back. Two most attractive men. She couldn't believe the way she immediately cowered against the wall. The skin between her shoulder and neck felt as if it was on fire and she wanted to reach out and scratch the skin. It was burning and that voice inside her was screeching for a way to get relief and it was so alien but also familiar.
Aniya curled her fingers tightly as she felt the insides of her stomach felt like they were burning and toes curled around as she stumbled back and rested her back against the wall. The omega wasn't aware of what was happening to her but the growls from the Alpha's was enough for her to cower back in fear.
She whimpered as the cold surface of the wall touched her burning behind, the contrast causing the hair on her hand and neck to rise. Shivers ran down her spine as she raised her head and looked forward. Two piercing sets of grey stared back at her and it took everything in her to not bend down.
"Mate" They growled together to which she couldn't hold back but whine at the tone that was so deep and intimidating. She clenched her fists by her sides, realization dawning on her. They found her.
She wanted to bolt away, never turn around and face them because she was scared. She never desired for mates but seeing the two very bulky and strong Alphas in front of them, their eyes boring into her skin it was making her anxious. She hated the very existence of them and their family. Their pack.
"Please... Take a seat," A taller one of them said clearing his throat as if his trance was broken but from his eyes, she could tell that he was clearly trying to hold back his Alpha from claiming her.
"I am Evan Romano and this is my twin brother, Erik," He said as she moved few steps towards him. Aniya, for some strange reason, felt like she could trust them to not pounce on her. Maybe it was the naive omega in her.
She shouldn't because there already have been too many Alphas, especially the one who find mates, turning savages cases in her town. She should be scared to even approach her mates but didn't let that show on her face. Years of practice made her that way.
"Hi... Uh... Yeah... I am Aniya. Aniya Martin." She felt flush on her cheek. Her omega wasn't cooperating with her at all and was jumping in joy at the thought of finding her mate but she was trying hard to not let that show.
"The new pediatrician, right?" The other one, Erik spoke and she immediately looked at him and noticed that his stare was already fixed on her. She felt her breath hitch a bit at that and simply nodded her head.
"It's your first day Dr. Martin?" Evan questioned while adjusting himself in his seat. She could see that he was trying very hard to keep it professional.
"Yes, Dr. Romano." A crack in her voice made Evan narrow his eyes at her but he didn't say anything just gave her a curt nod in return.
"I can't believe you are our omega. Crazy!" Erik said loudly to which she flinched and felt hurt inside her at the fact that maybe they were expecting someone better than she and she couldn't mask it.
"Erik!" Evan yelled at his brother and from the corner of her eyes, she could see that he just shrugged in response not caring that she might see him.
"I wasn't trying to be rude. I'm just shocked that we found our mate in the very place we work in." He explained as if that was somehow supposed to make her feel happy.
She already didn't want to be their mate. They were making it very easy for her but she didn't want to be the one to initiate that they break the bond. She could be easily fired and this was all she had. One shot. A gamble of her life.
"I apologize on behalf of my brother. I'm sure that didn't come across rude"
"That's fine. I mean this is a shock for me as well considering I don't want mates either." She lightly said trying to show that she was really firm on her decision. But the moment she looked up she saw something flash in Evans eyes but then it was gone immediately and he restored his stoic face and raised his eyebrow.
"Is this your way of saying that we aren't suitable to be your mates?" He questioned, with his voice tight and she felt shivers at his Alpha voice. It vibrated against her ear and it hurt her omega. She noticed that Erik looked flustered and was glaring at his brother.
She wanted to slam her head against the table. Of course, he was one of those Alphas who didn't take it lightly on their pride and couldn't handle rejection. How could she miss? She could feel his eyes on her, patiently waiting for her to answer and she knew that it must have hurt his pride when she uttered those words.
"I didn't say that. Don't twist my words, Dr. Romano." She said instead. Great. Aniya really wanted to have a brain to mouth filter.
"Wow. I like you already" Erik said amused and she really wanted to give him a look. What was going on? One was impressed with her while the other wanted to murder her probably. Or was already planning her murder in his head.
"If this is how you talk to Alphas Dr. Martin then no wonder you don't want them to tell you when to shut up." He snippely said to which she glared at him. Was he already trying to control her? Unbelievable. The way she wanted to pick that glass of water and throw on his face, it was really intense.
"Wow you must be fun at parties Dr. Romano considering your respect for omegas" She sarcastically snorted unable to hold back. Really it was itching her.
Evan chuckled, no humor whatsoever in his voice and shook his head. She eyed him when she heard a sharp intake of breath from beside her and noticed that Erik was staring at her with a grin on his face.
"He is definitely not fun at parties. You should see him in one."
She wanted to laugh at how Erik was trying to lighten the mood but Evan should be the one to calm down and handle a joke and not twist her words maybe.
"All this impatience and anger from you is making me question your professionalism, Dr. Martin? Are you always like this with your patients as well?" Evan poked and from the way she clenched her fists and a grin pulled at the corner of his lips she knew that he hit a nerve and he knew it too. She didn't take it lightly when others make fun of her profession because that's the only thing in her life she is so passionate about what she left everything behind and started over.
She took a deep breath, "Don't you dare question my professionalism. I am an excellent doctor and I sure don't need to prove it to you."
"Haha, that's funny Dr. Martin considering I am your boss and it would definitely do you good if you prove that to me. Don't you think?" He said in an innocent tone.
"Evan stop it" Erik nudged his elbow against his brother she could see that he was clearly uncomfortable with the way the conversation was headed. She was really angry because she couldn't believe that her mate thought so low of her and made her feel this way.
She couldn't get any longer she stood up from her seat, "yeah well I will let my work speak to you then."
"Really nice meeting you Dr. Martin" Erik smiled and stood up from his seat and forwarded his hand. She shook it and gave him a polite smile.
"I am sorry I wish I could say the same" She felt joy when she noticed that Evan's mouth twitched and he glared at her but she didn't wait for his response. Just stormed out of there.
For her first day at the hospital, it went well.
