Chapter six.
Vida’s POV.
His hands landed on my skin with a suddenness that left me reeling, my body recoiling as if from a burn. My heart raced, my breath quickening in a desperate attempt to calm the trembling that threatened to overtake me.
“What's wrong?” he asked, his voice a low purr that seemed to echo through my bones. “Cat got your tongue?” And I shook my head indicating NO!
At this point, I wished I had supernatural powers. I won't be here speaking to him. “Lord, Are you happy with my life?” I mumbled under my breath.
“Did you say anything?” He asked, his voice low and dangerous.
“No,” was the curt response I could give.
“Better,” Kaden said, with a sly smile.
My gaze darted around the room, searching for an escape, an answer, anything to defuse the tension that had grown so thick I could taste it.
“You have not replied to my message, what the heck are you doing here litten kitten?” He asked, folding his arms.
That nickname was like a persistent itch I couldn't scratch. It irritated me to no end, a constant reminder of my lack of supernatural abilities. And the fact that everyone at school knew about it made it even worse.
It felt like I couldn't escape the mockery and the taunting, no matter how hard I tried. I just wished he would stop calling me “little Kitten.” It was so frustrating!
“Hello little kitten!” He called out, snapping his fingers at my face, jolting me away from my trance. “I asked you a question if I can remember,” he added.
I was seething inside, boiling with anger and frustration. I wanted to yell at the top of my lungs, to make the man realize that this was my room, and that I was not some pushover he could just walk all over.
But I knew better. I didn't have the supernatural powers or the social clout to back me up. So, I had to swallow my anger and bite my tongue, even though every fiber of my being wanted to scream at him to leave me alone. It was suffocating, this feeling of helplessness.
“I…. I … .uhm…this…is…my…room,” I stutter as I could feel sweat forming on my forehead.
“What!” The other twin who had been quiet all this while finally spoke coming down from the bed. “How’s this possible?” He asked.
The silence hung in the air like a thick fog, suffocating and oppressive. My eyes dropped to the floor, seeking refuge in the coolness of the tiles, the intricate pattern a welcome distraction. I have never seen these faces before in this school, I mean this is my last year, so obviously I knew everyone here. And the last time I checked, SCRIBES ROYAL SCHOOL FOR SUPERNATURAL POWERS doesn't accept students during this period.
“Young lady,” one of them spoke, his voice a low murmur that vibrated through the room. “Are you sure this is the right room?”
I could feel his gaze on me, as if he were stripping away my layers, peeling back the defenses I had erected. And I gave him a nod.
“Kaden check if we are in the appropriate room,” he said, his voice calm and his gaze fixed on me.
“Yes bro,” Kaden replied, and then I heard footsteps. The other twin gaze lingered on me and I felt uncomfortable. I moved my gaze, playing with the tips of my hair to hide my nervousness.
“Oh my! I think there’s a miss up,” I heard Kaden’s voice as he stood beside his brother passing him a paper.
“How the f**k is this possible?” The other twin growled and I flinched a little.
“I don’t know, there’s no way we would share the room with this little Kitten,” Kaden mumbled.
Kaden's words cut like a knife, his dismissal of me like a dismissal of my very existence. I wanted to shout at him, to remind him that I wasn't any little kitten. I was a person, with a name and feelings and dreams, and I deserved to be respected as such.
But I knew better than to open my mouth. I didn't have the supernatural powers or the social standing to defend myself. So, I swallowed my anger, my eyes darting between Kaden and his quiet twin as I tried to gauge their next move.
“How is this possible? This is also our room.” He said, looking at Kaden with an expression that demands explanation from Kaden.
“Hey, Why the look? I did not do anything,” Kaden defended himself.
“If you have taken your time to do your research we won’t be in this mess,” He argued and Kaden scoffed.
“How am I supposed to know this is also a little kitten room,” he said with a hiss and his brother groaned rubbing the back of his hair. His gaze shifted towards me and I moved my gaze staring at nowhere in particular, hoping he won’t speak to me.
“She can't stay here. I need to call the attention of the school authority.” The other twin said, leaving.
I just stood watching the drama like I wasn't the one they were referring to.
“You shouldn't be standing there. We are all going together.” He said in a firm voice. I quickly adjusted my clothes and began moving my feet.
In no time, we were standing at the office of the staff that had earlier assigned me to the room. The angry twin took him to one corner of the room, explaining things to him in a hush tone. But from his expression I could tell this wasn't ending in a good tone from tjr angry twin side. I tried stretching my ears, so I can hear them a little.
“What do you mean you are sorry nothing can be done now?” The other twin said in a hush tone, but I could sense the anger.
“I’m sorry you need to understand, besides you all won't stay forever just for the meantime. Until we can come up with a place for her.” The man responded, rolling his eyes, clearly frustrated with the twins rants. “If you don't mind, guys, I have an important meeting to attend to.” He said, but I knew this was just his own way of dismissing us.
The twin looked at him for some seconds clenching his fist. Before leaving the room in annoyance. I still can't wrap my head around why he is so mad.
We stepped out of the office, and we saw some students standing there. Their eyes were filled with disgust, I ignored them trying to keep up my steps with the twins.
“She has caused trouble again, in her first class.” One of the students said.
“I’m actually not surprised I expected more from her. Everything about her brew troubles.” Another chimed in.
I tried taking my mind off what they were saying. I would rather not be hurt further, but it was impossible, it felt like they were talking inside my head.
We got to the room and the angry twin slammed the door behind us.
“Chill Kieran is none of us fault,” Kaden said trying to calm him down.
“Kieran,” I repeated his name under my breath. His name was nice and I loved it.
“Don’t cross my path,” he said to me, his voice high and firm. I gave him a nod and moved to my bag. Kaden and Kieran got into an argument, but their voices were low. I strained my ears to hear what they were saying, but I couldn’t. I let out a low hiss if only I had powers.
Suddenly, Kieran stood up, and I followed him with my gaze, and then he switched off the light. f**k! I’m dead. I don’t know how to sleep in darkness. I held my bedsheet tight, and I dragged my feet to my bed. I mistakenly hit something hard.
“Are you blind?” Kieran growled and I held my breath.
This night was going to be a long one.
