Chapter 13

“How did that meeting go?” my mother asked, as my stepfather sat beside my uncle. My stepfather sighed, then said, “Well, I have my job back.” “That’s great. The king always valued your opinion, so why are you sighing?” my grandmother asked. “Because after I told him everything we told you, he said he wanted to throw a party in our honor tonight,” my stepfather said. “A party at the palace, I am so there. I need an outfit. Can you take me to one of those stores? I don’t really like your outfits here, but I might find something I like. Also, what kind of money do you take?” Hana asked, and I just shook my head. “Ignore her. I’ll take you shopping later, continue Aioki,” my mother said. “I told him we didn’t need a party because there was too much to do, but he insisted, so we have to go to the palace tonight,” my stepfather said. “I’m sorry what’s so bad about this? I get to see my future husband,” Hana said about the prince. “Hana, you’re too young to be talking about marriage. Even in the human world, I wouldn’t let you marry this young. Aioki, what else did the king say?” my mother said. “Nothing much really. The kids will be starting school tomorrow, and I’m sure you will be going back to the healing tents,” my stepfather said. “Of course. My mother told me yesterday about a war that is about to break out against our neighboring kingdom?” my mother said, which was news to me. “Not anymore. The king ordered one of the generals to handle it. It should be over soon, so that’s good news. I also ran into Cameron Bryant,” my stepfather said. “Oh your friend, right?” my stepmother asked. “Yes. Apparently, he has a son, Hana, and Hiro’s age, and the king wants us to introduce them. Which isn’t a problem. Cameron and I go way back, so I’m sure our kids will get along just fine,” my stepfather said. “OK, that sounds like a very productive meeting. Is there anything else?” My mother asked. “Wait, I have a question. If we are all going to be out tomorrow, what about Kayla? Can she enroll in magic school too?” Hana asked. “No, because she’s human, she’s not allowed on the grounds. Technically speaking, she shouldn’t even be here, but given that she’s family, she is permitted here. But you are correct we have work tomorrow and I don’t want you to be bored,” my aunt Lola said. “No need to worry, the queen wants Kayla to come to the palace starting tomorrow, she wants her help planning the princess’s birthday party,” my stepfather said. “Really?” I asked, excited to see the queen again. I really liked her and there was something about her that just made me feel safe. Maybe that was her magic? “Yes Kayla, apparently you left a good impression on her,” my stepfather said. “That is amazing, tell us you agreed,” my grandmother said. “Of course I did. She also knew that all of us would be busy and didn’t want Kayla to be bored in the house all day.” My stepfather said. “I will thank her tonight,” my mother said, while Hana just pouted. “What?” I asked, already knowing what she was thinking. “It’s so unfair. You get to go to the palace with that gorgeous specimen, while I’m stuck going to Hogwarts with Harry Potter,” Hana said, with an attitude, and my stepfather, Hiro, my mom, and I laughed, while everyone else looked on confused. “You get to see Harry Potter?” Gab asked innocently. “I’m sorry I didn’t understand anything she said?” my grandfather said, baffled. “It’s fine. Anyways, we should go shopping for the party tonight at the palace,” my mother said. Hana hopped up and said, “Vamanos!” “You have issues,” Gab said, and we all started laughing. “What if I can’t go to the palace like Kayla, I should at least look my best tonight for him,” Hana said then started towards the door. I stood, then followed after her, “Which one do you even like?” I asked. “The one with the silver eyes,” she said. “You do know that boy is a hoe, right? If not a hoe, then definitely a player,” I said, as we made our way to the car. We were the only ones outside, everyone else was still in the house. “Of course, I know. Please, I’m not stupid. I just love looking at him. You've got to admit that man is gorgeous. Who has silver eyes?” She said. “Yes, he is, that whole family is beautiful. I’m just curious as to what the princess looks like,” I said, only because she was the only one who wasn’t present the other night. “I don’t care. Just know that in 20 years I’ll be a princess,” she said, and I laughed. “OK Princess Hana,” I teased. “Let’s go, and no we are not taking the SUV. Mateo can you fix it for me?” I heard my mother say from behind me. I then turned around and saw everyone standing outside the house. “Sure thing, sis. You can take my ride unless you want to fly?” my uncle said. “Of course, I do, but none of my children can, so we will take your ride until they can,” my mother said. And with that, he led us to a funny-looking van that reminded me of Scooby-Doo before walking back towards the house. “Mom, what is that?” Hana asked, appalled. “Our ride, get in,” my mother ordered. Hana sighed, and then she, Hiro, and I got in the car with Hiro riding shotgun. My stepfather decided to stay behind and trusted my mother to find him an outfit. “Buckle up,” my mother said, and with that, we flew away. “Ok that was cool,” Hana said, as we got out of the car.
