The silence in the car was unbearable, the tension so thick that one could cut through it with a blunt knife. Since awakening that morning, Hazel had neither spoken nor glanced Lenora’s way. Any attempts by the grey-eyed woman to get close caused Hazel to either coil back or freeze up. Petrified wasn't enough to describe the state in which Hazel was in. “Hazel, talk to me,” Lenora uttered patiently to the still silent woman. The sharp sense of fear rolling off of Hazel was stifling, causing the vampire’s being to be on edge. Lenora’s eyes wandered between Hazel and the road, not wanting to miss any shifts from the pregnant woman.
