Beaten and broken Hazel lays in a pool of her own blood. The kicks and the insults raining down on her, unrelenting. She closes her eyes unwilling to accept the hand fate was dealing her. She couldn’t die this away or at least not now. A prayer pushes past her lips, her words directed to any deity above and below to come to her rescue. She needed to be alive for her baby’s sake. Just as the lasts strings of her hope start to break she sees something.
Her protector.
Everything is blur, the movements lighting fast before her baffled eyes. Gut-wrenching screams rent the air but Hazel’s heart remains at peace amid the chaos. Her prayers had been answered. She was safe. Her family had been saved and the thought of this follows her into her unconscious state.
