Chapter 15
“Are you sure this is what you want?” Eugenio asked, holding Carlos from behind.
“Yes, more than anything.”
“And you are sure you never did this before?”
“No, we weren’t allowed to.” Carlos and Eugenio were on the outskirts of the ranch. One of the sections had broken off the fence, and they were there to fix it. Carlos had told Eugenio he wanted to learn everything there was about the ranch, including the upkeep.
“We helped out with some of the stuff, like feeding the horses and such, but we weren’t supposed to get in the way of the workers until we were about sixteen. That’s when I came out. After that, things like that kind of stopped being presented to me.”
