The rains that had pounded the land for the past few days had made the dirt roads incredibly muddy. Though Eugenio’s truck was equipped to handle most situations, this one was a bit too much to handle on their own.
“I don’t mind walking if you don’t.” Carlos replied. His mind was still on what had happened at the creek, and he figured the walk may give him time to assess the situation. He wanted to tell Eugenio, but he was also afraid of Beto finding out. He didn’t think Eugenio would ever betray him, but sometimes people acted out of worry. Eugenio might panic and run to Beto out of fear for Carlos. That was why Carlos felt it was better to be safe than sorry.
