THE STRANGER IN THE BARN

(LOUIS’S POV) Everything had happened so fast. I had come in to check on the goats when I saw attractive and shiny blonde hair. It belonged to a young girl and she was standing on top of a bucket. She had her back turned to me so I did not see her facw. I should have not gone so close because maybe then she would have landed on the ground alone instead of using me as a landing. “Eew! What is that smell! Where is my phone?” She said and she got up quickly as I got up to and reached for my hat. “Who are you?” I asked her angrily But then she started to panic about her phone and she searched the hay with her back turned to me without even giving me a direct look. “Who are you?” I asked her as I looked down at her. But she did not care to look up at me, she was searching for her phone. “Don’t just stand there. Check for my phone!” She said as she continued with her head bent over the ground of hay. Then I heard her mutter to herself. “Are these the workers they have here? Ones who stink and make you fall and ask stupid questions?” She said to herself I froze. Did she just call me a worker? And she said I smelled. Who was this horrible person. She sighed deeply and I realized that she had gotten her phone. She gathered herself to her feet and turned around then. “Now you! Have you no manners at all? I could have been hurt or my phone could have been broken!” She said facing me with folded arms and an intent face. Seeing her face clearly for the first time since I got to the barn, it took a moment for me to get to my senses as I was struck by how beautiful this lady looked. She was so pretty that she looked unreal. Glassy looking blue eyes, a slim pointed nose, rosy cheeks, a cute mouth all on an apple shaped face. Her skin was creamy and it looked so smooth that I wandered what it would feel like to touch it. Her beautiful hair now had hay in it and she was shrieking as she tried her best to take it out. And then I stepped back. Oh no! It was her! The strange girl from the outskirts bar. The great dancer, the beautiful woman. The one who I had slept with. The one who I noticed was a virgin when I woke up to blood stained sheets. “What the hell!” She said as her eyes widened in recognition as she took in her appearance. “Are you following me?” She shrieked at me. “Following you? Are you following me?” I asked back. Last time I saw her, she was sleeping with the sheets pulled over her and I dropped her a note. And now here she was! And in my own space ? You have got to be kidding me. The blonde lady’s face turned red in embarrassment and she ran out of the barn. While I just stood there for a moment trying to figure out what had just happened. “f**k! How did she know where to find me?” I said to myself I walked out of the barn and hurried to talk to the other workers who told me that Liam had returned. Feeling like there must be some connection, I went to meet him. Just as I was making my entrance in to the house, someone slapped my shoulder playfully. I turned around to see him. “What’s going on?” I asked him. He grunted and laughed. “Well is this how you say hello to your older brother?” He said to me. I narrowed my eyes. “Come on Louis, pretend you’re happy to see me.” Liam said to me. “I hate pretending.” I said but we exchanged a deeper handshake. Liam put an arm around me as he led me inside the house. Of course I was happy to see him, but Liam knows me very well and he is used to my lack of enthusiasm and my blue mood. Asides from the resemblance we shared with our brown hair and eyes, muscular body and with Liam looking slightly older, we had nothing else in common. My brother is cheerful and playful, you would think he was the younger one with the way he acted. I am more serious and way less playful. “Are you going to tell me or what?” I asked him folding my arms once we got to the kitchen and he started to pour himself a glass of water. “You are like some spirit.” Liam said to me. Of course I knew that there was something going in, I just was not sure of what it was. “I’m married.” Liam announced to me. “What? You got married to the city girl?” I asked him. Liam had traveled for some work in New York a year ago and ever since then, he would not talk about anything other than this Jenna lady. “She is a woman.” Liam corrected and then with a smile, he pushed open the inner door of the kitchen. “I want you to meet her now.” And then he disappeared inside for a few seconds and came out with a very beautiful young woman. She had shiny blonde hair and glassy blue eyes. And that was when it hit me! She looked very much like the lady I just met at the barn. The one I had the one night stand with. No way, she was her sister? “Louis I will like you to meet Jenna, my new wife.” He said smiling proudly. Jenna took my hand for a warm handshake. “Oh! It’s so lovely to meet you Louis. Liam has told me so much about you.” She said softly. “It’s nice to meet you too.” I said trying my best to keep my focus on the conversation but I could not stop comparing the two women in my head. They looked freakishly alike. “So, are you visiting from New York or?” I asked with a dry chuckle to prevent the question from sounding rude. “Actually, Jenna is going to be staying here now. She moved from New York to be with me.” Liam said looking at Jenna with love in his eyes. “She and her daughter, Lyn will be here now.” He said still looking at his wife lovingly. The last words caught me by surprise. “Daughter? Did you just say daughter?” I asked stammering. There was no way that she was the one. No way it could be… “Yes! Jenna has a daughter. Marilyn, a young woman.” He said and then he stretched his head as if looking out for her. “I wonder if she has come back from her search for network bars.” Her search for network bars? Oh no! f**k! I’m screwed! She was definitely the one!
