THE BETRAYAL AND A FRESH ROUGH START
(THIRD PERSON’S POV)
The worst day of Marilyn’s life was the day her mother announced her marriage to Liam and their plans to move from New York City to a ranch in a small town in Texas. Marilyn could not believe her ears.
“Tell me you’re joking. A ranch? In Texas? Why??,” she pleaded but the apologetic look in her mother’s eyes showed that she was not joking .
“He makes me happy Lyn. You know that.” Her mother begged. “And I know how hard it will be for you to…”
“My whole life is here! Chris! Andrea! My friends.” Marilyn lamented.
She could not believe her mother was considering leaving their home, where they have been all their lives. And all because of Liam Who she had only known for two years.
Marilyn was a sweet girl and she loved her mother very much. She did not like that some stranger was coming to change things.
“I won’t leave.” She said in a cracked voice and with that, she went out of the house ignoring her mother’s calls with no idea that her day was about to get even worse than she had ever imagined .
In tears, Marilyn called her best friend, Andrea but she got no reply and she called Chris who was her boyfriend too but still she got no reply. She decided to go to see him at his house. Chris lived alone in his own apartment and Marilyn was happy that she had somewhere to go. But when she got to Chris’s house, she heard moaning coming from inside. Her heart raced and shakily she made her way to the room where she was faced with the biggest shock of her life. Her own boyfriend and best friend were having s*x.
Marilyn screamed and she felt like her whole world was shattered.
“Lyn…” Chris said looking shocked that he had been caught.
But Andrea had a pleased smirk on her face.
“Hello Virgin!” She said in a mocking tone to Lyn.
Lyn staggered and then after one hard and hurt look at them, she ran out with tears streaming down her eyes. She went back home and locked herself up in her room. She did not come out until the next day and when she did, she reluctantly agreed to move to Texas with her mother and new step father. She did not have a choice anyway.
*ONE MONTH LATER*
(MARILYN’S POV)
“So what do you think, Lyn?” Mum asked me.
We were getting settled in this rented apartment that Liam had paid for us to spend the night before continuing the Journey the next morning .
“I hate it!” I said angrily with a stoned face.
Embarrassed by my response, mum gave a nervous and false smile as she turned to Liam who in turn gave a kind smile.
“Um….. Lyn, this is not where our new home is, we are just stopping here because it’s late and we still have an hour and half before we get to our destination .” She said trying to soften me up.
“Well I hate it!.” I repeated angrier. I turned to mum “I hate it! I hate you!” I turned to Liam. “And I most definitely hate you!”
“Lyn! Stop this right now!” Mum scolded me with her eyes wide open.
“You ruined my life by bringing me to this place!” I said back at her.
I could not control the tears that started to stream down my cheeks. It was like being here made me realize that mum and I are really not going to live in New York City again.
“Lyn, please if you could just calm down..” Liam was trying to say to me.
“And it’s all because of you!” I said turning to him. “You came and brought us to this place! I wish you never came in to our lives!”
“Marilyn!” Mum said very angry at me.
There was a moment of silence. I don’t have a habit of talking back to my mum in such a manner. But I was so overwhelmed with emotions and I was angry with mum for bringing us here. We had our own perfect lives in New York and now she let Liam bring us to some town in Texas.
But if I was being honest, that was not the main reason why I was so stirred up. I still had not gotten over the betrayal of my long time boyfriend and best friend together. I was in a very low mood and relocating to this town seemed to make me feel worse
I did not want to be around Mum or Liam for now .
“You know what? I saw a diner ahead, I want to go there to clear my head. please don’t stay up. I’ll be back when you’re asleep.” I said and with that I reached for my jacket ready to leave for fresh air .
“Lyn please don’t …” mum started saying after me.
“I don’t want to stay here now.” I yelled angrily
“Maybe she just needs a walk. Don’t worry, this part of the town is really safe.” Liam said as he held mum’s hand in support.
I gave them one hard look, hissed at them and banged the door hard behind me as I left. As I walked down the unfamiliar I cried to myself but then I stumbled in to what I thought was the diner but was actually a bar.
Shrugging to myself, I got a seat and ordered a few drinks to myself. The bar was lively with a number of men and women drinking, chatting, singing and dancing to country music. I had some drinks and When I started to become tipsy, I started feeling the music in my head and body. With the alcohol controlling and leading me on, I started to dance along to the music even to the extent of getting on to the table.
The people around me applauded and I gave them a bow before getting off. But as I staggered back to my seat to finish off my drinks, some man walked towards me.
“Hey sweet thing.” He said coming close to me. He put an arm around me and I pushed him back.
“Please don’t touch me.” I said with a slur at the end of my sentence that reminded me I was drunk.
The man laughed. “You’re drunk honey. You don’t know what you want, I do and I can give it to you.” He said coming forward.
“Please I want you to stay away from me.” I said feeling a bit scared because I knew that I had less control .
But the man now tried to push himself on me as he wrapped his arms forcefully around me.
I was trying to push him back when all of a sudden, he was pulled back and thrown to the ground by someone else.
“She said you should leave her alone.” Another man said as he stood fuming angrily at the man who had tried to forcefully grab me.
The man who saved me was wearing a cow boy hat and when he turned around to look at me, it felt like all the oxygen had been knocked out of my body. I was looking at the most beautiful man I had ever laid eyes on in my life.
