Chapter Eight •BRIANNA• After some minutes, I got to Mr. Adrian’s office, and I knocked on the door for the umpteenth time that day. I heard his deep voice tell me to come in, and I walked inside. I strolled to his desk and dropped the cup of latte in front of him. He stopped what he was doing and lifted his eyebrow in a questioning manner before his eyes drifted to the cup of steaming hot coffee. He scrunched his nose in disgust before asking, “What the hell is this?” “Your coffee as you requested, sir,” I replied with a big smile on my face. “I hate lattes, don’t you know that? It was clearly stated in the notebook given to you that I hate any coffee with milk, latte included. In fact, it was written in that notebook that I only drink black coffee with no milk and sugar.” He rambled, and the smile on my face faltered. “Did you even go through the notebook at all?” “Sir, I will not lie to you… I didn’t go through the notebook. Because of the adrenaline rush I got from getting the job, I completely forgot about it.” I spoke up, deciding to come clean. I might get a point for honesty… or not. “Well, I appreciate the fact that you did not lie about going through it, but you should have. You only had one job, and that was to check out the content of the book and know everything you needed to know about me and my schedule. Make sure you do that, alright?” “I will, sir,” I said and bobbed my head in response. “Good. You better do that, or you stand a risk of losing this job of yours.” He warned. “Yes, sir,” I replied. “What should I do about the latte? Will you drink this one now, and I will start getting black coffee for you from tomorrow?” “Oh, hell no! I will not drink that crap.” He yelled, and I stared at him in confusion. “What should I do then?” I quizzed. “Trash it and get me a cup of black coffee.” “Oh, okay. I will do that.” I mumbled, standing before his desk, waiting for him to give me money. “What are you still doing here?” He questioned, looking at me like I was an i***t. “Erm… You are yet to give me the money I am supposed to use to get the coffee,” I spluttered. “Oh, right,” He mumbled and took out his wallet. He took out a few dollar bills and handed them out to me. I collected it from him, and I saw that the money was more than I needed to buy the coffee. I stared at him with a puzzled look on my face. As if seeing the questioning look on my face, he responded, “Get a new coffee with it, take out the money you used to get the latte and keep the change.” “Oh. Thank you, sir.” I appreciated. “Yeah, whatever.” He uttered nonchalantly, “Now get out of here and go get me my coffee.” He stopped me before I stepped out of his office. “Take this damn coffee out of my sight; the mere smell of it is irritating the hell out of me.” I picked up the cup of latte and walked out of his office. Once I was out, I downed the content in one gulp and trashed the paper cup. I took the elevator to the first floor. I made my way out of the company once again. I got to the cafe in no time, and I met Tatiana still behind the counter. Her beautiful smile was still on her face, and I wondered if she would stop smiling. “What would you like to have again, young lady?” Tatiana asked. “I would like to have a cup of black coffee, please,” I replied. “Do you want it plain? Or with sugar and milk?” She quizzed, and I thought about it for a minute before remembering that Mr. Adrian said that he liked his coffee without sugar and milk. “Plain, please,” I stated, and she bobbed her head before disappearing into the kitchen. The coffee was ready in a few minutes, and she handed it to me. “That will be two dollars.” “Okay…” I trailed off as I put my hand into my pocket and brought out a five-dollar bill. She gave me my change, and I smiled at her before leaving the cafe. “I thought you got the coffee the other time?” Kristen asked with a confused expression on her face as I got to the reception. “Yeah, but it turned out that I got the wrong coffee,” I replied with a sigh. I entered the elevator, and I arrived at the boss’s office within a few minutes. I approached his desk and dropped the cup of black coffee on it. He picked it up, brought it to his mouth, and took a sip. The frown on his face dissolved into a small smile, and I blew out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. “Now, this is what I call a good coffee. That wasn’t so hard, right?.” He uttered as he continued drinking his coffee. “Yes, sir,” I said, not knowing what else to say. “So, what’s on my schedule for today?” He asked casually after throwing the paper cup into the trash can. “Erm… Hold on a minute, sir, while I get your schedule plan from my office,” I said as I rushed out. I saw a scowl appear on his face, but I pretended like I didn’t see it. I got to my office and took the notepad where his schedule plan for today was written before returning to his office and reading it to him. “You have a meeting with the production department to discuss the new product that we want to manufacture; the meeting is taking place by 10:30 a.m. After that, you have another meeting by 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Charles to finalise a deal over lunch. Those are the only things in store for you today, sir.” I read out. “Okay then.” He nodded his head. “There’s this particular file I need for the meeting I will have with the production department in the next forty-five minutes, and I forgot it at home. I need you to go get it for me.” “Oh… This might sound disrespectful and unprofessional, but can’t you send your driver to get it for you?” I asked, and he looked at me like I grew a second head. “I sent my driver on an errand, and besides, you don’t have any right to question my order. If I can’t send you to get something for me, then what is your usefulness to me as my assistant?” He scoffed. I sighed in defeat because I knew he was right. He was my boss, and he had the authority to send me on errands; I didn’t even know why I questioned him. “Okay, sir, I’ll get it for you. But I don’t know where your house is located,” I muttered loud enough for him to hear. “Don’t worry about that…” He trailed off and picked up his pen. He scribbled something on a piece of paper before handing it to me. “That is my address. When you get there, ring the doorbell, and the gatekeeper will meet you at the gate. He’s going to ask what you are doing there, so tell him I sent you to come and get something for me.” “Noted, sir. But I need money for the transport fare if your driver isn’t here to drive me and I have to take a cab because I can’t possibly trek to this address, and I’m pretty sure the place we’re talking about is a little far from here.” I complained. “Stop with that complaint of yours. This is the money for the transport fare.” He said in annoyance, picked up his wallet from earlier, and withdrew a couple of dollars. He threw the money towards me, and it scattered across the floor. I sighed in frustration, then bent down to gather the funds. “Well, I’ll be on my way, Mr. Adrian,” I stated politely. “Be fast with it; there’s only less than thirty-five minutes left before the meeting begins, and that file is crucial for this meeting.” he responded, “Now run along and don’t come back without that file.” The naughty sparkle in his eyes should have warned me that leaving his office was not a good idea. I should have stood my ground and tried to argue with him. As I headed towards the door to leave, I saw a smirk appear on his face, and if not for how ignorant I was, I should have stayed back.
